Sick and not in a good way
Hey everybody... I know a lot of you have been wondering where I've been.
It all started about a week before Thanksgiving. I wasn't feeling 100%-- I had a bad cold, and a somewhat sore throat. Since I no longer have medical insurance, though, I didn't see a doctor even though the symptoms persisted despite drinking about a bottle of NyQuil every two or three days.
About two weeks ago, Thanksgiving week, it got pretty bad. Paul, my roommate, insisted that Tuesday that I go and see a doctor but I refused. He left to visit family the day before Thanksgiving, so I was all by myself. I pretty much slept all the time, though I did try to get online a few times to post in the forum and return e-mails and such. I got pretty disgusting though-- I was so sick I didn't feel like showering, and basically I just stayed in bed from Thanksgiving until the following Saturday!
Paul got home that Sunday morning, and freaked out when he saw me. I had a fever, my teeth were chattering, and apparently I was saying some weird stuff (I was asleep and he was waking me up, so I was probably in some sort of weird dream). Anyway, when I got fully awake he insisted on bringing me to the hospital. I felt too weak and tired and sick to argue.
So, turns out I had pneumonia. I spent two days in the hospital, mostly because I was dehydrated (I fucking hate needles by the way, and I had an IV in my arm most of the time... shudder). They put me on antibiotics and gave me an inhaler to help me breathe, then realeased me last Tuesday at around noon.
I started feeling better by last Thursday, and I feel abou 90% now, but I still feel sort of weak and lethargic. I do not look forward to the bill I'll be getting for all this, by the way. Argh!!!
Now that I'm better, I will be around more again. Don't expect any huge updates until I get to be 100% though! Thanks everybody!

I wondered what happened to you. I narrowed it down to either you started working at the club and were too busy/tired to post or you were ill. Nice to hear you are feeling better and don't do anything too tough for a bit, ok?

Best of luck with your recovery. Obviously we are all wishing you the best.

Shannon, I'm glad you feel better. Take your time before plunging into anything strenuous, drink lots of liquids and take your vitamin C. I sound like your grandmother, don't I?
I take Ester-C which is non-acidic vitamin C daily. Regular vitamin C upsets my system. The vitamin C is cheap compared to the doctor or hospital.
Like you, I don't have health insurance (what a cruel country we live in where there is no nationalised health care system). My doctor is very understanding when billing. He works to keep me out of the hospital. If you pay something (it doesn't have to be much) on a regular basis, they won't complain.
Take care. When you start feeling horny again, you know you are feeling better. Grin.

Talk with the hospital right now, most have some form of a charity care program that you might qualify for and that would at least cut the bill if not get rid of it. Also if it's a for profit hospital, and I work in the patient business office for one, many are introducing programs to give the same discounts to uninsured as the insurance companies get so check that out too. Good luck and more important feel better.

I hope your feeling better. Pneumonia is not something to be fooled around with lightly you are very very lucky. If Paul had decided to stay with his family longer you could have taken a turn for the worse and could have died. He truly seems to care about you, as do I and a lot of other people. You need to focus all your energy on getting better because I think the world would be diminished if we lost you.

Hey Shannon, hope you feel 100% soon.
Anyway, I hope you don't strip to pay the bill for this hospital visit. With the cold, breezy environment in those strip clubs, you might catch pneumonia.
Hahahaha!

Get well soon
Have missed you

hey shannon, first time to respond in a long time. have been lurking and enjoy your site and slices of your life.
sorry that you came down with pneumonia, it's good that you receive treatment and on the road to recovery. get well soon.
as for the hospital bill, i wouldn't worry about it. in my hospital, about half of the uninsured have outstanding balances. the hospital really do not expect to collect on those payments anyway. as a hospital, they are required to treat people that are ill. the hospital will probably just write the expense off. so don't worry about the bill.
if you came to my hospital, we could probably work out a way for you to repay you bill witout $$. ha ha... just kidding...
anyway, feel better soon. will be looking forward for more stories and adventures.
take care,
loki
I'm always amazed at the health system in the usa, free health care should be a right of all taxpayers
Yeah Pneumonia is not something that's cool to have. I had it last year and was in a situation where i had no medical insurance though it didn't get as bad as yours though so i can sympathize. Hope things get better with you soon and look on the bright side things can only go up from here right?

Aww... get well soon okay?
I'm sick today too, but nowhere near as bad, take good care of yourself!
not to get into a free health care vs. paid health debate... free universal health care sounds great, but free health care cannot exist if lawyers are sueing the hell out of doctors. look at all the adds that's out there asking if you ever took vioxx...
In countries that have free health care, you cannot sue people for stuff like that, you could complain to the goverment and possibly have the doctor barred from practicing if they are found neglgent.
Take your time, girl. We all love you and wIsh you the best.
I'm glad you're feeling better... I've had pneumonia, and it really, REALLY sucked. All i got was an IV, 3 days of light work load, then right back into work 100%. Did i mention how much it sucked? Hey, if you're REALLY short on cash, try a donation thing. You know, avid readers on your site send like $5. Worth a shot huh?
About the donations thingy: It's already there, see the 'Please Donate!' link on the front page. It's also nicely separated into categories so that you know what you're donating for. However, there are a few problems with this - it's broken at the moment (says 'The recipient is currently unable to receive money', probably because Paypal doesn't want to do business with porn sites, and classified this as one), plus it seems nobody ever updates it when payments are sent (at least, the number for an item I donated money to still stays at $0, a month or so later).
Shannon, I really like the 'audio of you reading TTT' idea that's been floating around... You should give it a try!
