Back in June

Just a quick note to let you all know that G and I are getting ready to head out of town for an extra-long holiday weekend, so there'll be no more blog posts until early June.

Everyone have a safe and happy holiday!

"You don't own me, masturbation!"

Wired News has a story about the XXXchurch, a Christian ministry that uses humor to spread their anti-porn message: XXXchurch Wants No More XXX.

While we here at Bedtime Stories Central admire XXXchurch's approach in getting down amongst the sinners, we want to assure you that in no way do we consider good wholesome porn stories and/or masturbation to be in any way sinful. So please, continue to read, and enjoy your body as you see fit!

Oh, we so don't need this

From our friends at the CBLDF comes this news of one of the worst pieces of legislation ever introduced: New Censorship Bill Turns Parents into Prosecutors.

Basically, this bill would allow anyone to sue any person or group that is involved in distributing any material that the suer believes is harmful to minors.

I don't need to tell you all what a colossally bad idea this is, but here is a discussion. Here is another.

Of course, legislation like this isn't really meant to be passed--it's just election year grandstanding. But it still makes my skin crawl.

Worth a Listen

This weekend's edition of Speaking of Faith, a public radio show about religion, featured a program titled: Gay Marriage: Broken or Blessed? - Two Evangelical Views.

I started listening with great trepidation, but it turned out to be a fascinating discussion, one that I highly recommend.

While the two theologians interviewed differed on their final analysis, both acknowledged that the issue of gay marriage is something that required deep and thoughtful discussion, and is not an issue that can be resolved by sound bites.

Too often, the face of evangelical Christianity is that of the so-called "Christian Right," a cabal that has hijacked large segmants of both Christianity and the Republican party. If only the mainstream media would pay less attention to the hate-spilling leaders and their minions, and more to those who actually want to think, discuss, and try to work towards mutual understanding.

Oregon's Secret Wedding Plans

From Time comes the story about how lawmakers in Multnomah County, Oregon, hached a (nearly) secret plan to approve gay marriage: "How Oregon Eloped".

New Look!

Blogger came out with a new version, so I decided that it was time to give this ol' blog a new look. I chose one of their stock templates, which definitely has a 'girly' look to it. What do you think?

Also, now that Blogger supports comments, I'll be using their commenting facilities rather than Enetation's. Alas, this means that the old comments are now lost. But hopefully Blogger commenting will be much more reliable.
