Lesbian Pulps

A couple of Websites devoted to the world of lesbian-themed paperback novels of the 50s and 60s: Women in the Shadows, from the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture at Duke University; and Queer Covers, from the Lesbian Herstory Archives.

For some reason, my local public library doesn't seem to have any of these on the shelves...

Another recommendation

Normally I don't like fan fics, 'celeb' stories, or stories with numerous grammar boo boos. So why did I like Vert Man's The Night I Got My t.A.T.u? Because it's h-o-t, that's why! Coupled with a decidedly great twist on the whole groupies-after-that-concert thing is a sweet story of two best friends who reveal their mutual interest. Worth checking out.

Not my diary

Every so often I stumble across an old story that I somehow never read before, but is right up my alley. "Kelly's Diary: Excerpt #1" by Ellen Hayes is just such a story. It's about two best friends who, after spying on an older sister with her boyfriend, start to wonder what it would be like, which leads to... It's a wonderful story about two girls discovering love and each other. Go read it!

Going on Safari

Apple released Beta 2 of their Safari Web browser today, and we couldn't be happier. Now with tabbed browsing and password remembering, it's a vast improvement on the first public beta. Now all you horny Mac users can download your porn faster than ever before :)

JoyScape

Got notified today that my site has been listed in JoyScape, an adult search engine. They asked for a reciprocal link, and since I haven't written anything else for the blog today, here it is.

On my iTunes

I'm listening to Dressed in Black: A Tribute to Johnny Cash. Because, well, Johnny Cash was and still is cool, and this collection by alt.country artists is darn good. Plus, it's got the first track in several years from Mandy Barnett (a duet with Chuck Mead on "Jackson").

Dykesville!

Learned the other day that there's a town in Wisconsin called "Dykesville." Really. Sounds like a fun place to visit. :)

Courtesy of a page on Dribbleglass I learned of a few more places to book vacations: Dyke, Kentucky; Boob Creek, Alaska; Pussy Creek, Ireland; Sugar Tit, South Carolina.

And, my favorite, Fucking, Austria.

Comix for Chix #2: Dykes to Watch Out For

Cool gay girlz and others in the know are undoubtedly aware of Alison Bechdel's serial comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For, a humorous chronicle of the lives of the lesbian community in a typical American small city. If not, take a quick trip over to PlanetOut where you can read the past 100 or so strips online. Think of it like For Better or For Worse but with lesbians rather than a traditional nuclear family and you wouldn't be too far off.

But if you're just reading the strips, you're only getting part of the story. The DTWOF collected editions contain reprints of the strips in the first half, and in the second half Bechdel gives us a longer form comic story that expands on the storyline in the strips and includes a smattering of gold ol' fashioned R-rated lesbian sex. Alas, it appears that the publisher was having some financial woes and many of the books are currently out-of-print, but it looks like the new owners plan on recitifying that soon, and we can look forward to a new collection later this year (yay!)

On my iTunes

Right now I'm listening to SHeDAISY's Knock on the Sky, girly county-pop by three sisters. What can I say--I think they sing well, the songs have catchy pop hooks, and I think that Kelsi (the redhead) is a total babe!
