Inquiring minds want to know?

The new issue of Discover has an interesting article about controversial science projects and the efforts of some to stop their funding: "Forbidden Science".

As you might expect, most of these studies have to do with sex in some way, shape or form. (Because heaven forbid we learn anything about sex!) One of the most interesting to me is the Northwesternstudy about the diffent responses to visual stimuli between men and women:

"The relationship between physiological arousal and sexual function is complicated. The results also offer important information to psychotherapists whose clients are struggling with sexual issues. 'Because we have a male model of sexuality, women who don’t fit that model feel they’re different or weird,' says University of Utah psychologist Lisa Diamond. The new findings may help clinicians whose female patients are confused by their erotic reactions to the 'wrong' sex, for example."

More Colleen

The Daily Iowan was an article on our favorite girly porno cartoonist, Colleen Coover: "Redrawing Eros".

Colleen's mission for her comic is remarkably similar to my own for my writing, especially my Walnut Grove stories:

"...all the characters would be women, it would be accessible to lesbians as well as bisexuals, and all the sexual content would be happy, without unwanted guilt, disease, or pregnancy... [They] are able to explore all sorts of fantasies without being treated like whores, and they enjoy the company of women without social taboo."

Who's Gay on the Tube?

From The Boston Globe earlier this month comes this interesting story: "Sexual identity getting difficult to keep straight"

I for one find it amusing that so many people--both straight and gay--can't seem to wrap their minds around the concept of people with fluctuating sexuality.

Bonus: Reports are circulating that The L Word will be out on DVD on November 9th! The big question is whether or not I'll be able to wait to get it as a X-mas gift...

We're Back

We're back from vacation unscathed. The problem with vacations, of course, is that there's always a ton of work piled up when you get back. So, regular blogging (okay, irregular blogging) won't resume until probably this weekend.

In the meantime, why not use the comments link below to let me know what you did over the holiday?

Off on Vacation

G and I are taking off on a long holiday weekend (visiting her family back east). So this blog will be silent until sometime next week.

In the meanwhile, everyone have a safe and enjoyable holiday!
