An anonymous person sent me a feedback today on Alandra from here, asking about Fatima. I got through typing the entire reply before realizing I was responding to an email with no return address... :)

Hello;

Thanks for writing me. I'm glad you like the story. I love hearing from people over it.

Orginally when I started thinking "I want to write an NiS story" back in 2002 the character for it was Fatima. But then I realized I don't know enough about Islam to do it justice, and under the current administration in the USA I'm not willing to go check out the books at the library that will put me on the wrong watch list...

As I have learned a little about the faith since then, I know that I know too little to do it right, and not offend, and yet manage to not have her violate her own religion. So I've stepped off of using that character that way. Instead, she has become one of the many tools I use to show that there is something 'wrong' in this picture of a new world order in NiS, something even it's advocates and architects haven't found a 'magic box solution' to yet.

Saturday and Sunday are planned as one chapter, and the next time I return to these character will be in about 38 years, or 68 years - with either Alandra's daughter or grand daughter (still workinh out the timeline), but in a very different kind of story. It was actually my first effort at erotica and fiction writing in general, but never published. It needs a complete rewrite though, so I'm not sure if and when it will ever go out there. It's -VERY- rough (I suspect I'll only keep the outline, and go from the ground up).

Oh my... Finally wrote something did you?

Yeah, two days shy of a year on my last update to one of my stories, I finally posted a new chapter.

It's about freaking time isn't it? I know I can hear all the readers saying that, cause I'm saying it to... :)

Let's just say a whole bunch of -BLEEP- has gone on in my life over the last year. We'll try to claim that as an excuse, even though it's kind of a lame one. I know that for at least two months, I got stuck on one scene that I just couldn't figure out what to do with...

Well, I do hope the next and final chapter of Alandra is a bit quicker than a year. :)

As for that -BLEEP-, well for the past few years I've been building up to a career change, and now it's all underway. No more keeping stacks of old computers and CS books that bore me around the house. I can finally look at the computer, pretend I'm a tech idiot like all those masses and this thing is just for writing and playing 'Naked Sims 2'. Of course, now it's all been replaced by stacks of books on legal esoterica. That's been going for a while at least, but now I'm seeing the other side of the shift over.

Anyway, a lot happens in the Friday chapter of Alandra, but it isn't over yet. We get a lot more political themes in this installment. She's managed to peek under the hood of the NiS Program, and she's got a few things to say about it now. Not all of them nice, not all of them even rational. She does have a father who's a conspiracy nut after all. :)

She's also starting to realize a bit more about herself and her friends, but that, well, that's what gets wrapped up in the last chapter now isn't it?

It's almost there, but not quite. I've hinted at how it will end - I wrote that part back in late 2002, not that anyone will ever believe me when I say that. :)

A few of the negative sides of her personality have started to come through, and that will cost her. This one has never been planed as one of the 'shiny happy people' (to quote REM) stories.

I so want to get it finsihed, because I've got so many other stories I've been putting on hold for it...
