Comix for Chix #1: Charm School


Charm School by Elizabeth Watasin is a delightfully magical all-ages story of a teenage lesbian love triangle in the Twilight World, "where monsters, creatures, and magical beings co-exist."

At the center of the triangle is Bunny, a cute blonde teenage witch in the Sabrina mold (except, you know, for the whole lesbian thing). Her girlfriend, Dean, is a rebel-without-a-cause butch vampiress who likes to race cars and often takes Bunny for granted. Vying for Bunny's affections is Fairer Than, a lusty red-headed faerie who will try almost anything to get Bunny for herself.

The art by Watasin is black & white, done in a loose, slightly cartoony style that fits well with the story's sense of whimsy.

The series, published by Slave Labor, is up to issue #7. There is also a trade collection of the first three issue available under the title Charm School Book One: Magical Witch Girl Bunny; it can be found at most good comic stores or online via Amazon or the Slave Labor store.
