Chapter Ninteen - What Did We Do Last Summer?

By Arcane

The question was not why the young woman was seeing a therapist. The question was why hadn't she done it sooner. Three times she'd been involved in the machinations of three different homicidal lunatics. Her life had been ruined on three separate occasions. She wanted normality. Maybe one day Sydney Prescott would get it.

The therapist had come highly recommended. Even Gale had checked up on her. She seemed sounded good. The only thing that Sydney wasn't so sure about was the idea of group therapy. How many people out there could possibly have suffered the way she had? When the waiting room door opened and the girl walked in, Sydney had her doubts.

She was attractive, that was for sure, filling out her white top and blue jeans nicely. And she had the air of someone who saw demons in shadows. Sydney knew what that was like. The girl seemed her age, maybe younger. Sydney decided to be helpful. "Hi. I'm Sydney. Sydney Prescott."

For a second the girl seemed to be suspicious. Then she shook the hand quickly. "Julie James."

Julie took a seat.

"So you're here to see Doctor Lewis too?"

"Yes."

Talkative. Sydney thought to herself. Maybe she had to take a risk.

"So, did your boyfriend tried to kill you too?"

Julie looked at Sydney, dead serious. "Yes."

Sydney shivered. This was not a good start.

                                                                ********

The question was not why should the young woman see the therapist. It was why shouldn't she. The reasons why she shouldn't out weighed the shoulds. Firstly, she was too famous for it to be discrete. Secondly, it was probably beyond the help of a doctor. And thirdly, it wasn't her problem alone. Neve Campbell was not having a good time.

At first it had just been nightmares. Strange haunting images of vampires, towers in the sky, magical lights. As time went by they became more vivid. In fact, she was now suffering flashbacks during the day, making it hard to function. The one saving grace was that she was not fighting the problem alone.

Jennifer Love Hewitt was suffering too. The same dreams, the same images. The two were close, physically, mentally, spiritually. They were closer than friends and closer than lovers, though they were equally both. They shared a psychic connection, a bond of souls.

And right now, there was no one else they fully trusted. Once upon a time they might have turned to Helen Hunt or Uma Thurman. The leaders of the Sisterhood would have offered insight into the mental problems they were facing. But things had changed. Last summer, something had happened, something that Jennifer and Neve had not been privy to. Something big. And ever since they had been increasingly isolated. In fact, much of the Sisterhood had dissolved. Winona seemed to spend most of her free time with Kate Winslett now. The others had gone their separate ways, staying in touch but loosing something. In truth, Neve and Jennifer didn't trust anyone else.

"I had it again." Neve said as she entered the room. "The same dream. The tower in the sky."

"Same." Jennifer nodded. "It has to mean something."

                                                                ********

They talked. It helped. Sydney began to feel that she and Julie weren't to different after all. They had both been stalked, more than once. They had both seen their friends and loved ones killed before their eyes. They had both suffered betrayal and hurt. And they had both survived. They had a connection after all.

"I heard about Woodsborough. It was big news."

"Yeah. It made Gale a big enough star."

"You see him too don't you?" Julie asked.

"Him?"

"The ghost. From time to time you see a shape or a shadow. And you think it's him. Late at night. You can never be sure."

"I know how that is. That's why we're here right?"

"Sydney Prescott?"

"That's me." Sydney turned to the woman in the lab coat. She was in her late thirties, black hair in a bun and thick lensed glasses. Very doctor like thought Sydney.

"And you must be Julie James. I'm Doctor Lewis. You can call me Flora. Come on through." Both girls stood and followed.

                                                                ********

Getting away from the city hadn't helped. Even out here in the country, Neve and Jennifer couldn't escape their own minds. They had tried everything they could think of: dream projection, psychic links, common hypnosis. Nothing worked. Something was locked inside their minds, gnawing away at them. They sat on the deck of the cabin, looking out at the lake, enjoying the moment of peace.

When night came, dreams came with it, and how ever much they cradled each other, comfort was distant. Neve had suggested that they come out here, to be alone, to look for answers. If nothing else, the sunsets were beautiful. At least they were until the storm came.

It was sudden and it was brutal forcing the women inside as lightning flashed in the sky above. It did little to help their state of mind. If anything the flashing chaos above seemed to drive into their minds more and more. Memories of a past they didn't know existed.

Vampires. Vampires were common. And creatures that screamed like howling winds. They haunted Jennifer more than Neve. As the storm raged and the rain pelted down, they lay in bed, arms wrapped around each other. A flash of lightning illuminated the woods outside. A chill ran through Neve, something separate from the expected discomfort. Jennifer felt the sudden clutch of her bed mate.

"Neve? What was it?"

"Outside." Neve shivered. "I saw something."

"Something? What?"

"The face. The Ghost face."

She knew she had seen it, not an illusion, not a dream. The Scream face staring back at her from outside the cabin.
Ice ran through her veins. She was stuck in a nightmare.

                                                                ********

"Just sit back on the cushions and relax."  Flora, as she insisted on being called, said softly. She herself assumed a cross legged position on one of the cushions. Julie and Sydney were unsure at first but sat down on the floor.

"I know what you've both been through and I can't begin to imagine what horror you've both faced. But I have learnt over the years that the human mind can overcome it's fears. You don't have to be burdened with your pasts, however terrible. Now, I want you both to think of a time and place before all this happened. Somewhere you were safe. Close your eyes and imagine that safe place."

Both girls did so.

For Sydney it was her bedroom, before her mother died. She used to listen to her mother singing her to sleep. It was her perfect world, before it was shattered. For Julie it was a night on a beach, before the disasters that befell them later that night. Simply lying on the beach in the arms of her lover was enough for her.

"Good. I want you to find that place. Stay there. Happy and warm, happy and warm. Nothing can hurt you there. Nothing can harm you in this place. Now listen to my voice. My voice won't hurt you. Nothing will hurt you. You're happy and warm. The more you listen to me, the happier and safer you will be. Happy and warm..."

The doctor droned on and the girls felt their minds begin to drift away to a place where nothing mattered.

                                                                ********

"I swear I saw it." Neve slid out of bed cautiously.

"Scan for it." Jennifer suggested.

"Our abilities are totally out of order right now. I shouldn't risk it."

"It's the only way to know."

Neve nodded and closed her eyes. Her powers were nothing compared to Helen or Uma but they had their merits. It was easy enough to try to detect psychic imprints. She'd done it before. Had she? With the others? All of them looking for.. For something.. She couldn't remember. Turnip? What did that mean?

"Neve!"

Neve jerked awake, Jennifer’s arms holding her up. "Jen, I felt something. A memory. Turnip?"

"Turnip? What does that mean?" But somehow, Jennifer knew it did mean something. She shook her head. "Did you get any imprints."

"Two." Neve nodded. "There are two people out there."

"Okay. Then lets find them."

"Jen. If they are.. who I think they are."

"We can deal with them Neve. I promise."

                                                                ********

Sydney couldn't remember the last time she had felt so happy. Everything was at peace and nothing mattered to her.

"Sydney?" a voice called from the clouds.

"Yes."

"Are you relaxed?"

"Yes."

"You're in a nice safe place aren't you."

"Yes."

"I want you to stand and come with me."

Sydney felt her body moving, so soft and relaxed through space. She kept floating along, a hand leading her.

"Sydney. This is a sensory depravation tank. I want you to lie down inside."

"Okay." Sydney nodded.

She stepped into the water, feeling it cover the cuffs of her track pants. she didn't mind. She lay her relaxed body down, letting the nice warm water support her weight. Everything was peaceful, the wetness of her clothes not at all uncomfortable. Flora closed the lid, leaving Sydney in complete darkness, nothing to distract her from her peaceful world.
She walked back to the main room where Julie sat cross-legged, staring directly ahead.

"Julie?"

"Yes."

"You and I are going to confront your fears. Okay?"

"Okay."

"I'll be here the whole time so there's nothing to worry about."

"Okay."

"Julie, lie down over here."

She did so, perfectly relaxed and not at all concerned when Flora produce straps.

                                                                ********

With the storm raging, the girls only got a few feet before they were soaked to the skin. It was the least of their worries.
Jennifer looked out into the rain but it was almost impossible to see. In the driving, roaring rain, speech would have been equally difficult, if it had been necessary.

"Do you see anyone?" said a voice in Jennifer's mind.

"No." she answered her friend, keeping a tight grip on her hand. Given their circumstances, psychic communication was indispensable.

Lightning flashed in the sky. A flash of electricity. A shock like - some thing. A flash and then pain. Pain and impossible ecstasy. The agony of a scream, a dozen screams. They all merged into a cacophony until at last only one was heard.
Her own. Jennifer opened her eyes. She was on her knees, hands pressed over her ears. Another flashback. They were becoming more common. She pulled down her hands, shivering at a sudden realization. She turned to her left. Neve was gone. She turned to her right. There, standing at the end of the small pier, was a black figure. Swathed in a slick black rain coat the figure stood. In the flashes of light Jennifer could see the sharp hook hand.

                                                                ********

Julie James did not move, totally relaxed in her mind. Had she tried, she would have failed. Her wrists her strapped by her side, her waist covered and her ankles equally tight. The gurney restraints seemed much more suited for a violent lunatic than the docile young woman they restrained. The rise and fall of her chest would have been  barely noticeable if not for her impressive bosom, restrained only by a white cotton bra.

"Julie?" Flora asked softly. "Do you know where you are?"

"I'm on a beach. It's nice here. Night but warm."

"Are you alone?"

"No."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"You're sure your not all alone on the beach?"

"I.." Julie creased her brow, unsure.

"All alone."

"I.. I'm alone. There's no one here."

"Do you feel safe?"

"Yes. I like it here. Safe and warm."

"What about the wind? the wind is cold Julie."

"The wind?"

"Yes. The cold night wind. Can you feel it?"

"I.. yes." Julie shuddered.

"Yes. the wind is very cold. Cold on your skin. Your bare skin. You're only wearing a bra and panties."

"I.. I am. It's cold. Where are my clothes?"

"You don't know do you? You can't remember. Is that rain Julie?"

"Rain?" she whimpered.

"Yes. Cold rain. Cold rain falling down, soaking you. You're alone, wet and cold."

"Noo." Julie shivered.

"Julie, who was it that tried to kill you?"

"A man in a black raincoat. with a hook."

"A sharp hook?"

"Yes."

"Julie. I want you to look into the dark, into the rain. The hook man. He's coming for you Julie!"

Julie began to scream.

                                                                ********

"Jen!" Neve called out but there was no hope of being heard in the raging storm. She had lost her friend in a moment of disorientation. In fact, she had lost herself. She was still near the cabin, she could see the lights shining in the distance.

Lights. Magical lights. Green. Five lines of a .. pentagram? Neve shook her head. the visions were getting worse. Then she saw a figure lurch in front of her. The Scream Ghost. It wasn't a vision. Neve stepped back  as the figure moved forward.
She was in no position to question the impossibility of his being here. She turned and ran. She came around the corner.
Crashing straight into Jennifer.

"Jen, someone dressed up like Scream is that way."

"Great. Someone dressed up like Last Summer is that way."

"But no one knows we're here."

"Well someone does. What do we do?"

"Well this isn't a movie, it's the real world."

"So?"

"In the real world Jen, we have psychic powers."

                                                                ********

Julie was hysterical, screaming in terror as she struggled against the straps. Her breath was ragged, heart thumping in her chest. Raw terror consumed her. She was helpless to escape it.

"Help Me!" she screamed, tugging frantically.

"Julie, I know you're scared."

"Please help me! Please."

"I will help you Julie."

"Please. I'll do anything!"

"I know you will."

Flora placed her hand on Julie’s heaving bosom. "Can you feel me touching you Julie?"

"Yes!" Julie sobbed.

"It feels nice when I touch you like this. Nice and safe."

"Safe?"

"Yes. When I touch you, you're not so scared. He can't get you when I touch you."

"He can't?"

"No. You're safe with me Julie. Safe and so nice. It feels so nice."

"So nice." Julie agreed, starting to calm down.

"It feels very nice. Nice and safe. Nice and happy."

"Happy." Julie sighed.

"You'd do anything to stay safe wouldn't you Julie?"

"Yes."

"So you'd do anything for me wouldn't you Julie?"

"Yes."

Julie felt a warm hand pressing against the fabric of her panties. "You like that touch Julie. It makes you feel good. My touch makes you feel good. Nice and safe and warm."

Julie let out a contented sigh as Flora started to rub her gently. "You like me to touch you like this, to rub you like this. You'd do anything to feel it wouldn't you? To feel this safe and happy? You want me to touch you. You need it Julie. You need to obey me, so I will touch you and rub you. You need that don't you?"

"Yes."

Through the fabric of the bra, Julie’s nipple had become erect as the palm rolled over it. "So safe with me. You need to feel safe. Need to obey. No fear Julie. No fear. "

"No fear." Julie puffed. The hand rubbing her panties was gaining speed and in this blissful state, Julie felt her body rising quickly.

"Safe. Obey. Happy. Warm. Obey me and be safe and happy. Obey me and be warm."

"Yes. Obey." Julie moaned as the massaging fingertips pressed into her crotch, massaging her womanhood.

"You will obey me in every way won't you Julie?"

"Yes. Yes. Ohhh Yes." Julie moaned.

"Julie. Come."

"OOOhhhhh!" Julie shuddered as an orgasm surged through her. She was so warm. And happy. And willing to obey.

                                                                ********

Jennifer did the last thing anyone would have expected. She walked straight towards the hook handed killer. She only stopped when she was a foot from him. She opened her arms wide. "Give me your best shot." she said simply.

The killer contemplated her for a second. Then he raised the hook and brought it down, embedding in the flesh of her chest. Which was no longer there. The black figure looked from side to side. His prey had gone. Then he saw her, ten feet away, near the start of the pier. He gave chase.

                                                                ********

Clad only in wet bra and panties and strapped to a bed, Sydney Prescott was in hell. She screamed as her worst nightmares all came crashing down upon her in an endless torrent. Her wild screams of terror filled the room, though Julie simply stood and watched. Flora had told her that everything was all right so she was content to watch Flora. The woman traced her fingers over the wet fabric of Sydney’s bra.

"Can you feel my touch?" she asked.

                                                                ********

The Scream man raised his hunting knife and brought it down in Neve's chest. The knife hit a tree trunks. He spun to his right. Neve stood a distance away. She beckoned him. He followed.

                                                                ********

Julie watched, without expression as Flora masturbated Sydney. "So safe Sydney. So happy."

"So happy." Sydney sighed as she felt the warmth flow through her.

"You need to obey Sydney."

"Yessss." Sydney agreed dreamily as she felt fingers strumming her erect nipples. Hell had become heaven.

                                                                ********
The hook man stalked forward the an intensity that only a movie killer could muster. His prey stood, drenched and helpless, simply waiting to be impaled. The Scream man glided ahead with the eerie precision of a Hollywood slasher.
Neve stood, waiting to die, for her blood to flow.

A hook swept out to one side. A hunting knife rose into the air. Both gleamed in a flash of lightning. Both swept in and arc, striking the girls. The hook man looked down at the knife in his chest. The Scream man looked at the hook in his side.
Both fell to the sodden earth.

Jennifer and Neve simply watched. Normally such a display would have shocked them. Somehow dead bodies didn't seem unusual. They stood and watched the killers, the victims of mental abilities far beyond their feeble expectations.
They waited until life signs had faded.

"Well, we won." Neve shrugged.

"Yeah." Jennifer agreed. "Well it's not like we saved the world."

Both women collapsed to the floor. Suddenly, it all came flooding back.

                                                                ********

Sydney and Julie sat beside each other. An hour ago they hadn't even known each others names. Now they were kissing like there was no tomorrow. What they didn't know and Flora did, was that there really would be no tomorrow. Even as the couple frantically groped each other, exploring their bodies; even as Flora watched them ,feeling thrills of perversity rush through her, their hours were numbered. Certainly the girls had their uses. Flora couldn't deny the aesthetic sight of Sydney sucking and licking on Julie's ample breasts.

But the time would come when Flora would tire of them. Then she would slit their throats and dump them in the back room. With the real doctor Lewis.

                                                                ********

"Neve." Jennifer croaked as she rose from the mud.

"I'm here Jen. You remember?"

"I remember everything. Oh God."

"It's okay." Neve said, wrapping and arm around her friend and lover. "I'm here."

Jennifer swallowed a sob. "I guess Helen and Uma didn't do a good enough job erasing us."

"Maybe it was just time we dealt with it."

Jennifer nodded and rested her head on Neve's shoulder. Ignoring the rain and lightning, Jennifer let out a chuckle.

"What's so funny?" Neve asked, pleased at Jennifer’s recovery.

"Now I know what I did last summer." Jennifer giggled.

Neve joined her. "I wonder who they are?" Neve asked aloud.

Jennifer looked over to the fallen bodies. "Maybe we should look."

Lightning struck the fallen bodies. There was a flash and then they were gone. "What the-" Neve began. Then lightning struck them too.

                                                                ********

Julie licked Sydney’s nipples. Sydney rubbed her fingers between Julie’s legs. Flora watched them.

Soon.

Soon they would both die. She was not a doctor. In fact she was a patient. But the doctor had been careless. She toyed with the scalpel in her hand. And the girls that came in, were just too much fun to pass up.

Soon.

Light flared. Sydney and Julie didn't even flinch. Flora looked up. Soaked to the skin stood exact doubles of the two girls.
Flora shot to her feet. Fury that she couldn't even explain washed over her. Scalpel in hand, she rushed at the newcomers.
They raised their hands instinctively.

Flora felt a jarring force hit her, throwing her back against the wall. She crashed to the ground. Immediately she tried to get to her feet. The last thing she realized before blacking out was that the last inch of a scalpel blade was sticking out of her chest.

Neve and Jennifer looked around. They were at a loss to explain what was going on, but their recently regained memories told them that the inexplicable was more than possible. They looked at Julie and Sydney, still locked in a passionate embrace. Together, Neve and Jennifer brushed through the minds of their counterparts. Sydney and Julie fell to the ground, fast asleep. Neve and Jennifer exchanged glances.

"Should we erase this or help them come to terms?" Jennifer asked.

But they both knew the answer.

THE END??
