Chapter Ten

RESEARCH JOURNAL ENTRY: 6 June

So far my attempts to isolate the particle responsible for our hyperaccelerated activity have failed. I am, however, able to discern certain properties and abilities of this unknown particle. My two associates have been subjected to a series of test and interviews and it seems my initial diagnosis of their condition was actually correct. Their natural state of existence is in a hyperaccelerated state. They are unable to transition items to function when they are accelerated nor themselves back in sync with normal time.

When the boys were exposed to the particle, they were driving back to campus. Their car was thrown off the road by the gravimetric wave and crashed. They both confirmed that they had seen their own images, as they were moments before the accident, moving very slowly until it vanished. After having some fun with the local residents of Paradise, the two had met up with Dr. Barton. According to Dr. Barton, my two associates were thrown out of sync with normal time. The images vanished because they were not back at the exact point where they were thrown out of sync to resynchronize. That may explain why they have no control. It's safe to assume that Mr. Gonzalez was able to resynchronize himself, hence his abilities. I was in the capsule when exposed, so I may not have been thrown out as severe as the others were.

So far it is taking the use of my own abilities to allow my associates to 'shift' between both time frames. They are able to stay in normal time for approximately 30 hours before they are forced back into acceleration. I believe I may be able to adapt some form of a 'Pacemaker' that should destabilize them enough to allow them to make the transition back and forth at will, plus give me a controlling element. I'll need to go to a hospital or a high-end jeweler for the right equipment.

On another side note, like astronauts or submariners on extended missions, my two associates are suffering from a form of dementia related to prolonged isolation and interdependency with each other. Their sudden shock back to 'reality' has only unhinged them further. They cannot be trusted.

My own abilities are increasing. My body is able to heal rapidly. So far, no upper limit to the amount of mass I can transition has been found. It seems also that once I transition an item, it remains synchronized with me. If I make the transition, somehow it does too, regardless of distance. That can be of use in the future.

An interesting effect is if one of us shifts in close proximity to another, the other person is also forced to shift. But one can shift then come into close proximity to another without forcing the other to shift. This will require further investigation.

So far all the suggestions I've made to all the hotel staff and guests, while accelerated, seem to be permanent and compelling. I've left various trigger-phrases and commands in several people and used them randomly. Not one has failed. Depending on the subject's will, it was possible for them to realize what they are doing, but they were still compelled to comply with the suggestion. Some believed their actions were normal, regardless of what it was. And others realized, to their horror, what they did after the suggestion had been carried out (with hilarious results). It was just a simple matter to rearrange their memories afterwards and let them continue on with their mindless lives.

Besides suggestions, it is possible to teach or instruct a person, while I'm accelerated, with new skills using this subliminal technique, though it seems to be limited to audio only. Barbara has mastered the Japanese, Chinese and German languages, using advanced language tapes, in so many days. She has total retention and uses them as second nature. Tammy has been programmed with the entire works of Shakespeare (it's rather funny when she's compelled to talk in Shakespearean). I've had to alter their awareness of course, so as not to arouse suspicion about their new knowledge.

"Hey doc, check this out!"

Sellers flicked a 'Boss Button'; changing the screen image on the laptop, then keyed the shutdown sequence. He left the hotel's business center, where he was experimenting with Tammy and Barbara some more, and headed to the lobby. Chester and Andrew were laughing hysterically on the floor. Sellers looked around the frozen hotel lobby; everyone in the lobby of the hotel had a ball of water frozen hanging just inches above their heads.

Sellers gave a stern look at his two demented associates. "What have I told you about these public displays. We have been together for a week and I still have to remind you of the dangers to us. I can understand playing with one or two people, like what the both of you did to our regular housekeeper, but this is going to draw attention. Now put all of this water back in the fountain and meet me in the business center. We have to go somewhere."

Andrew jabbed Chester in the ribs with his elbow. "Told you we shouldn't do it!"

"Yeah, yeah."

The two removed all the balls of water and placed them back in the fountain.

"Hey, that was a good idea to scoop the water like ice-cream."

"Gentlemen!" yelled Sellers from afar.

Chester and Andrew ran back to the business center where Sellers was waiting impatiently, laptop in hand. Sellers thought and shifted the three of them back into real time.

"Chester get the car ready." Sellers walked up to the counter. "Tammy."

Tammy locked her sparkling blue eyes on Sellers. "Yes sir?"

"Do you know where the nearest hospital is, dear girl?"

Tammy's face went flush. She looked skyward as she started groping herself.

"Uuu, oh god." She bit her lip, shivering at the imaginary touch of a hand playing inside her panties. Barbara continued working oblivious to what Tammy was doing. Tammy's hand finally pulled away from her chest and began typing the inquiry into the computer. She suggestively wiggled her hips as she began to slightly bounce in place.

"Please sir," she said in desperation as her blue eyes showed her uncomfortable stance.

"Uh, Uh." Sellers waggled his finger. "First the information."

"Uhhh god, there's the Indian hospital and St...." She began to pant heavily, "Vincents both a mile away." Her hands crept down to the hem of her emerald uniform skirt, slowly raising it higher. Showing Sellers her long sculpted legs.

Sellers purposely mused over the two hospitals, making Tammy bounce a little harder. He spotted her hand going into her simple blue cotton panties. "Uh, Uh. Not yet." Tammy reluctantly removed her trembling hand. "St.Vincent? Give me the directions."

Tammy quickly turned around to the computer. She was going insane with imaginary sensations all around her. Tammy complied with the order, handing them over in a hurry.

Sellers just looked at the lean, statuesque brunette as she wiggled in angst. "Thank you, my dear, you may relieve yourself now."

Tammy blew a panted sigh of relief as she dropped down to the floor on her back. She hiked up her emerald uniform skirt, letting her hand go inside her panties. She moaned as her fingers slid in and out of herself, her fingers glistening with her juice. She thrashed her head around as she arched her back. Her legs were in the air bent at the knees, like she was sitting. Her jacket was open and her silken white blouse was ripped open. Her other hand danced across her chest, fondling her pearly white tits.

Sellers silently chuckled at the site of Tammy masturbating uncontrollably.

"Barbara, why don't you join Tammy here for a little fun, dear girl?"

At the sound of those words, Barbara felt an intense wave of lust overcome her. She snapped the pencil she was writing with in half. She tore open her white silken blouse, revealing her cupless satin bra, just as Sellers told her to wear from now on. She dropped to her knees and slinked on all fours towards Tammy until Tammy soaking wet pussy was right in her face.

Tammy smelled her coworker's body perfume and shoved her face right up Barbara's skirt. Barbara licked Tammy's labia making Tammy all the more horny. Tammy lovingly kissed and lightly bit Barbara's ass, inner thighs and pussy. They both squealed and gasped as they both rolled around groping and licking one another to bliss.

Sellers just smiled, thinking he should've had a camcorder for this. "That's good girls. Now keep this up for another five minutes then fix yourselves up and forget this whole thing ever happened. Oh, by the way, why don't the both of you go up to my room after your shifts and play with our Delta Ladies there for the night."

Sellers laughed all the way to the SUV.

Chester drove to St. Vincent and parked at the far end of the lot.

"Chester, stay in the car. Andrew, come with me and bring that case with you."

Andrew hooked onto the case and flew backwards when he yanked on it and it didn't budge an inch. "Sheez, what have got in this thing? It weighs a ton."

"Never mind, just bring it."

They entered the hospital's main entrance. Sellers went to the directory sign and found the locations to Cardiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Radiology. Deciding to secure the needed equipment first, they entered the elevator and went to the eighth floor to Cardiology.

Janice went by the front desk. "Okay Jerry, here's the papers. What's next?"

"You have a baby in Treatment 1, laceration."

"Got it." Janice got her stethoscope and walked quickly to the treatment area.

"All right now." She pulled the privacy curtain open. She looked in only to see Joel sitting there with his hand wrapped in a bloody gauze cocoon. "What are you doing here?"

She looked back at Jerry. "What's he doing here?" Looking back at Joel. "What are you doing here?"

Jerry raised his hands in surrender. "Hey, he paid me 10 bucks to see you."

Joel gave Janice his patented puppy dog eyes. "Sorry, busted my hand up using a cheater bar."

Losing just a little patience, Janice replied, "So why didn't you go to the airport first-aid?"

"Because I know the doctors, well at least one in particular at St. Vincent, that has a bedside manner I absolutely love."

"Not to mention the doctor herself, huh." She cut open the gauze, revealing his hand, sliced open in the palm. "The cut's already healing. Have you been taking steroids?" Janice cleaned it up, noting with curiosity, the slight scar tissue already starting to form across the palm. "This is strange."

"What?"

Janice shook her head. "Nothing, you'll need a Tetanus shot." She smiled while holding the needle straight up, squirting out a little. "Drop them."

"Oookay, you're the doctor."

She raised the needle high.

"Ever thought of a career in SPEAR-fishing?" The jab of the needle made Joel shift.

Sellers felt uneasy. "Did you do that?" He looked at the wall clock and instantly knew he was forced to shift.

"Wasn't me doc."

Sellers reached into his coat. "He's here, somewhere. Take this." He tossed Andrew his pistol, then he quickly reached over the bench, where a frozen technician was about to ask him who he was, and grabbed a bin full of pacemakers. Thinking to himself. "His girlfriend's a doctor. She has to work here."

"You're kidding." Andrew checked to make sure one round was in the chamber. Then felt the shift back to normal time.

Joel thought quickly since Janice was frozen with the needle stuck in his ass. "Take it out! Take it out!

"Ha! You big baby."

Sellers ran out of Cardiology with Andrew a quick second behind him.

"Hey! You can't take that!" Yelled the technician.

Andrew spun around and aimed the gun right at the technician.

"NO!!" Sellers snapped back and smacked Andrew's arm. The gun swerved and fired. The bullet hit a ceiling panel, sending sparks showering down to the floor. The floor desk nurse screamed as she hit the alarm.

Red warning lights, with a buzzing klaxon, flashed and wailed through the hallways of the hospital. Security personnel listened in on their walkie-talkies for the gunshot location and dashed over when they heard the location. Medical personnel moved patients into the nearest room as the doors throughout the building were sealing themselves shut in their wards.

"What the hell?!" Yelled Joel.

Janice moved her head and saw everyone moving patients quickly to a room. "Omigod, stay here."

"Bullshit!!"

Janice placed her hand on his chest and shoved him hard back down on the examining table. "Stay here!" She ran out of the room just as she heard the door's magnetic lock clamp down.

"C'mon doc, shift us!" Andrew ran down the hallway just behind Sellers.

"I don't want to tip him off if he's nearby."

"Fuck that!!"

They turned a corner and faced a team of three security guards charging right at them.

"Dammit!" Sellers screamed. He cleared his mind and thought.

"What the fuck!" Joel sat in the room and felt the energy surge. Something about the surge didn't feel right. He didn't start it. It felt more like a reaction to something, something instinctive. "I didn't do that."

He looked outside the window. Everything was frozen in time. Orderlies shuttling passengers into rooms like so much cordwood. Janice and Melissa were moving some children into the daycare room. One child had tripped and was stopped in mid-air with his little arms out to break his fall.

"Sellers yelled again. "Dammit! I know he's here now." He grabbed Andrew by his shirt. "Who the fuck told you to shoot anything!!"

"I'm sorry, doc."

Sellers looked Andrew straight in the eye. "Your sole purpose right now is to get back to the car and get the fuck back to the hotel by tomorrow. Don't go there directly. Take these with you, if you want to be normal again."

"You found a way?"

"Yes now go!!" Sellers took the pistol from Andrew. The two ran down the nearest stairwell to the first floor.

Joel looked around the room. He spotted a reflex hammer and scalpel in a Saran wrapped medical kit. With the tools he found, Joel managed to remove the hinge pins from the door and pry the door open. He got out and went to the main desk. He saw the security monitor and headed straight where it said the problem was.

Sellers and Andrew reached the first floor. They opened the door heading for the nearest exit. Joel turned the corner and stopped in his tracks, surprised to see someone else moving in the time-stopped landscape.

"Hey!"

Sellers locked his sight on Joel.

Joel recognized him immediately.

"You son of a bitch!!"

Joel ran towards Sellers as he aimed his pistol. Joel dove around a corner as he fired. The bullet flew right past him, into the wall. The wall did not splinter; it just had a tiny hole where the bullet entered.

Sellers squeezed off another two rounds and shoved Andrew out the exit first. "GO!!"

Joel spotted a nearby security guard frozen in mid-run. He grabbed the guard's .38 revolver from his frozen hand and two speed loaders from his gun belt. He heard the door opening and turned the corner. Sellers squeezed off another three rounds through the glass. All the bullets did was make three holes where the bullets pierced it. Joel kissed the floor and low-crawled across the lobby to a column for cover.

Andrew ran across the parking lot. "Chester! Start the fucking car. Start the fucking car!"

Chester popped his head up from behind a shrub. The gunfire shocked him to run back to the SUV. He had a woman's bra strapped to his head and a pair of panties in his hands. "What the fuck is going on?!" He jumped into the driver's seat as Andrew tossed the case into the back. Sellers saw Andrew dive in through the window. He fired off another three rounds then doubled back through the opened emergency room entrance.

Joel heard the tires squealing. "They have a car? Shit!" He got up and charged the entrance door. Joel saw the SUV peel out onto the road. It tried to dodge all the cars that were frozen on the road. Joel looked around. He saw a motorcycle rider perched on his bike. He knocked the rider off onto the curb; the rider lay on the ground, still in the riding position, and yanked off the helmet to don it. He jumped on the bike and placed both his hands on the handle bar. The pain made him wince but the bike roared to life. Dodging everything on the roadway, he spotted the SUV going to the southbound on-ramp. He choked the throttle wide open. The engine roared as the fuel shot in. The motorcycle flew up the on-ramp and darted down the right side shoulder. The SUV was a good half-mile ahead. Joel shoved the throttle as far as he could. He was catching up.

Andrew finally pulled himself inside. "Faster man, faster! He's catching up!

"I can't go any faster! It's too heavy! We gotta dump some of that shit!"

Andrew leaned the back of his seat. Scrambling to the back, Andrew rooted through all the cargo. "There's too much stuff!"

"Chuck it all! Oh shit!" Chester yanked the steering wheel to the side but fail to avoid a time-stopped idiot crossing the highway.

"I can't! The doc said he found a way to help us; he needs all this stuff! What the?" He saw the body fly up into the air and just hang there suspended like a fly caught in amber.

Joel dodged his way through a frozen work crew on the side of the road. He saw an opening and moved over to the middle lane. He weaved his way between the time-stopped cars and was able to see some movement in the SUV.

"God damn!" Joel twisted the handle, moving to the right side of the SUV

Andrew shot eight times through the rear window with the shotgun he found. "DIE MOTHERFUCKER!! A smiled toothy smile was etched on his face until he almost fell out of the window. "Keep it steady!"

Chester jiggled the wheel from one side to another "You try driving like this!"

Andrew dropped down to reload the shotgun. A small cardboard canister marked 'MARK IIA1 GRENADE - FRAGMENTATION' was lying there in an opened crate right in front of his face. Andrew's smile came back again.

"OH SHIT! Hurry up, he's shooting back!"

The bullets whizzed by not hitting anything.

Chester popped up in front of a side window, shotgun ready. Joel jammed on the brake. The SUV raced past him. Andrew tossed out a grenade through the rear window. Joel's eyes grew wide with fear. He laid down the bike on the concrete and slid as his workpants took the brunt of the road rash. He let go and the bike slid into the grenade as it exploded. The explosion blew a small crater where it had landed and steel fragments shattered every windshield and pierced every person within thirty feet. The bike flew apart igniting the fuel still in its tank, showering everything, including Joel, with its flame. Joel rolled around on the concrete, his exposed skin singed from the flames. The SUV drove away then disappeared in the distance.

Feeling the sting of fire and gravel from the concrete, Joel slowly crawled over to the shoulder. He reached down to the side of his pants and swore out loud. He looked back up the road and saw his wallet and cellphone scraped across the highway. He mustered his strength and stood up. His vision blurred from the adrenaline rush that surpressed most of his pain. With some difficulty and stiffness, Joel walked down to the off-ramp to a Texaco gas station where he pilfered change, with stiff fingers, for the payphone. Bracing himself, he thought. The power surge wracked him in pain as he screamed out loud.

The roadway blew up where the grenade had landed. Concrete flew in every direction as the cars crashed into one another from injured drivers, shattered windshields, and punctured tires.

A body slammed into the concrete highway as if he fell from the sky.

Back at the hospital, the glass flew apart as the walls splintered from the bullets fired, scattering the already panicked people inside into a near stampede.

Janice heard the screams. She herded the children into the daycare room. She felt a vibration on her hip and grabbed her cellphone. She heard the voice and saw the treatment room door pried open.

"How the hell did you get out?!"

"Get out of there now! He's was in there!"

"Who?"

"Sellers, the guy who kidnapped us!" Joel felt his head spin as he saw the world swirl around him. "I'm at the Texaco off twen....". His eyes rolled back as he slid down to the sidewalk, unconscious. The receiver dangled over his head.

Janice screamed into her cellphone. "Joel! Joel!" She figured out "off twenty five." The children were safely away in the daycare room. The door was closing itself, and at the last instant Janice leapt out into the hallway leaving a stunned Melissa screaming at her

"What are you doing?!"

Janice ignored her friend and ran to her car. She pressed her keychain remote and the car's doors unlocked as the engine turned over. Janice got in and turned her head over her right shoulder as she shifted the car into reverse.

Sellers blinked into her view, his hand touching her short soft bobbed, jet black hair. Unalarmed by his sudden appearance, Janice's panicked expression was replaced with a softer, more relaxed one.

"You know where to go." Sellers said smiling as he leaned over and smelled her perfumed neck.

Janice leisurely drove her car into traffic.
