Acrostic - The Martyr

Finn as a rock the noble martyr stood,
Unbending as a rod of tempered steel;
Calmly he sees the touch ignite the wood,
Knowing the agony he soon must feel.

Mighty the influence which makes the body
Yield prompt obedience to the power of will!

Conscious of being right, this is the motto,
Upon his banner writ in words of light.
No other motive can supply the power,
To cheer the martyr in his dying hour!

Dying because he would maintain the right,
Ever should rule in place of boastful might!
And so the martyr's name shall never die,
Round the whole world the stirring tale shall fly.

Peoples unborn his noble name shall learn,
And his example make their bosoms burn;
Patriots shall hail him as a brother true,
And write his history for all to view!
