SUMMARY: Lori is nineteen years old and about to start her sophomore year of college. She flies to southern California, intending to spend three days visiting with her father. As it turns out, he doesn't have the time or desire to actually spend time with her. She makes the best of a crummy situation by hanging out with his 33-year-old neighbor, Jack. COMMENTARY: I have a feeling that this story may appeal more to women than it does to men. It is a romance; it isn't filled with sex; the main character is a young woman. Another way of putting all this is that while I was entertained, I have enjoyed other stories more than I enjoyed this one. I attribute this fact not to a lack of ability on the author's part, but to the fact that my tastes and this story do not mesh very well. If the main character had been a young man and he had been hanging out with older woman I think I would have enjoyed the story more, but then it would have been quite a different story. OK, now I am feeling guilty. I didn't mean to give this story short shrift. It is very well written. The author does a very nice job with Lori. She seems realistic. It is just that the subject matter wasn't the sort of stuff I look for in erotica. By the way, the operative in the last sentence, in case you missed it, was 'I'. To be perfectly honest I -- there I go again -- get the impression that the author wrote this with a female audience in mind. Have I gone too far? Was it really necessary to say all that? Maybe, maybe not, but I wanted to make sure that y'all understood that while I wasn't wild about the story, I get the impression that some of you may care for it more than I did. In particular I was thinking that members of the female persuasion will probably enjoy it more than I did. OBJECTIVE ANALYSIS: 8.0 (out of 10)
SUBJECTIVE ANALYSIS: Very Good | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
