These are ordered by recent hits (over all sites I know of where my stories
are published, summed over the last six months),
though it's still the all-time figures via ASSTR that are given above.
What do the authors get from the hits? Knowing what's popular, obviously, but there are other useful pointers too. For
example, I can work out that many people read more than just one of my stories, which I guess must be a good sign. And
although the long multi-parters aren't accessed on the web so often, I know that over 80% who start at Part 1 do read right
through - not bad either.
