Changeling: The Dreaming Terms

(all are in alphabetical order)

Art - Changeling powers, allowing them access to certain spells and powers depending on the specific powers of the art. Examples are Chicanery, Wayfarer, Soothsay and Sovereign.

Banality - The simple force of disbelief. Faeries exist on the basis that humanity believes to some degree in magic, the unknown and that which is of dreams. Those who do not however believe, or who do so very weakly are considered banal. A Fae cannot come too close to an extremely banal person or risk being undone.

Chrysalis - A chrysalis occurs when a human with a Faerie soul incurs a massively stimulating situation.. be it good or bad. People who are drowning or similarly troubled often chrysalise and use their instincts and power to escape those situations. Those who experience joyous situations often feel it tenfold and remember it with vivid detail to the day they die. Often, glimpses of the past, present and future will accompany the transformation.

Changelings - The adapted Faerie spirits who live on in the modern age to this date. They have learned to birth themselves into Human hosts who will chrysalise one day and learn of their Faerie nature. When a host dies, typically the soul transfers into a nearby body, most often one just being born.

Chimerical, chimera - Of, or pertaining to the Enchanted dream-world.

Enchanted - Enchanted people may see into the chimerical world just as Changelings do. They are infused with glamour by a Changeling and may see into that world for several hours, or days at the Changeling's discretion, and depending on how much glamour is given.

Faerie - A spirit of fantasy, the agent of dreams. Faeries were originally living with mankind in harmony until the birth of science. At that point, banality from humans began killing the Fae, forcing them to become Changelings.

Faerie glade - commonly a gathering place for Fae spirits, commonly charged with a great deal of glamour, key in some ceremonies

Glamour - Raw dream energy, the lifeblood of Changelings.

Nocker - A kith of Changelings renowned for both their incredible creativity, crafting abilities, and cynicism. Artisans who are second to none, they can craft chimerical items with unparalleled skill. Unfortunately, they also have fiery tempers and find the flaws in everything, reservation of their opinions is also rare in the extreme.

Sidhe - The noble kith. All others are considered to be commoners. All of them are exceedingly beautiful, their suave natures bubbling to the surface in their human bodies. Men are always the cute guy, or the one every woman wants. Women are the hot-bodied vixens that almost any man would die to sleep with. Extremely athletic at the same time, the Sidhe also are unable to be humiliated. If this is by fate or magic, most don't know. Unfortunately, their weak ties to the planet means that once a human host dies, most Fae will be undone permanently.

Sovereign - The Changeling art of command. Used long ago by the noble Sidhe to keep order in the courts, it is now more often used to uphold protocol. There are still some however, who misuse this restricted art. It may only be learned by the Nobles.. usually.

Tuatha De Danaan - The first of the Faeries, their founders. Just as Caine sired the line of Vampires, these were the first of their kind. Whether they created the rest of the Faerie race or the exact happenstance of it, is relatively unknown.

Undoing, the - Temporarily forgetting one's Faerie nature, despite what anyone may tell you. During the undoing, no Fae may see into the chimerical world, nor will they understand anything about it. This is cured by an infusion of glamour from another Changeling.
