Purple Tornado [A+] Where posted: ASS, ASSM When posted: 4/4/98 Author: David Lawrence This story was part fiction, part memoir, and details what happens when the narrator meets a beautiful golf-playing female oddball who's constantly pushing the societal envelope: "I find other women do not like her, despise her in fact, mostly. She has few true friends, though she is incredibly friendly. The price you pay, I suppose, when you make your own rules and flaunt the unspoken and unwritten rules of others, however innocently. True freedom is an ugly sight to the self-enslaved." The story then gives an overview of their capricious affair. I couldn't quite call this a sex story, as the sex acts weren't given the emphasis--the play of personalities was. Still, it was well-written and unusual, a little "purple" in places (prosewise that is) but making up for it in its exuberant prose and wry, sweet nostalgia. And I loved that title. If you want me to review your story, it helps to have an unusual title. "A Day at the Beach" or "Underage Babysitter" just doesn't cut it.
