Several moments away, the stones of the Castle were lit with
festive torches and lanterns. A fine spread of food and drink had been
set in the courtyard beneath the walls, and even though the stone looked
gloomy usually, tonight the air was filled with a festive feeling.

Standing on a stoney perch, Bronx was scanning the skies around the
Castle, occasionally sniffing the night winds and giving off quiet coos
of worry.

Coming up behind him, Lexington trooped on the stones and lept up
beside his fellow Gargoyle - who at times like this, acted more canine
that Gargoyle - giving him a reassuring pat on the head.

"Worried about the other, huh boy? I am too. I hope the twins like
the gifts we made for them."

"I'm sure they will, Lex." commented Brookyln, who was coming up
the stairwell to the parapet behind them. "Heaven knows you've spent
nearly every night for the past six months working on them." Brooklyn
was proud of his Rookery brother, proud of all of his fellow Clan for
the work they put in for this special night.

Tonight was the night of the twin's tenth birthday. A momentus
occasion at any rate, but as leader of the Clan, Brooklyn had offered a
special night of celebration for the twins: with food, music, and fun
for them, one and all. Preparations had taken nearly a month for the
final touches, and those were just now coming to and end. Broadway had
finally mastered some of the Human tasks of cooking, and was now below
putting the finishing touches on a huge birthday cake for the twins.

Lexington had offered to build a pair of special gifts for the
twins, while Hudson had offered to use his recently mastered skills at
writing to make some stories for the twins to read. Angela had
requsitioned some strange boxes of materials for her contribution, and
had worked on them in secret for months, but she assured Brooklyn and
the others that her gifts were now ready to be given.

Brooklyn shook his head privately. Gargoyles in the past had never
made such a fuss over birthing days. And anything a gargoyle owned -
clothing, trinkets, and the like - were more likely plunder from their
enemies and victims. But, he reasoned, time changes, and since part of
their extended family was now Human, certain Human customs had to be
adpoted.

"How long will it take Goliath, Elisa and the twins to get here?"
Lexington asked, looking over his shoulder at Brooklyn, breaking into
his revery.

"As long as it takes for Goliath to fly them over from their home.
Remember, he has to carry three people, now. I'm going to check on
Hudson. Keep an eye out for Xanatos and his family, and for another...
guest that he invited."

     "Which guest is that?"

Turning to go below, Brooklyn shrugged, "He said we'd know them
when they arrived."

                      *                           *

In the kitchen below, Broadway was putting the final touches on his
masterpiece: a large, two-tier layer cake, smeared with white icing, and
colored with dots and swirls. He was puting on the writing that said,
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY! DAVID & JESSICA!," when the door to the kitchen opened
up, breaking his concentration.

"I'm almost ready! Boy, the twins are going to love this cake." he
exclaimed, extenting a taloned finger to take a taste of some of the
leftover frosting that was still in the mixing bowl he was using. "Yum!
Almost as much as I loved making it!"

A soft voice chuckled, "Well, let's never say you didn't love your
work, Broadway." Turning slowly, Broadway's eyes fell on Angela, who was
carrying a pair of long boxes under one arm, and a set of trays and
glasses on her other hand. Her usual attire was gone, replace with a
freshly-cleaned tunic-dress, strategically slit to allow her wings and
tail to protrude from the back. Her hair, usually gathered in a unrully
pony-tail down her back, was now groomed and twisted into a single long
braid that hung across one shoulder to hang down in front.

Gulping softly, Broadway nearly dropped the bowl he was holding,
but her quickly recovered it, asking, "I do, don't I? I mean... I love
doing things for the twins!"

Setting her trays down, Angela turned to study the cake and it's
design, even taking some of the frosting herself. Smiling, she
commented, "It's sweet, just as it's sweet of you to be doing this for
the twins." She stepped closer to the Husky Gargoyle, but Broadway
stepped back a bit.

"Aww, you don't have to say that, Angela.." he said, using a bout
of mock humility to cover up his slight embarasment, slightly
uncomfortable that he and Angela were alone.

Placing her packages down, she deftly retreived the mixing bowl
from Broadway's grasp, saying, "But, It's true! The twins are going to
love this! And, I know my father is going to be doubly pleased with you.
Just like I am now." With that she stepped in closer, and the big
Gargoyle back away, finally coming to rest against on of the large
freezers that stood next to the table.

"Angela, um... Please, you've got to understand!" he began. "I
mean, I apreaciate your, uh, sentiments, but I don't think it would be
far to the other.. I mean my Rookery brothers..."

Angela shushed him with a single finger, moving close so that her
lithe body was pressed against Broadway's. "Why wouldn't be fair? Father
said that I should pick whom I wanted, when the time was right. And now
I've decided. Lexington is busy with his gaggets and electronic-things,
and Brooklyn is so busy with being our leader, so here you are.."

Boradway tried to find someway to be what he thought was fair, "You
forgot about Hudson."

Angela made an amused face. "He's older that any of us, Broadway! I
may admire him, but no, I've made up my mind who I want. I want YOU!"

Broadway swallowed hard. "Angela, let's be serious, for a minute-"

She silenced him with a shake of her head, "No, YOU be serious! Why
can't you accept that I want you as a mate, and no amount of arguing is
going to make me change my mind? Haven't the nights we've spend together
in the past meant anything to you?"

Broadway stuck out his chin, stubornly. "Of course! But, Why choose
me over someone like Brookyln? He's the leader of our Clan now!"

Angela smirked, "Because while he is brave and all, he isn't as
sweet and kind as you. I remember when that last Hunter came after us
again, and tried to use the twins as bait to trick us into a deathtrap,
and it was YOU that shielded them from harm during the final battle,
even thought Elisa and Goliath were just as capable of protecting them."

Broadway blushed at this admiration. "We had to! Gargolyes always
protect their own."

"Well, if that is how you react to my Human Siblings, I can only
guess how you'd treat the child we'd bring into this world." Nearly
laughing at the shock in his eyes, she added, "Yes, I do want to had a
little gargoyle with you. Don't you think we could? Don't you think I'm
a fair enough prize for a mate, Broadway?" As she said this, she pulled
back, showing offer her sleek curves, flaunting her beauty before her
fellow Gargoyle.

Broadway could only sign in surrender. "Oh, Angela..." Taking her
into his brawny arms, he cuddled her up to his big chest, smiling into
her eyes.

Laughing softly, she surprised him once more by trying out
something her father told her that he and Elsia did, and she gave him a
soft kiss on his mouth. He stiffened briefly, then seemed to melt and
get all shivered.

"Oh, Angela, you win. You alway do, I guess"

Grinning, she squeezed him once, and then turned to retrieve her
packages. "Never forget that, Broadway. Now, hurry up and finish that
cake! Goliath and the others will be here soon!" Picking up her bundles,
she left the kitching, swishing her tail as she walked out the door
before pausing to give him a parting wink. (something she saw Elisa do
to Goliath many times).

Turning back to his work, Broadway could only smile at himself.
Well, maybe he thought it wasn't fair that Angela choose him over his
Rookery Brothers, but, then again as he remembered a bit of Human wisdom
that Hudson had once shown him, he agreed with it one-hundred percent.

     Sometimes life isn't fair.

The City of New York was fast approaching dusk.

Watching the sunset from their expanded home atop the old
brownstone building, Elisa DeGuy sat on the open patio in a wing-backed
chair with a smile of contentment. It was momments like this that made
her happy to be alive. With her new promotion as Cheif of Dectectives,
and her marriage to her husband going on ten years strong, and getting
stronger with ever passing day, she felt that she had all she could ever
want in this world.

Sipping a warm cup of coffee to ward of the fast-approaching autumn
chill, she continued to watch the oncoming sunset in silence. Briefly,
she heard the doors to her home open, and a presense crossed the roof to
her side. A warm arm encircled her shoulders in a loving squeeze, and
she slipped her hand up to give it an affectionate squeeze in return.

"Hmmm, How are the kids?" she asked, tilting her head back to smile
up at her husband.

"They are nearly ready for their visit, Elisa." Goliath DeGuy said,
returning her smile with one of his own. "I suspect they have been ready
all week for this reunion."

"They should be," Elisa replied, putting her cup down to stand next
to Goliath. "After all, it isn't every day they get to meet their
favorite relatives. Although I can't help but wonder why Xanatos wanted
to be there."

Goliath shruged. "What ever his reasons, I'm sure Xanatos won't
disturb the importance of this day. After all, with out him, I'm not
sure we could have found a way to explain my sudden appearance in your
life."

Wrapping her arms around him, Elisa gave one of her half-smiles at
that bit of information. "True. Although I trusted Mom and Derek not to
go too balistic when We both showed up at the 20 year family reunion,
married, and with the twins, I'm not too sure everyone else didn't. I
know for a fact Matt tried to track your `history' down, but I thank God
that Xanatos' people know their business."

Goliath returned her hug, holding her close. "It is a shame that we
won't be really together until dawn tommorow." he sighed.

"Don't worry. Tonight is the night for YOUR family. We'll spend our
time afterwards." she told him, giving him smile that was full of
promise and love.

Just then, the doors burst open again, and both adults turned in
their embrace to smile at the two children that came barreling out onto
the roof.

"Momma! Poppa! We're all ready to go to see Uncle Brooklyn and the
others!" the little girl was shouting, coming up to grab Goliath's leg
before her rush carried her off the roof. At ten-years old, Jessica was
becoming a very precocious lady. Blessed with her mother's honey-tan
skin, raven-black hair (cut recently in a pageboy style), and her
father's intense eyes, she was going to be a real beauty when she was
older.

"Da! It's almost sunset! Are you going to do that `magic' again?"
asked her brother, David, who was more like his father in manerisms at
times, but tonight he was caught up in the excitement of this night.
Like his sister, his skin was tan, but his eyes were a vibrant green -
much like one of Elisa's grandparents - and had dark brown hair rather
that black. Both twins were dressed in matching leather jackets and
pants, with leather walking boots: Jessie's in white, David's in Red.

Goliath checked the position of the sun, and gave another heavy
sigh. "Yes, David. I have to change soon, so you and your sister need to
step back" Bending down, he gave each child a hug that crushed the two
of them to him (albeit gently), before he straightened up to give Elisa
one last wuick embrace.

Kissing Goliath lightly on the lips, Elisa stepped back, taking
each of the twin's hands to lead them back a safe distance. Even though
the twins had seen their father change several times, Elisa still knelt
beside them, whispering words of encouragement as the sun began to dip
behind the horizon.

"Don't worry, kids. Daddy is going to be fine."

As usual, the first twinges of pain came only after he made the
concious thought to change, just as the sun began it's departure away
from the night. Then the pain grew, as his entire body began to shift
and twist as organs changed, bones lengthened and grew thicker, and
skin changed from rich tan to smoky purple. His back humped and
expanded, as the protuberances that grew out into wings unfurled and
spread, while a long tail sprouted from his tailbone out. Claws spread
from his fingers and toes, and teeth merged and lengthened into jagged
rows with distinctive canines.

Even as before, Goliath tried to contain his agony, but the pain
was always too great, and he bellowed out in a roar that could be heard
from Flushing in Queens, to the Bronx Heights. But, thankfully, it was
never long in staying. Eventually, he calmed down long enough to gather
the shreaded remains of his clothes before donning his usual attire as a
Gargoyle - A modified breechclout and tunic, cinched with his old
leather belt with the brass buckle.

Once the transformation was complete, he turned to face Elisa and
the twins, who waited patiently for him to finish with his changing.
Once, when he had to do this with only Elisa present - before the twins
were born - he didn't fear her reaction to his changing. However, he
tried to keep his changes secret from his Human children for the longest
time, until David and Jessica caught him doing it when they were just
turned four years old. Thanks to Elisa's patient explinations about
Puck's spell - and thanks to their inherited intelligence and
understanding - the twins quckly lost their fear for his `magic' form.
They even considered it their special Secret, even long after they met
the other members of their extended "Family".

Elisa, bringing the twins, stepped up to Goliath, her eyes slightly
misty as she gazed on his Gargoyle form. This was the form that she had
know so well, even though it was his Human-like heart and soul that she
had fallen in love with from the ver start.

"Up you go, kids! Time for us to go meet with the others." she told
them, watching as David and Jessie scrambled into Goliath's outstreatched
arms as he knelt to gather them to him. Stepping up behind him, she
climb up his back, hooking her arms around his shoulders as she made
sure not to get caught in his wings.

Once the twins were settled, clinging gleefully to his arms, and
Elisa was secure on his back, Goliath stepped up to the edge of the
roof, throwing his wings out to catch the night winds bafore stepping
off.

"Is everyone ready?" he asked, smiling first at Jessie, then David,
and finally Elisa. When he got three affirmative nods, he said, "Okay,
hold on tight! Here we GO!" With that he stepped off, diving into the
wind with the happy shreiks of the twins echoing off the buildings
around them, catching the first updraft and riding it into the night.

Next stop, the Castle on top of Xanatos' Tower.

               *               *               *

From a rooftop away, three sets of eyes watched the departure of
Goliath and his family for as long as it took for them to get out of
sight, then they vansished into thin air without a trace. A lingering
trio of voices could be heard, if anyone was there to listen, saying:

"The die is cast/The Players are new/Let the Quest be given/
and let those that can, Do!"

Hello, Peg Leg Dukk Here again...

Hopefully, you have enjoyed my previous story about the Gargoyles
"The Gift", so I hope that you will enjoy the sequal story I have
tenatively called "Generation Quest"

This story kind of ties in the end of my story, and that of another
user's story entitled "Passions" - where we saw that Demona and MacBeth
buried their anamosities and decided to love one another for all time,
even having a child (thanks to aid from the Weyrd Sisters) - and this
story focuses on the next generation of the characters: the children of
three of the major character pairings. Of course I mean Xanatos and
Fox's son, Elisa and Goliath's children (yes, I said children), and
Demona and MacBeth's Child.

Once again, this story is only based on the Disney characters, and is
not intended for sale for profit or gain of any type. It is only for
enjoyment by adults, since I will be using adult situations in the
telling. It may only be D/loaded for archival purposes.

Please let me know how this story is received, and all comments and
questions are well accepted. I can't send any email-copies, due to my
low knowledge of this email server. Thank you for your time, and keep
watching for the entire story...
