Wolves
by Belgae Silverfang (belgae.silverfang@vandora.org)

***

Imagine, if you will two wolves steeped in the lore of
what is known today as the Native American. Add a little
fantasy to the element, and you have this tale. (MF,
rom, fantasy)

***

The huge silver wolf trotted into the forest, aware that
the black was following her. An ear flicked as she heard
and felt his presence. Her tail rose slightly as she
quickened the pace, sure he was going to keep up.

A scent caught her nostrils and she paused to be sure of
its direction, then off again at the trot she went,
leading the black wolf deeper into the woods.

At a small clearing, Belgae sat on her haunches and
allowed Wolf to catch up with her, coming to sit by her
side. She smiled wolfishly at her companion, her eyes
speaking of deep things to him.

Quietly, she began a calling song to the buck just out
of sight in the forest. When the buck appeared, she
thanked it for coming to feed her, and quickly
dispatched the animal with grabbing it by the throat and
snapping its neck with her jaws. She stood over the buck
and howled an honor song for the deer's spirit, thanking
it again for its willing sacrifice so that others could
eat.

Gazing now at the shiny black furred wolf, she finally
spoke.

"Will you share this meal with me? We will save a haunch
and take it back to the inn later, when we have eaten
our fill. Full bellies make better talk."

She quietly walked over to him and licked his muzzle,
bumping her shoulder against his gently in a sign of
friendship. The two ate, side by side, filling one
physical need they had. When they were done, the silver
one stepped away from the carcass and lay in the
clearing.

"I am glad you decided to follow me, For I truly did not
wish to leave you behind, honor dictated to me I must.
Your choice to follow was your own, and a welcome one to
me." She grinned as her tail thumped the ground,
scattering some of the fallen leaves.

"I will be truthful to you. I have need of a mate, pure
and simple, but I cannot, will not, take what is not
freely given. I would share your bedding place, would
share knowledge between my sky-wolf clan and your earth
bound one in order to promote better understanding
between the two peoples. It is said in the histories
this must happen. Once a mating is chosen, gifts between
the two clans will be exchanged. You would gain the
ability to fly on wings as I do, and I would gain some
of your gifts. Thus the differences between the clans
are lessened, become more understandable to the others,
the balance restored.

"I know this is hard to understand, but I was drawn to
the inn with a certainty I will not explain to you right
now. Suffice it to say that until you are certain, I
cannot speak entirely with my heart. Hetka eloe etay - I
have spoken, it is so."

With that, she placed her muzzle upon her paws, ready to
listen to his speech. The revelations she gave him
enough to destroy if he so wished.

"You were hurt, and it was not a physical pain... worse
yet, I felt that I had caused it. I was not willing to
let you disappear, feeling that way towards me. I am a
healer, and it is not just the body that needs care. As
a healer, the worst thing I can imagine is causing pain!
He settled back, glancing towards the sky, and taking
stock before he spoke again. He needed the words to
follow to be JUST RIGHT, and as the words came again,
his gaze was far away... a different time, a different
place...

"As for the other part of your message, I understand
your pragmatism in your need for a mate, and I
appreciate your honesty. You deserve that much honesty
in return, and that is why you sense my hesitation. I
have been wounded and made heart-sore by one I thought
would be my life-mate, one I thought was my soul-mate,
and it has left me distrustful of others offering
beautiful words and unconditional love. I need time to
chase away the demons of my past, before I can ever
think of my future..."

The winged one's eyes softened with emotion as she edged
closer to the ebony wolf. A wingtip stretched across his
back as she nudged his neck with her muzzle. Drawing his
furry head down onto her own forepaws, she laid her head
gently over his neck. A rumbling sigh escaped her lungs
as she gathered her thoughts.

"Would that I could snap my jaws and devour those demons
that cause you pain, for I could... if you would but
think the idea to me. We all have demons, in our pasts,
our presents, and most likely in our futures also. If
you allow your past to consume your present, then the
hurtful one has won. What a hollow victory it is, but a
victory none the less. There be no honor in it, no coups
to be awarded. Those victors should hang their muzzles
in shame for causing such pain to one of our kind!"

She growled her frustration, silver hackles half rising
at the thought of the injustices.

"I once was very much like yourself. Afraid to reach out
again after losing my first mate. He was killed
instantly in a accident, our beta and best friend
crippled in the hindquarters for what remained of his
short life after the accident.

"My second fared better, decided to hunt in deeper woods
for better game. He left the pack, turned his back on
our ways. I would be better off if he too was dead. He
did mate myself, a respected alpha. I brought him into
the clan, and he shamed me beyond words. My pack then
thought my judgment faulty, choosing such an inferior
mate. They have drifted away and will only acknowledge
me when they must."

Her eyes misted a bit, almost tearing, but as wolves
have no ducts for those type of tears, none actually
appeared. Idly, she washed his ears in a conciliatory
manner, seeking to console herself, yet wishing to ease
his anguish in turn.

"There is a dead place in my heart for both. One I
remember with gladness and grief, the other remembered
with bitterness and pain. I think, perhaps, we need one
another. If not as mates yet, then as companions, most
certainly friends. Allow me to offer solace, and grant
me such in return. Tis all I ask for now."

She caught his eyes with her own, gazing into them as
she continued.

"We are Lupine, different in our paths, yet very similar
in our lives. There was a reason that our trails
crossed, our scents mingled. Would we run a trail side
by side, or should we run apart, run our own trails
alone? At least with the former, we could offer each
other protection, with the latter, we have no pack, and
lone wolves are vulnerable to attack by a multitude of
enemies."

Again, she awaited his reply, her head filled with
thoughts all in a jumbled state.

Friends, definitely... companions, perhaps... but at
this time, I am not ready for a mate. My wounds still
have not healed enough to even THINK of such matters! In
time, maybe...? His gaze drifted off, in a day-dreamy
look, and he could not or would not speak again for
several minutes.

"Well, I shall not let the demons have you if I can help
it, my friend. You are far too worthy to live in your
past, but healing time is nigh... and it starts this
moment!"

Suddenly she bounded to her paws with a gleam in her
eye. The silver one pounded the ground in front of him
with her forelegs in a playful gesture, tearing around
into the forest only to bounce back down in front of him
again. She grinned broadly at him, her tongue lolling
out the side of her muzzle.

"Come on then, Let us not sit here all night and be
depressed. The time is here for action! No need for the
melodramatic all the time, eh? Time for play!"

She pranced around him comically, darting in every so
often to gently tug on his tail, or nibble at his ears.
Growling fiercely in play, she leaned down on her
forelegs before the ebony wolf, her own silver tail
wagging vigorously above her head.

The black wolf just could not help himself but to
chuckle at his friend's silly antics.

He found himself unable to resist play any longer. Being
a social animal, he'd missed having a friend to play
with, even more than he thought. His pack had scattered
far and wide, some chasing their own trails, others (he
feared) chased off for the time being by his own pain.
Some alpha he was...well, maybe it was just about time
to go find his pack members, and get it all back
together again. But for now, it was time to have some
fun!

He leapt at her, feigning a snarl...snapping at her, but
not TOO hard. He chased her around the glen, she chased
him, leaping and tumbling like a couple of overgrown
pups. He laughed so hard it was hard to keep his breath,
but he didn't mind a bit...

Overjoyed, the great silver wolf romped with the ebony.
The pair became a blur of bodies as they tumbled about
in the clearing. Belgae bounded past him, nipping his
shoulder as she ran.

"TAG! You are IT!" She gleefully spoke, racing into the
woods.

The massive black one had no trouble catching up, indeed
nearly collided into her from the rear as she stopped
quickly. He had no choice but to pounce on her from
behind, grabbing her neck playfully in his powerful
jaws.

"You should not DO such to me, it may have unpredictable
consequences!" His grinning face brightened.

The two Lupines stood, muzzle to muzzle, each staring
intently at the other. Both were panting heavily with
the chase, tongues lolling, eyes locked to the other.
With a wolfish smile, Bel padded softly past his nose,
raising her tail at the last second to give him a good
whiff of her scent. It filled his nostrils, going
straight to his head. On an instinctive impulse, he
lapped at the source of the scent with his tongue.

Instantly, Belgae turned and rubbed herself back along
the length of his body to playfully grab one of his ears
with her fangs. Her tail held high now, her low gutteral
growl filling his hearing. She released his ear to walk
beneath his neck, molding herself to his chest, and
giving him another heady scent as she caressed the other
side of his body. She prodded his tummy with her own
muzzle, stretching her tongue across a sensitive area.

Perhaps it is not such a repulsive consideration? Her
mind speak was soft. We both have needs, it would be
most mutually satisfying, would it not? Who could say
this is not right for us? Surely neither can deny...

Slowly the pair of wolves turned around each other,
nostrils quivering with each other's scent so strong now
the entire forest seemed to quiet with the intensity of
the wolves.

A soft howl escaped the silver female as the huge ebony
wolf mounted, his own howl mixing with hers in strange
melodic harmony.

He began a slow thrusting, grunting with each spasm of
his muscular body, his forepaws locked around his
female's hip joints for more penetration. The tip of his
pointed penis found its own way into the inner sanctum,
probing, searching for release.

Belgae beneath him growled deep in her throat, her fangs
bared in a terrible face, as if to scare off any who
would disturb their mating. She could feel him deep
inside her body, his long wolf member swelling with
every thrust, becoming huge as he drove into her. Silver
fur blended with black as she braced all four paws, her
hips lifting to his, urging him deeper, harder.

Wolf seized her neck in a ferocious bite, using the
leverage to pound his stiff cock harder into Belgae, his
own growls becoming more intense with every stroke.
Suddenly he broke through her to the object of his
quest. As his penis entered her womb, it began to
engorge itself with sperm. It filled her tightly as her
own muscles clamped upon it. Her insides stroked him,
feeling him, wanting his release.

The moment she felt his throbbing wolf cock's head
attach itself to the inside of her womb, her throat
thrummed with the wolf song. Fill me, mate me, the
circle of life continues, yes! Our cubs will grow strong
and we will be proud, the wolf song sang to him, filling
his being as his thrusting penis swelled to a climax.
Hot jets of his seed spurted into the chasm, filling her
with his desire. He lifted his great head as a joyous
howl emerged from the depths of his soul.

Her own howl rose with his as the two wolves merged into
one. The harmonies were beautiful as the two sang out,
and she felt his cock jerking mightily as his steaming
sperm drove into her. The muscles in her vagina gently
caressed him, milking every drop from him he could give.

Unsteady on her paws now, the beautiful silver slowly
eased herself to the floor of the forest. The act
allowed the handsome male a chance to take the weight
off his hindquarters as the two, bonded together, lay
down.

She could still feel him, hard inside her, his erection
to take a long time to ebb. Belgae craned her neck
around so that she might take in his gaze. Her desire
and more evident in her features, she washed his face
gently with her tongue, smiling as his eyes closed and a
happy sigh escaped from his mouth.

*

Quite some time later, the two lupines parted, desire
and needs sated for the time being. They trotted off to
the stream for a much needed drink of the cool water.

As Bel lowered her head to drink, she watched him from
the corner of her eye. She reveled in this new found
companion, and hoped that tonight's mating would bring a
closer friendship to them both. It was needed by one,
desired by the other, and mandatory most likely to their
survival.

She padded over to him and he raised his muzzle from the
water. The silver one caringly licked the droplets from
his lips and chin.

"There were no demons of the past this eve, were there?"
Slyly smiled her eyes. "There were only the two of us,
and no room for them to get in."

He nodded, emotions running too high to speak, even
through his mind to her. She understood, and nudged him
in friendship.

"Shall we gather the haunch we hid earlier, and take it
to the others at the inn, or shall we stay here, in the
forest the rest of the night, and return in the morning?
There is one thing I would like to do before we
return... one small request..."

Her form shimmered in the moonlight, fur melting into
skin. Her soft doeskins draped over her shapely humanoid
form. Her eyes speaking for her heart, she held out her
arms to him.

"Come, Wolf of my Heart. Let us hold each other and cry
no more. Tonight there is joy within us."

*

He'd never Shifted before another before, and he had to
admit a certain reluctance. Her change had come so
softly, apparently without the slightest trouble or
pain. His mind reached back to the first few Shiftings,
and he shuddered, recalling the agony. Then, the loss of
control he used to suffer, Shifting at inopportune
moments. It had taken him quite a while to gain the
mastery over his change, so that there was no longer any
pain, and complete control. Part of him wanted to duck
into the shadows to Shift, another part realized that
she had done the same, after all, why hide it?

Internal battle, he thought darkly. It's almost a way of
life for me. In the end, he decided that it couldn't
hurt for another who shape shifts to see him do it, and
he shrugged lupine shoulders as he willed the change.
Perhaps because she Shifted too, she could actually HEAR
the sound of drums beating softly in the background,
rattles keeping time. His tail retracted, as the fur
shivered and shrank away. His muzzle sank back into a
man's face, eyes changing back to human colors... bones
popping, and re-arranging into a man's form.

He felt the adrenaline wearing off, and a wave of sleep
washing over him, as he sat down next to her, gently
putting her head on his chest. "WOLF-Who-Cries," he
offered, holding her for a nap.

She smiled at the handsome one, now back to his human
self, as he sat down beside her. Sighing happily in his
embrace, she felt protected and secure.

Belgae realized what a gift he had given her in offering
his name, she knew that among the earth-wolf clans it
was not given lightly. She wondered how he had come into
it, speculating perhaps it was because of the pain she
felt within him.

"Wolf-Who-Cries," She whispered softly to him as she
snuggled closer to his chest, "Would that I dry those
tears in your soul and bring a smile to it one day." She
stretched to kiss him gently and he drew her to him,
deepening the kiss, savoring the moment.

Her wings shimmered into existence and she quietly
wrapped them around her and Wolf for warmth in the
frosty air.

"Your shifting causes no pain to you?" He asked.

"No, not at all. We are born with the ability to reform
our shapes, to mold the Star Fire into other forms. It
causes no pain. Our power to do so is weak when we are
young. It is hard to hold the forms for very long. As we
grow older, our ability to control more of the Star Fire
increases, we learn to shape ourselves into more forms
for longer time," Belgae explained.

Her gaze returned to his face to find his eyes had
finally closed in slumber. She closed her wings tighter
around them both and snuggled closer to hug his waist.

As she chanted softly, a shield of protectiveness hid
the two from detection as they slept.

*

The morning sun melted the frost away as it rose, and
the chirping of birds woke the two with their singing.
Belgae stretched, answering the birds with her own
morning song. As she finished the last verse, Wolf came
to stand behind her and nuzzled her neck.

They watched the sunrise together, one holding the other
in an embrace that spoke of friendship deepening.

After performing the morning ceremonies, the pair walked
back to the inn hand in hand, the haunch of deer in a
large pouch held over Wolf's shoulder.
