In ancient Rome gladiator games were highly popular. The
new imperator Caligula was one of most feared dictators
the world became to know. He loved deadly, bloody
gladiator games. The games began in the morning with
animal hunts and Christian burnings and found their
height at sundown, when the gladiators walked in the
Circus Maximus to stroke their swords and spears into
each other's flesh...
I may introduce me now... my name is Maximus... I am a
gladiator for about three years now. Once I was living
in a small village in Germanicus. Germanicus is, as is
every part of Europe, inhabited by Romans.
I was captured when I was trying to kill a roman
centurion who wanted to rape a woman of my village. I
sliced his rotten body up with my knife but I was
outclassed by a troop of Romans coming by. I had another
name back then but I can't recall it anymore... it all
seems so long gone... I was chained and sold to a slave
ring and finally became trained as a gladiator.
At first I was deported to Africa, to Algeria... the
small thing compared the Circus in Rome. I was always
talented with the sword and the training there in Africa
sharpened my talents and my instinct to kill. I even
learned to kill slowly to amuse the masters and that's
why I despise myself... but I'm drifting...
There in Algeria I got to know the woman who should be
my lonely love, my design for life, my essence, the
reason why I lived. She was born in a place I think they
call now Lebanon, but soon traveled to Gallicum and was
deported to Algeria for killing her husband, a Roman
centurion, too, who did not treat her well... so we had
something in common. She was trained to be a gladiatrix,
which was the newest, hottest thing over there in
Rome... and her name, as sweet as herself, was Rachel...
The moment we met I'll never forget ever... I was doing
practice with wooden stakes and swords when she arrived
together with other women, soon to be gladiatrices...
our eyes matched for a second and I was captured and
thrilled by her beauty... I saw a blink in her eyes and
then a wooden sword hit me painfully in my belly...
"You're dead, Maximus, why are you sleeping?" my
gladiator-friend Demetrius laughed. "You shouldn't look
at those women... you know that we're never allowed to
touch them. Come on, get ready again!"
I grabbed my sword again and looked again at Rachel, but
she and all the other women had already been brought to
their dark chambers. I couldn't forget her face and if
my intuition wasn't wrong I remarked a certain reaction
in her face, too.
For some time we only saw each other during our walk to
the training or when we were transported to various
little arenas. I wasn't wrong as she constantly smiled
at me when our eyes met. I was already fallen in love.
My informants told me that she was the best gladiatrix
around and it was said that I was the best gladiator,
too, which gave us both some preferences which others
didn't have. We were seen as being sort of "valuable" to
our masters as we could be sold one day to Rome for a
high price.
One day I begged my master as being offered one night my
love Rachel. I just had thought a wild, furious round at
a small arena over the ruins of Carthago and my master
was very pleased with me as I defeated and sliced the
best gladiator from one of his worst slave trader
opponents... I was given my pleasure...
I was brought to a small, dark chamber which carried
nothing more than a small window and an old bed. I was
told to wait. Meanwhile the moon had risen above the sky
and a small red planet, which is now known as the Mars,
right beneath him. The mars shined a bit of red and I
had never seen this planet before. I was interrupted
staring at the sky when the lock of the door was
removed... Rachel walked in, wearing an old dress,
barefoot and surely not knowing what was awaiting her.
It was dark and she couldn't see while my eyes were
already adapted to the darkness by the moonlight.
"Rachel..." I said.
"Maximus?" She sounded surprised, well surprised... "How
did you arrange this?" I could see her smile... oh, what
a delight!
"You know about my victory today and I asked Tiberius
for the pleasure of your assistance tonight".
"And so asked to meet me?" she asked.
"Yes, as I have never seen a woman more beautiful than
you..." I mumbled, my heart was beating madly.
She didn't answer.
"I love you," I whispered.
"I know."
Silence.
After a while I asked "And you?"
"Well, don't you know? Didn't you notice how my eyes
swallowed your body?"
I sighed. I became aroused.
She slipped of her dress. She was completely naked. The
moonlight bathed her slim body in silver. Her small
breasts showed erect nipples pointing towards me. Her
breath became faster. She came over me. I put my arms
around her... kissed her gently... she opened her mouth
and our tongues greeted themselves for the first time.
She tasted so sweet, her body was full of live. And as
we united, I knew I was at home... there was my destiny.
As the dawn crawl into the next day we had promised each
other. We would fight and we would kill... we would kill
to be free one day.
The next weeks were wonderful. I loved seeing Rachel
fight in the arena. I was not afraid of her. Her skills
and her talent were outrageous. We had very similar
techniques. We were both not that strong and muscle-
packed like other gladiators and gladiatrices. I had
learned pretty soon that no muscle could match steel.
Rachel and I were moving fast, we followed a strategy of
weaken, tiring our enemies. We both started many fake
attacks and then moved back fast.
The swords and the other weapons were heavy, so our
opponents soon became burned out... tired... then we
took our chance to kill them with an exact blow of the
sword... or, as Rachel did, with a spear.
One day Tiberius called me to tell me great news...
Rachel and myself were chosen to go to Rome, to fight in
the great Circus Maximus. We both were thrilled, as we
knew that if we survived, one day they would let us free
from slavery and become honored roman citizens.
Rome was a magnificent city... the market displayed
fruits and animals I've never seen before in my life.
All was very healthy there. The city of the empire. Not
that we saw the market often as we had to stay in our
catacombs and at our training fields but once in a while
we were given a few hours to walk around and taste the
sweet things they offered there.
Rachel and me were hired as the first gladiator couple
and the Roman civilians seemed to love that. The
gladiators and gladiatrices there were strong,
dangerous, wild and no match compared with the poor meat
over there in Africa. But Rachel and me had given us a
promise... the promise not to die out there in the
Arena. If we would die one day, it should be together.
The thought of living a life without her was
unthinkable. A life without my love would be
meaningless.
To our luck we became popular very quickly and so we did
not have to fight and conquer the champions. The male
champion was called Imperatus and the rumor was spread
that he was set to be free soon. The female champion was
a woman from Germanicus, like me. Her name was
Annabella. I met her a few times and she didn't care at
all that we came from the same country.
Her eyes were empty, no emotion displayed on her face,
even when she left the arena after a vicious slaughter.
We had a good time in Rome and felt invulnerable. Our
love kept us alive and together. But there was a certain
feeling of discomfort that haunted me. Something told me
that we had only a limited time left. That something
dangerous and dreadful waited along the line. And soon I
had to learn that I was right.
One day Tiberius called me in. His face was dark,
sinister.
"Sit down, Maximus," he said in a low voice. I did as I
was told.
"You know that next month there are the games for the
gods of Rome?" I nodded. Everybody talked about it and
it was sure that Caligula would give his people
outrageous games for this special event.
"Maximus... you and Rachel are chosen to fight that
day." I nodded. I had not expected anything else. "Your
opponents are Imperatus and Annabella."
I swallowed dryly. "When they win, they will be set
free."
I could not take breath. A fight for freedom meant it
was a fight without mercy. A gladiator who was about to
be set free had to kill in his last fight... no mercy,
no thumbs-up, a fight to the death. Tiberius went on,
"Caligula claimed it first Champions vs. Lovers but
decided to call it now different. The event is called
now ARENA OF LUST. It is the highlight of the games and
will take place during sundown on the last day of the
games."
I was frozen.... Imperatus and Annabella... no, not
those two... I closed my eyes, everything was black. As
I opened them again I looked Tiberius straight in the
face and said with a firm voice... "We will study them,
learn their movements, their tactics... and on that
day... we will kill them."
I stood up and left. Tiberius smiled. I didn't. The
words sounded believable for him but I was not sure, I
was not sure at all.
Rachel, my love didn't share my dark thoughts... "So,
what?" she asked me, "If they kill us, we will both
die... die together... being forever united in the
eternity". She embraced me, kissed me.
She was right. I calmed down. If we had to die then it
was the best for both of us to be killed within moments
from each other.
Tiberius managed that we could spent all following
nights together before one week of the combat. He told
me it would not be wise to let us stay together all the
time. "If you see her for the last time one week before
the event, all your strength and your love will be
spared for that evening. Your desire for her will be
greater than ever before and hence, you will fight like
never before."
He paused, looked me straight in the eyes.
"Maximus, you're my best gladiator... but I'm afraid you
have no chance at all. The only thing which will keep
you alive is the thought and your love for Rachel. So I
hope you understand my decision." I nodded. I understood
him perfectly and my affection for Tiberius grew. I had
never thought that be could become my friend. Well, he
was... now.
The last night Rachel and I spent together was exactly
one week before our challenge at the great Circus. We
made passionate love, gentle, softly. My tongue kissed
every part of her delicious body. We had the desire to
melt our bodies with each other and the passion finally
overwhelmed us. Lust was born out of gentleness, the
touches and grips became harder.
My spear of flesh started ramming into her secret mouth
harder... and harder. Our breaths and heartbeats grew
faster and faster. The lust became unbearable and then
we exploded, melted our bodies and our souls in
pleasure. We faded out of the blue, into the black and
into the light. All our senses were firing wildly.
We screamed.... and finally met us again at the ground
of silence. All said, all done, bound together... we
would be together... we would live or we would die... it
wouldn't matter anymore.
The problem with Imperatus was that he was taller, much
more muscled and even faster in his moves than me. His
moves were unpredictable. We kind of shared the same
style but he fought for nearly a decade. I was an
apprentice only, a rookie. He was the master.
Annabella was slim, skinny, tall and yet very strong.
She was a master with the sword and the knife. She
simply crushed spears or clubs with her sword to pieces
and Rachel was best with a spear. Yet I believed Rachel
was fast and clever enough to match her out. I prayed, I
hoped.
It was a thing not to be outspoken... the moment one of
us dies, the other would lay down the weapon and offered
himself to be killed, too. We were told that the fights
would be simultaneously, not one other the other.
Caligula wanted a spectacle Rome had never seen before.
I can't remember the night and the day before the fight
clearly. I found no sleep at night. It was hot and I
missed my love, I had not seen for about a week. A full
moon lighted my little chamber and I couldn't stop
thinking about the next day. My thoughts moved to
Rachel, always to Rachel.
The day wouldn't go away either. I'd trained in the
morning a bit and at afternoon I was deported to the
catacombs of the Circus. I was undressed and oiled-up,
as usual. I was told to wait. Nothing happened. I could
hear the spectacle above my head somewhere. I heard the
crowds roar. The games seemed to be good.
Finally the guides arrived.
"It is time now" a Centurio said with a somber voice.
"Where's my shields and my dress?" I wondered.
"No dress, no shield, only your sword."
That surprised me. I never fought naked before, but it
looked like Caligula knew what he wanted exactly. I was
guided to the big door of the Circus which lead to the
Arena. I could hear the ceremony-master's voice as he
introduced me.
"Citizens of Rome, the Emperor Caligula is proud to
present you the ultimate battle of the games... THE
ARENA OF LUST."
The crowd roared again. My nerves stringed. My throat
was dry. I felt adrenaline being pumped through my
veins.
"Here is Maximus!"
The door opened and I stepped into the Arena. A smell of
blood and rotting flesh filled the air. It was near
sundown. I glimpsed an edge of an orange sun, blinding
me for a moment. I raised my sword and greeted the
audience and the Emperor. I could see how the sand was
drenched red from the previous games of this day. It was
still hot and the sand felt comfortable under my feet.
There was an extra roar when the crowd noticed I was
naked and I heard the giggling of some Roman women. I
stood there. I was the first. The procedure was always
the same. The least preferred gladiator came out first
and this time it was I. I had hoped for some benefit
having the crowd behind me but it looked like I was only
an extra this time. Dispensable. Rachel and me.
We were too young, to new to be famous... but good and
liked enough to play the prey today. Imperatus and
Annabella were deserved to win today... not the two of
us. We had the bad luck of being lovers, making this
game so special.
Then came to my surprise... Annabella. She was naked,
too, wearing only her sword and a knife, bent on her
left leg in a shield. She was a beauty, no question, but
her hard face without emotions somehow made her ugly.
She had long, blonde hair, bend together. Her little
breasts swung as she marched quickly next to me, not
offering me a single look.
I didn't exist in her world. I felt the sudden urge to
stab my sword into her ribs, right through her skinny
body but that wouldn't have changed anything. But the
thought alone let me feel lust, bloodlust... and lust
for my love Rachel.
There she came... as she was announced, all hell broke
lose. She was much more greeted by the audience as me or
Annabella before. I was delighted... she had the crowd
behind her.
My love was stark naked, her spear firmly in her hands.
Her body shined golden in the last drops of sunlight.
Her dark hair was bend together, too, and her grace
turned the Arena to a wonderful place. Her firm breasts
were swollen, her nipples were erect. She smiled at me
and I was overwhelmed with insatiable lust for her.
My manrod raised and the crowd cheered. I noticed it
only somewhere back in my mind. Rachel went next to
Annabella and as she was at my line, she looked at me
and whispered, "I love you." My heart made a jump and a
crush in a second. Rachel appeared infallible. I was
sure she would win.
My thoughts were brutally disrupted by the announcement
of Imperatus and the crowd got berserk. I never had
heard such a noise before. He looked gorgeous, a sword
in his hands. Flowers filled the air, thrown from the
uncountable admirers of Imperatus.
When he stood beside me I glimpsed a look towards me. I
didn't decipher that look. It seemed strange. A little
sad... but happy... nevertheless... the look didn't
suite.
The fanfares of the trumpets filled the air. We four
stepped forward, raising our weapons to Caligula and
said our verse... "We, who are about to die... salute
you, Emperor of Rome!"
He nodded, stood up... and yelled "No mercy!" Only these
two words. The crowd mumbled, astonished, then cheering.
The last game of the games could begin. Blood would be
splattered, lives wasted.
I went to attack. I looked around to see what Rachel was
doing. A sudden "whoosh!" near my ear. The crowd roaring
the first time. Imperatus's sword nearly cut my ear off,
but he only scratched my shoulder. It didn't matter.
First blood was pouring. I was so surprised by this
attack that I felt no pain. I only looked for an eye-
blink at my shoulder and Imperatus saw his chance
immediately. I wondered why he hadn't kill me. He surely
had the chance.
"Don't dream!" He said to me. "Don't you ever dare to
dream in the Arena again!"
I understood the warning and nodded and yet, though...
why didn't he kill me? It was his chance for freedom!
The dream we all had. Why?
I raised my sword, holding it with both hands,
attacking. Imperatus moved back... very slightly. His
feet didn't seem to touch the ground below his bare
feet.
The crowd roared again... not because of us, something
else had happened. My love was greater than everything,
so I again looked around. I noticed blood dripping from
Annabella's leg. The spear of my love had hit her! What
a great gladiatrix I loved! I was to be envied.
I felt the elbow as it hit me right in the face. My nose
broke and blood sprayed. I fell on my back. I saw
nothing for a moment and the next thing I saw was a
sword rushing down on me. I turned over and the sword
only hit the sand.
"DON'T LOOK AT ME, YOU STUPID BOY!" Rachel screamed,
breathing heavily. Her voice wasn't angry, it was full
of fear.
I came to my feet again.
"Yeah, stupid boy," Imperatus mumbled.
"Why didn't you kill me?" I asked him.
"Not a good show" he murmured. Then the fight took on
again. This time Imperatus attacked, wielding his sword
rapidly around. I defended myself the best I could. As
our swords collided I thought his strength would break
my arms. The metallic sounds deafened my ears, the blood
tasted metallic, too, in my mouth. I couldn't hardly
breath anymore. The fight had just began and I was
exhausted. I moved away but Imperatus didn't lost my
track. He was always behind me.
Again the crowd roared and this time the scream I heard
was from Rachel. But this time I concentrated on myself.
Would it had been a vicious wounding the roaring would
have been much louder. Imperatus attacked again. This
time I was able to out pass him.
He hit next to me and I was able to kick him hard in the
belly. I tried to behead him as he fell but suddenly he
managed to kick my feet. I stumbled and fell, too,
unfortunately losing my sword. Not Imperatus. He stood
quick again, threatening me... I stood there without
weapons. He whirled his sword, I ducked, dived under him
and grabbed my sword again. The crowd applauded.
And again it was Imperatus to attack me. I felt like a
rabbit in the sight of a snake. He stood in front of me
but I could see what happened behind him. What I saw,
delighted me. Annabella attacked. Rachel moved left,
Annabella attacked to the left, Rachel quickly moved to
the right, pushing the spear forward into Annabella's
naked belly. Deep, very deep, she pulled it through her
slim body.
The bloodied end came off on Annabella's back. She stood
there like a pierced butterfly and when my love pulled
the spear out, she collapsed on the ground, streams of
blood soaking the sand. I immediately got an erection
from that sight. Oh, what a pleasure!
I screamed and didn't hear the crowd anymore. I blocked
Imperatus attack easily and as he raised his sword
again, high over his head, my sword slashed his belly
from left to right. I saw his surprised look as rivers
of blood and guts fell in the dust. He collapsed.
A death cry interrupted me and I saw how Rachel sank
Annabella's sword in her chest, right between her
breast. Blood rushed down her ribs and her mouth, her
body arched.
"Thank you," Imperatus whispered. I looked down on
him. I had an enormous erection. "What?" I asked him.
"Thank you, son... for letting me find peace. That was
all I wanted, not freedom... freedom... for what?" His
eyes got blank. He died.
I never should know if she simply let me win or not and
after all, it shouldn't matter.
I embraced Rachel, we kissed. I felt like heaven on
earth. But than I noticed the silence. There was no
cheering, no yelling... nothing. The crowd expected the
freedom of two great gladiators this evening but tables
did take a turn. A turn not wanted. Caligula raised from
his chair.
"Civilians of Rome!" he began... "I promised freedom
this evening and I will stand for my word... but..." he
raised his arms... "only for ONE gladiator!"
I didn't feel anything anymore. "There are still two
gladiators left, so the fight will continue!"
The crowd roared again and as I looked through the
Circus all faces melted to the appearance of a wild
animal, clutching his teeth. The animal was still
hungry. The animal still wanted blood.
I looked into the eyes of my love. I saw disbelief and
shock where there had been love and affection just a
moment before.
"NOOOO!" I screamed, throwing my sword towards Caligula.
It hit the end of the arena, just below his seat.
The archers appeared.
"Gladiator!", Caligula screamed, "if you don't fight, my
archers will slaughter you and tonight I will rape your
love... me and my guards.. all of them... before she
will be thrown to the lions!"
Silence. I nodded. Bastard!
I approached Rachel, we looked in each other's eyes, we
understood, we embraced, we kissed. The dagger of
Annabella blinked in Rachel's hands... "Do it!" I
whispered... "Push it deep and then turn the blade, my
love." She didn't let her view sink, she still looked me
straight in the eye and pushed the dagger in my belly.
To the hilt. Then she twisted it inside me.
I moaned and saw the tears in her eyes... she pulled it
out, gave it to me... She whispered... "Do it... push it
deep and than turn the blade, my love." The same words.
I kissed her and next I rammed the blade in her
beautiful, slim, open belly. I twisted the blade and
pulled it out. We were both mortally wounded now. We
would not die fast, but for sure.
Rachel sank to the ground... I followed her. I didn't
know if the crowd cheered or not... everything else was
gone.... except for Rachel. I kissed her. My lust was
insatiable as was hers. We had a few minutes left and we
wanted to enjoy every heartbeat we still had. I went
into her. She was wet and warm and for the last time I
could feel the sensation of being in her, being home...
at last.
Our blood mixed, we felt no pain... only love, only
desire as our souls were bend together for eternity. We
made love for the last time on this earth. We embraced
and held each other like children in a thunderstorm.
Maybe our lives were full of death, but our love was
pure and free of sin.
I hold on till my love arched her body, moaning, showing
me again her beautiful body, her erect nipples and her
wonderful swollen breasts and the blood that ran down
our bellies and sides only made her more beautiful.
I let my sperm flow into her and as we both climaxed my
last thought went to our child that would now never been
born as their parents died in the same second as the
roots for his life were planted. We went to the light,
hand in hand into eternity.

EPILOGUE
I heard Rachel's voice talking to me... "Wake up!"
I woke up but I saw not Rachel, but another woman, a
nurse. I was told that I survived the evening in the
Arena, but Rachel was dead. I was also told that I was
free now.
The life is no life for me anymore. Rachel is gone. I'm
here only for one task left. And my task is over as I
write our story here.
I don't have the time to write for long, so I must make
it quick.
I'm sitting in Caligula's room. Caligula is dead. His
body is ripped open by my sword. His penis is stuck in
his throat. I have locked the doors but the guards are
near of breaking them.
I will open the door now and raise my sword once again.
I will die like I lived.
Like a gladiator.
And I want to see Rachel again.
Every heartbeat without her is so full of pain I can't
stand anymore.
I want so see her again.
There.
On the other side...
