                              PROLOGUE

He paused, hand on the door knob, for the inevitable call.
   "Eddy?"
   "Yes, mom?"
   "You took out the trash?"
   "Yes, mom."
   "Walked Big Kay?"
   "Yes, mom."
   "And finished your homework?"
   "Yes, mom."
Ed's mother peered around the corner from the kitchen. "Sometimes,
you're such a good kid I just don't know what to do with you," she said
smiling.
"I can try to misbehave more, if you want mom."
"Mm... I think I can handle things as they are. Going to down to play with
your computer again?"
Ed opened the basement door. "Yep. I have a lot of e-mail to catch up
on."
His mother rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Have fun."
The door closed behind Ed as he walked the steps down into the dimly lighted
basement. Over in a corner, under a single desk lamp, was his PC, happily
playing its "Simpsons" screen saver as it had continuously for a week now.
Ed made a mental note to check to see if the keyboard needed dusting.
He walked to opposite side of the basement and faced the bare brick wall. He
stared for several moments, then slowly brought his hands together. As he
pulled them apart even more slowly, a source-less glow filled the air in
front of him. It spread until it was wide oval of brilliance several meters
across.
Ed glanced over at the computer once more. Something flickered in the air in
front of it. The disturbance solidified into an image of himself hunched
over the keyboard, fingers tapping at keys.
   He stepped into the light.

Beyond was a corridor of stone, curving sides and roof smooth
but distorted, as if melted and then twisted and bent.
Ed raised his arms. His jeans and t-shirt unravelled into thread and
scraps. A snugly fitting black body suit materialized in their place. Arms
still raised, Ed lifted several feet off the ground and began sailing down the
corridor.
After a short flight he came to a chamber, wider than the tunnel, but
equally flowing and warped, like a sudden splash of liquid instantly frozen.
Several bent and twisted pillars of stone stood in an arc before a complex
of cracks in the cave wall. Ed landed in the middle of the arc.
He took a breath -- but then immediately doubled over, grimacing in pain.
A bright glow began to shine from his chest underneath his body suit. He
clutched at the light.
"Hey!" he said. "Would...Ah! Would you cut it out!! Geez, it's not like
I'm resisting you or anything..."
He got to his feet and pointed at one of the pillars. On it sat an open
glass case with several old, ragged sheets of parchment inside. As he
pointed a dancing tongue of blue and pale red flame rose from the case. It
jumped into the air, danced around a bit, and then flowed into one of the
cracks in the wall. A deeper, red glow came from within as if in response,
and the ground rumbled with a low growl.
"See!" Ed said. "We are already making progress."
The expression of pain left his face. "I trusted you at first right? Now
you'll have to trust me that I know what I am doing."
Ed knelt on the stone floor. He laced his fingers together and,
stretching his arms, cracked his knuckles.
"Okay then. Now lets get to work!"

                            PART ONE

Amy felt it was a perfect day for paying a visit to the small library
and museum run by the Archelogy department of the University. She really
had been neglecting her Sanskrit recently and ought to brush up some.
She was startled to find the entrance to the building blocked off by a
yellow police ribbon. Amy looked around until she spotted a middle aged man
in a suit talking to a police officer.
She waited and then walked over.
   "Dr.Beddows, what has happened here?"
"Mm? Oh, hello Amy," the professor said. "I'm afraid there's been a bit
of trouble. Someone broke into the museum last night and stole one of our
artifacts."
"Oh my goodness... What was taken?"
   "The Murevan Ritual Decanter..."
Amy frowned. "Oh. I don't think I remember seeing that. What is it?"
Strangely, the professor began to blush. "It's..ah-hem, an obscure piece
that we had in the back room... Ah... not many people even knew we had it.
Which makes in doubly-strange that somebody would take it and it alone."
"Do you have any idea who--"
"Um, sorry Amy," Dr. Beddows said nervously. "I have to go, police
reports to fill out and all you know... I'll talk to you later."
The professor quickly walked off, leaving the puzzled Amy alone.

                              ***
The next day Amy gathered her four friends at their usual meeting place
at the Cherry Hill Temple.
The girls stared apprehensively at the stack of old musty books that Amy
had beside her.
"I just couldn't figure out what was bothering Dr.Beddows," she was saying.
"I also thought I knew every artifact the museum had, but I had never heard
of this decanter."
"Maybe they just bought it," Lita suggested.
Amy shook her head."I would have been sure to know about then. I go to
the museum all the time. I had to search through the main University library
to find out what the Murevan Ritual Decanter was."
Amy opened one of her books and put it down on the table so the others
could see the picture in it.
The girls gave a collective shriek.
"What is all this commotion," said Luna, jumping up on the table. She
also looked at the picture and went wide-eyed.
   Amy looked around, baffled.
"Amy!" said Raye. "No wonder your professor was embarrassed to talk about
this!"
   "Why? I don't understand what's wrong."
"Just look at it!" Raye said, pointing.
The picture in the book showed a carven stone object: a pitcher-like
vessel decorated with a stylized human shape, sitting on the long spout of the
pitcher. It was only with a second look that one realized that the spout
grew out from between the figure's legs and was intended to be an enormous
phallus.
"Oh, that," said Amy."For goodness sakes, this is an ancient
archaeological relic, not something naughty."
"If you say so," said Mina, sneaking another look.
Serena was still hiding her face behind Lita's broad back. "Will you get back
out here," Lita said. "Amy thinks this is important."
   Serena peered out cautiously.
"Yes, it is important," said Amy. "You see because I though everything
seemed so odd, I went back to the museum later and did some checking with my
scanner, just in case."
"Don't tell me you detected the Negaverse," said Luna.
"No," Amy shook her head. "It wasn't anything like the Negaverse, but
there traces of some strange energy. Not like anything I've detected
before."
"Now that is weird," said Mina.
"Especially," continued Amy, "Since this is not the first theft of an
artifact we've had recently. 4 days ago someone broke into the home of a
private collector and took several pages of a rare parchment found at
Pompeii. The collector didn't want it publicized, but a graduate student at the
University told me about it."
"Wow, we have our own little Sherlock Amy here," said Lita smiling.
   Amy opened another book.
"Amy!" cried Raye. "That's a porno too!"
Amy glanced at the picture of a parchment covered with writhing male and
female figures.
"Oh," said Amy. "You're right. I hadn't made that connection."
Sweat drops on the heads of Luna and the girls -- except for Serena, who
was now hiding in corner of the room, her jacket over her head.
Amy frowned in thought. "Now that you've mentioned it... It begins to
make sense. I was wondering about a connection, but it definitely seems some
one is stealing rare erotic artifacts."
"Could these things be... magical or something," asked Mina. "And that's
what you detected?"
"It could be," said Amy. "Both of these are very old -- nothing in any
of my research said just how old or where they originated. I think I better
see what I can find out about other erotic artifacts that might be in museums
or collections around the city."
"Yeah!" said Lita, making a fist. "And then we can be ready for this
creep before he steals anything else!"
Luna walked over to the two open books and looked down at them. "I admire
your enthusiasm Scouts, but is... Well is this really the sort of mission
girls your ages should get involved in?"
"Come on Luna," said Lita. "We need some action to keep in practice. And
if there is something bizarro or magical going on, then we made be the only
people who can deal with it."
   "I suppose," said Luna dubiously.
Raye cleared her throat. "Ah-hem... Oh, Ms. Scout Leader..."
Serena looked and tried to smile. She was on her hands and knees trying to
sneak out of the room. "You... ahh, you don't need me for this mission do
you..?"
"We need everybody, Serena," said Amy. "This may turn out to be very
important."
Serena looked down and pushed her index fingers together. "But... I'm...
I get nervous about stuff... Like those pictures."
"Oh grow up!" said Raye, exasperated. "I'm sure Darien would be thrilled
to hear you talk like that."
Serena's eye grew wide... and then streamed with tears. "RAYEEE! You are so
meeeannnn! WAAAAH!!"
The other girls lowered their heads.
"We better get to work," said Mina. "We all will have to help Amy find
were the thief may strike next."

                               * * *

Two days later Serena was on her way home from school, Luna drapped about
her neck.
"You better hurry up, Serena," Luna nagged. "You have to get home and do
your homework before going out on patrol tonight."
"And just how am I suppose to get enough sleep to do both! This dopey mission
of Amy's has got to be the most majorly boring thing in the world!"
"I think we ought to trust her intuition about this."
"I like Amy, but I think she may spent too much time in those old
libraries of hers. All those old dusty books can make you a little crazy."
   "And how would you know?"
"Cut it out Luna, I'm -"
A series of startled cries interrupted her.
   "What was that?"
"We better go see," said Luna.
Serena nodded and started to run.

A couple blocks ahead a crowd had gathered in front of block of offices.
There was a crash and tinkling of glass. Some dark figure and broke out a
window and was climbing up the side of the building several stories up.
"Serena!" Luna said in the girl's ear and pointed with a paw. "That
building is the the Rierlen Institute! It's one of the places on Amy's
list!"
"Oh great, two boring nights of patrol and then we run into the thief
before I get to have my afterschool snack!"
The crowd gasped as the dark figure leapt from the side of the Institute
to another roof top. It was clearly clutching something in its hand.
   "Serena..."
"Okay already! Let's circle around back and catch this creep."
   "Shouldn't we call the others?"
"And have Raye yell at me that I can't do anything by myself? I
don't think so. Besides... Amy said this wasn't the Negaverse or anything
right?"
   "And if she's wrong?"
"Ummm... Well, then we run away and call the others."
Sweat drops on Luna's head. "Now that's a brilliant plan."

Serena dashed down an alley behind the building the thief had jumped on.
"Okay!" she said. "This looks like a good spot for a little Moon action."
She set Luna on the ground and raised her hand.
   "Moon Prism -- ACKK!"
A heavy impact knocked Serena to the ground. Something had jumped on her back
and used her like a spring board.
Groaning, she looked up and saw a jet black creature land on its two
stumpy legs. It held a broken slab of stone in one of its equally short
arms.
"Hey you!" shouted Serena."That's not fair, hitting somebody from
behind."
The creature turned around, and to Serena's dismay, she saw that it had
no head, just a single glowing red eye between its shoulders.
"Eeuhk!" Serena cried, scrambling back, and then trying to get to her
feet.
Scarlet sparks flickered around the thing's eye.
   "Serena, look out!!" called Luna.
   "EEEEKKK!"
A beam of shimmering red light shot from the creature. Serena, still half
on the ground was caught by it and sent tumbling. The creature bounded off.
"Oh, no! Serena! Are you all right!" Luna bounded over.
Serena sat up and carefully poked at herself. "Ah.. Ah.. I think so," she
panted. "Just got the wind knocked out of me."
"Now can we call the others?"
"No! Luna you go catch up with that gross thing. I'll be right there!"
Luna hesitated and then ran off. "She picks the most wonderful times to
act brave," the cat said to herself.
Serena stood. "Alrighty! Let's try this again: Moon Crystal Powwerrr!"

More screams and exclamations as the dark thing reached the next street
and pushed its way through the mass of pedestrians.
A swishing of air and the sound of boots landing on pavement.
"Okay you zip with legs! Prepare to get squeezed!
"I am Sailor Moon, Champion of Justice!
"On behalf of the Moon I shall punish you!"
Serena snuck a glimpse at the surrounding people, thinking she'd done a
particularly good job on her speech and hoping for a little applause.
Instead she saw only wide-eyed stares of astonishment on every face.
   "Huh?" she said blinking.
Off to one side of the crowd she noticed Luna, who was also staring and
gesturing frantically.
   "What is it?"
Sailor moon stared at her hands... and then at the rest of herself.
   She was naked.
Aside from her gloves, boots, and sailor collar, which still held her
locket, she was quite bare.
Her face -- and other parts of her anatomy -- turned bright red as her
hands danced up and down her torso trying to cover what they could.
Luna came hurrying over and, as soon as she was in reach Serena grabbed
her and, holding the meowing cat in front of her crotch, quickly backed
away across the street into an alley.
"Sailor Moon! You put me down this instant!!" Luna howled.
Serena dropped the cat and immediately burst into tears. "LuNNNaaa! What
happennnned!! Where's my costummme!! Everybody was looking at meeeeee!"
"Now stop that crying. That beam must have done something to you!"
"But what am I going to dooooo!"
"You are Sailor Moon! You must complete your mission. That thing is
getting away."
   "Buh-buh-but... LuNNaaa!"
"Stopping that thing maybe the only way to find out what's happened."
"Ohhh... sniff... sniff... You're right..." She glanced down helplessly
at her naked body. "Okay... I can't let this stop me."
She looked up and, crouching, leapt a good ten feet into the air to land
on the fire escape above her.
Luna came hopping up the steps. "You see? You are still Sailor Moon.
Being a Sailor Scout is more than just a costume."
Serena moaned miserably, but started up the rest of the way toward the
roof.

Looking carefully from behind a chimney, Sailor Moon spotted the creature
making its way across the next roof. Gathering her determination, she made
the jump herself.
"Hold it right there! You... You... You perverted wart! Nobody turns
Sailor Moon into a centerfold and gets away with it!"
The dark thing began to run off.
Sailor Moon reached to her forehead... and panicked a second, not having
checked yet to see if she still had her tiara. With relief she found it
in place and lifted it off.
   "Moon Tiara Magic!!!"
The creature had reached the edge of the roof and made a tremendous leap.
The blazing disc struck it in midair and the creature tumbled out of
control and hit with a heavy splat on the flat roof of the next building over.
   "Hah!" Sailor Moon said triumphantly.
The creature was beginning to loose its shape, melting into a black
pool. Serena could see the slab of carved stone it had stolen lying in
front of it where it had been dropped.
But as she was preparing to jump over and get it, Sailor Moon noticed
a bit of shadow dancing in the air. It thickened and formed itself into a
disk. Another creature leaned out of it -- only this one, while still
completely jet black, was human in appearance. The figured reached
for the stone.
"No way!" shouted Sailor Moon, leaping across.
The figure looked up as she landed. "Whoa!" he said. "Nice bounce babe!"
"What?" Serena immediate turned red again.
The figure snickered, grabbed the stone, and vanished back into the disk.
"YOU COMPLETE JERK!!" shouted Sailor Moon. "WHEN I GET MY HANDS ON YOU,
THERE WON'T EVEN BE ANY MOON DUST TO SWEEP UP!"
There was the sound of a breaking glass. Sailor Moon looked up and saw,
on a balcony over looking the roof, a family of four having a picnic.
Each head was looking back and for between the fading black disk and
creature and the naked Sailor Scout.
"EEEEEEEEE!!!!" shrieked Sailor Moon and dashed away...

Sailor Moon felt she had been crouching in the bushes for hours. Luna had
run off to find Amy and have her bring her some clothes. But Serena was sure
the temperature had dropped 10 degrees as soon as the cat was out of sight.
"I'll be a Sailor pop-cycle if I wait any longer," she said through
chattering teeth. She had to do something and there was only one place
within reach, as much as she hated to admit it.

Raye knelt before the sacred fire, rapidly chanting, pausing only to
toss an occasional bundle of twigs into the fire.
There was a soft knock at the door to the shire. Raye paused a second but
continued the ritual.
The knock came again, louder. "Raye..." came a miserable voice. "Please
let me in..."
"Serena?" Raye hissed. "Go away. I am busy."
   "Raye... Please this is importannnttt..."
   "SO IS THIS GO AWAY!"
From across the temple the two girls heard Raye's grampa calling. "Raye?
Was that you? Are you finished with your prayers."
"Ohnoohnoonho..." said Sailor Moon. "Raye. Oh pleeeeezee! You've got to
left me in..."
Furious, Raye stood and walked to the door. She unlatched it and
violently slid it open. "Serena this is about the most --"
The naked Sailor Moon tumbled in and immediate crawled over next to the
fire.
   "Ah! Warmth! Warmth! Warmth!"
Raye stared blankly at absolutely nothing for several moments. She then,
still staring, slid the door closed, and lowered the latch.
"Sailor Moon..." she said with great care. "What on earth is..."
"THISCREEPYWARTTHINGBLASSTEDMEANDMYCOSTUMEWENTAWAYANDITRIEDTOFIGHTITANDHITIT

Raye continue to stare into space.
"Okay. Um. Your costume... Have... Well, have you tried just turning back
into Serena?"
Sailor Moon looked up from the fire.
"Ah.. No...I hadn't thought of that."
She closed her eyes, and lightly touched her locket where it hung from
her collar. There was a flashing of translucent pink ribbons about her bare
skin and a moment later Serena sat there in her school uniform.
Raye slapped her forehead. "Sometime, Serena, sometimes..."
Tears began to form in Serena's eyes."Well... Luna didn't think of it
either... WAAHHHH!!!"

                              TO BE CONTINUED
