In Thoughts of You

I sit here, as my tea warms my hands, and I think of you
You are out there, somewhere, but where I know not
If I close my eyes, I hear you breathe, your heartbeat, your voice
But when I open them, it all fades into silence
My skin remembers your touch, your feel, you essence
But only in the space between the beats of my heart
And yet all of this I could bear, easily, I think
If I was the only one that was missing these things
But I am not, for we have a son now
So, my love, I implore you, wherever you are
The time has come for you to return to us
We need you, we miss you, and we love you
And somewhere is a lonely place, but here is home
A home where your family awaits your return
My tea has gotten cold, as your memory grows colder
And you son has learned to speak, and has no one to call "dada"
I pray for your return, and if God has heard my prayers
Then you will knock on the door, your usual "tap taptaptap tap"
