                                            troubling tees

Times change, as do the slogans people favor. In the 1960Õs, the
term Òbaby killerÓ was tossed about, not only as a term of derision but
also as a kind of positive, macho image, reflected in the song, ÒNapalm
sticks to kids.Ó At a recent riot against globalization, a t-shirt was seen
bearing this slogan: ÒBaby fucker.Ó
Another t-shirt bore the words, ÒCertified molesterÓ, reminiscent,
one would suppose, of the 1980Õs anti-authority slogan ÒCertified
lunatic.Ó
And then there was a shirt which said, ÒI can fuck anyone I want to
fuck.Ó On the back of the shirt it read, ÒIncluding your daughter.Ó
Disturbing slogans to be sure but, as the Chief of Police of
Washington D.C. said, of the rioters, ÒGod bless Ôem.Ó -- The Economist,
April 22, 2000, pg. 24.
