                                            Chapter Nineteen

         Lisa Onion started across the street with her tray stacked high with 
cookies.  She liked the turtles best; she hoped to sell lots of them but at 
the same time she had a vague fantasy of not selling any, and being 
allowed by her mother to eat them all when she got home.  No little nymph 
came wafting out of the air, or up from the earth, on this day, and as a 
result when Lisa Onion got to the middle of the street, beleaguered by her 
armload of cookies and not able to see the traffic too well, she was run 
over by a car.
         LisaÕs mother and older sister buried Lisa the following week; now 
and then in the springtime they go to her grave and put flowers on it.
         As for the man in the blue apartments with the white trim, he was 
arrested a month later, for being too familiar with a 9-year-old girl who 
lived up the street from him.
         And so here I sit in prison, my reign at an end, everything in the 
world restored to the way it was before that dear sweet little nymph 
came into my life.  For you see, although I was able to defeat the legions 
of angels, if everyone on earth prays for me to be defeated by God 
Almighty, it will happen.  Even I, as Chaos, canÕt resist the combined will 
of God plus all life on earth.
         ItÕs how the reign of Chaos ended the first time, and dammit if it 
didnÕt happen to Him again.  Or rather to me, since His spirit had invested 
my body, just as that gorgeous little nymphÕs spirit invested the body of 
Lisa Onion.
         I hope youÕre happy.  Lisa is safely dead and buried, never to be 
molested or raped, and IÕm behind bars.  Do you like the world this way?  
God knows, you probably do, and you probably prefer women to little girls 
too.
