Chapter 2 - Reconnecting Now that I'd discovered which of the buildings this young woman worked in I managed to get over near the entrance to the building just as the work day ended. I tried to look like I wasn't waiting and soon saw the young woman again and realized that I knew her but couldn't think of where. I saw her get into her car and drive away and I followed suit. I vowed to get to know her and find out where I knew her from. As I was drifting off to sleep, the answer suddenly came to me – that was Peggy! I had trouble sleeping that night and as soon as I could the next day I made some excuse and went over to the building where Peggy worked and found her. As soon as she saw me she recognized me and jumped up to greet me. We chatted for a couple of minutes, exchanged phone numbers and addresses and agreed to meet for supper that night. I went back to my apartment and was as nervous as a teenager about to go out on his first date. I changed my mind 2 or 3 times about what to wear and finally settled on a pair of dress slacks and an open necked dress shirt. After putting on some nice aftershave I went to meet Peggy at her apartment. When she opened the door and I went in immediately felt like I was meeting and old friend – and I guess I was. We headed out and went to a nice restaurant where I'd made reservations. We had a leisurely meal and talked non-stop catching up on one another's lives. I discovered that Peggy had also gone to college and was an industrial accountant. She briefly told me about her mother's death and the aftermath; little did I know that I would be in the same situation as her father had been in. Fortunately, the restaurant wasn't busy and we spent quite a bit of time there but finally we needed to leave. I suggested that we leave the car where it was and take a walk as the restaurant was in the historic part of the city and there were many sights to see. After walking for what seemed like hours, talking and looking at the sights, we decided to go back to the car. I asked Peggy what she'd like to do, offering to drop her at her own apartment (one she shared with a roommate) or to take her back to mine where we could continue our conversation. Peggy said she'd like to continue talking so she'd like to go to my place. "I suppose it's a typical bachelor pad, is it? Lots of man toys and not much else" she said with a grin as we drove. "Oh I think you're going to be surprised." I replied and left it at that. While I do have a big screen TV and a nice sound system, I've discovered that I have a good sense of style when it comes to home décor. Not only that I, really enjoy cooking and have a really nice and well equipped and well stocked kitchen. When I opened the door to the apartment and Peggy walked in, she walked around the living room and kitchen then turned to me with a surprised look on her face. "How come there's no woman in your life?" she asked. Without thinking, I replied "Because I was waiting for you." Peggy looked at me for a moment then ran over, wrapped her arms around me and gave me the most passionate kiss I'd ever received. "Oh David! Oh…" she said and looked me in the eye. "I didn't realize it until now that that was just what I was waiting for." She gave me another kiss, just as passionate as the last and hugged me even tighter. Finally we parted and sat down on the couch. Peggy looked at me and smiled. "David, thus will sound strange but I had several job offers, a couple of them better than this one but something seemed to tell me to take this job. Now I know why. Oh David, I'm so glad I did. I'm so glad to be back with you again." and with that she grabbed me and kissed me again. I got up, went and got a nice bottle of wine from my pantry and with 2 glasses in hand went back to the living room. After pouring the wine I gave Peggy one and took my glass in hand. "To getting back together again" I said as I raised my glass in a toast. "Oh yes." Peggy replied as she raised her glass in response. I took Peggy's hand and lifted her to her feet then showed her the remained of the apartment. When we got to my bedroom she went over to the closet, turned to me and asked "May I?" "Of course." I replied. She opened the closet doors and looked at the clothes and shoes. "This is definitely NOT a bachelor pad." She said with a huge smile on her face. "I could get used to living here." Suddenly she realized the implication of her statement, got red faced and ran out to the living room. I waited a moment to allow her to regain her composure then went back out to kneel in front of her. "Peggy, don't be embarrassed. I understand what you meant." I said. She looked up and me with a silly grin on her face "Well I sure put both feet into it, didn't I? I only…" I put a finger on her lips "I know what you meant and I would never take things the wrong way." I took my finger off her lips. "I'm not trying to push you out but..." pointing to the clock on the wall, "we both have to work tomorrow so I'd better get you home. As we were getting into my car I turned to her "Come here tomorrow night and I'll cook you dinner." She looked at me with a bit of skepticism. "Yep, I can cook ask Sharon Wilson who works with you in Accounting. She's had one of my meals, and no she didn't spend the night." Peggy grinned. "All right I'll be here; what time?" "Oh about 6:30 would be okay." I said "If you want to come earlier, I'll be home by about 5:30 as I need to go and get a few things for supper. I'll leave to door unlocked when I get home so when you get here just come in. Oh, one more thing, are you all right with seafood?" "Oh I love seafood?" she replied.
