Chapter 6:

	By Friday the crew had leveled the Jansen house. As they were
gathering up the last of their things, a very different meeting
was taking place in Brad Ports garage.

	Brad had been infected the first day, and had surprised his

spread by human contact alone. Within five weeks, all but the
arctic in North America had been infiltrated by the mosquitoes
and they had begun their southerly trip. Seven weeks after the
seal on the Jansen house had been broken all of the Americas were
lost. The coastal waters and airways had been shut down too late,
and with all the precautions, the mosquitoes and the viral
cocktail they carried were popping up in Europe, Asia and Africa.
Some blamed it on the Russians but it was no use, as it would
soon sweep over much of their territories as well. The last hold
out was Australia, but somehow someone had slipped through their
defenses.

	The only place where it was safe for humans to avoid the
retro-viruses was in the extreme north and south where mosquitoes
couldn't live or on a boat in the middle of the ocean. Even then,
the virus was carried by humans and if one person slipped through
whole villages would fall within days. These populations were now
cut off from the rest of the world by extreme force, just to make
sure some natural humans survived. During all of this extremists
from organized religions became frenzied. Those that escaped
initial infection began a short lived uprising and tried to burn
as many of the infected as possible, alive many times. Eventually
though, even the most devout would get bitten by a tiny flying
creature and be converted within two days. There was no cure for
the permanent genetic changes yet. No amount of larvicide could
combat the swarms of black invaders. When Vatican city and Mecca
fell, it signaled the total defeat of the worldly organized
religions.

	With the governments in chaos the worlds armies began to falter
and crumble. With no one interested in organizing world
domination the governments of all countries simply ceased to
exist in the sixth month after Tina was bitten by the first
mosquito. The changes to people had been both erotic and
profound. The term 'make love not war' actually made sense in the
new world. It was not all roses however.

	Nine months later after the virus had swept across the globe. A
temporary world government had formed by a small group that had
emerged when things started to get really bad. Scientists took to
the airwaves and made a general announcement in all languages,
transmitted to every corner of the globe, and sent deliveries of
it in print to those still without power.

	It had taken researchers in a sealed CDC lab five months to pick
apart and identify each retro-virus, but by then somehow they too
were infected. Their official world wide broadcast simply
detailed what each virus did and how they were going to try and
make it livable.

	They explained that essentially each one targeted a specific
gene. The general level of horniness was increased in both sexes,
as well as a lowering of natural inhibitions. The combined effect
was one of mass mind alteration, turning the entire human
population into borderline sex addicts. In addition to this, the
sensitivity of all the erogenous zones were amplified in the
brain, and extreme pleasure was one of the common factors from

	Infected children would not feel the effects of the viruses
until puberty, at which point the virus would take hold of them.

enforced as before. However once puberty reached a certain stage,
which was individual and now very obvious, these children were to

were concerned.

	A very serious portion of the broadcast was enhanced with
scrolling and very graphic pictures of what looked like grotesque
experiments gone wrong. This part was a warning to the pockets of
“pure” humans that still existed. He warned that no level of
societal controls could be placed on these young people due to
the disastrous effects of forced celibacy. The death toll from
experiments that had been undertaken were staggering, and the
scientific counsel warned that boys became enraged and violent.
*In the background a young boy, eyes red and flaring, beats down
a man on a street. The boy screeches to the sky as the mans chest

boy returns to smashing the dead mans chest and splatters blood
all over himself and the road. A gunshot rings out in the
background as the scientist talks and the boy slumps over.* They
have to be put down because the insanity and rage become
permanent after only five days. Young girls became depressed and
either died of odd organ failures or if they survived became so
severely depressed it was inhumane to keep them alive. *The
picture of an emaciated girl being fed through a tube in her
abdomen as she lay lifeless with dead looking eyes was put up on
the screen.* He explained that a girls chances of surviving child
birth even as young as eight were much higher than any other
options.

	Some of the other changes, he goes on to say, were far more
gender specific.

	The men became extremely virile and had an impossible amount of
stamina, and along with mildly enhanced endowments they also
became very desirable to women because of the hormones they now
produced. The alpha male genes were now present in the entire
male population. Men would need  release many times in a day, and
work hours and schedules were going to be designed to allow for
breaks for both men and women to “relieve” themselves should the
need arise. There was no age where men were not affected past
puberty, and men as old as 102 had been found to be similarly
affected the same as any other, which sadly had ultimately led to
a large amount of heart attacks in the elder male population.

	Women had been altered by the viruses to reproduce much like
rabbits. In fact DNA from rabbits had been used in two specific
cases, which in effect made it so that not only did male

child, it also made them do it from each ovary. All forms of
birth control were outlawed because women would become depressed
if they were without child for more than three months. There had
been many suicides of women who couldn't conceive because of past
surgeries and other complications. From now on, if a woman was
found to be barren she was immediately put on suicide watch or
euthanized if she so chose. He also dispelled the rumor that the
virus increased breast size, once you discounted the natural
developments from pregnancy of course. For women the only cure
was to live to the age of menopause, at which time your body
would shed the need to breed on it's own. They were working on a
way to trick the body into doing that early, however that
research was a few years away from producing anything viable. Any
women to reach that age born today, he explained, would have had
at least 80 children by then.

	For the bio-medical community it seemed important to rid the
world of sexually transmitted diseases like aids and syphilis.
Those and many others were rampant throughout the world now and
were killing people in the millions daily. Using the existing
retro-virus, they announced that mosquitoes were now equipped
with added viruses and had been bred in vast numbers, they were
being spread all over the world to end peoples suffering and they
would announce when their tests had shown that it had reached all
affected areas. While they were doing this, many other diseases
were being eradicated the same way, making malaria, lyme and
others a thing of the past.

	At the end of the broadcast the scientist highlighted that the
first children conceived because of the virus was due to be born
any day now. *A picture of Tina naked and spread eagle with a
huge belly takes over the screen as “Congratulations Tina, we
love you” scrolls across the bottom in large letters.* “It's the
beginning of a new chapter in humanity” he says before signing
off.

	A small classroom of students watched the televised broadcast,
this day had been very important for the whole world. The
transmission ended and the teacher hit the off button on the
remote. Tina's once tiny body had expanded, almost beyond what
looked possible. She was just about due, and couldn't wait to
finally meet her son and daughter. Having the fame of being
patient zero had not been fun for a long while, and it was only a
few months ago that she was able to leave the bunker where she
was hidden. More than once there were attempts on her life, one
woman even tried to spray gasoline on her and light her up. She

car to avoid getting bitten. She had missed Tina but then tried
to run her down with the car anyway. After that Tina was taken to
a secure facility to keep her safe. Eventually with fewer
uninfected people around the threats had completely ceased, she
was allowed back home with her parents and brother.

	There were a lot of pregnant women and girls around now, and the
population was estimated to explode even with all the death and
the brief wars that had happened. Now that a new government had
been established and the fighting mostly stopped there was
breathing space. Tina had been able to walk around and was even
revered by many as the first mother of the new humans. While
sitting in her second period English class, Tina's water broke. A

into the new world. It was the beginning of the end for humanity
as we know it. For those affected by the virus, a cure may have
helped them by reverting them back to their original state. These
two babies however, and all that would follow, would never have
had their parents original DNA. They would go on to re-populate
the world with no need of the virus. The unique mixing of DNA
would never be able to be unraveled even if they did find a cure.
