NOTE ON THE STORIES OF JOE WHATEVER
by
C. Lakewood
Joe Whatever wrote a fairly large number of fairly short stories,
primarily 2002-2004, generally having a spanking theme. Most of
them were about 3KB (some 500 words) each. There were a few
longer ones, however, and a fair number of very much shorter ones
(only about 50 words each) that I have termed "mini-stories."
With permission of the author, I have included 52 of them here --
almost all of those that I have been able to locate. The editing
on most of them was minimal and largely mechanical -- punctuation,
spelling, continuity, and, occasionally, word choice.
The two longest entries here -- "Lisa and Terri," Parts 1-2 -- tend
to plod at times (despite the deletion of much excess verbiage and
needless repetition). But "18 Again" is almust as long and is a
classic AR story, and "Serial Teen" quite a novel approach.
Moreover, for all their brevity, there are some real gems among
the short pieces -- including my favorites, "Psychology," "Tattle
Tail," "The Other Side of the Door," "Uncertainty," and "Voices"
(each of which, though complete in itself, leaves plenty of room
for the reader to imagine a follow-on to suit himself).
