Chapter 3

Posted: September 09, 2008 - 08:23:58 am

Sue woke me in the middle of the night by sitting on my stomach. I had no idea what time it was. "Alright husband. You've been putting off your husband responsibilities lately. It's time we caught up."

We tried to catch up.

I didn't know what time we woke up, but it was after eleven before I was able to call for some emergency coffee. When the bellhop arrived, Sue asked if they had a clothes shop where she could get a swim suit. He told her that the east wing had over a hundred thousand square feet of shops for anything we could want.

We dressed in our casual clothes then went in search of some warm weather clothes and swimwear. Sue found several pair of shorts and slacks, but had a hard time with tops, as usual. One shop showed her Sue's internet store catalog and said she could get almost anything she would want from this company within a day. It was funny, because Sue picked out a few tops and a swim suit and told her she hoped they could be there the next day. Sue also ordered a couple of nice dresses from the catalogue that showed off her magnificent cleavage, but the dresses also gave her a taller appearance.

I found some slacks, shorts, shirts, socks, shoes and, a couple of swim suits. The store said they would have the clothes laundered and put in our suite. They did have nice service. Some of the cash we had brought with us greased the way to having folks want to serve us.

Next on our schedule was food. We went to the restaurant with the intention of having a late breakfast. Instead, we had a fruit tray and salads with grilled mahi-mahi. When we went up to our suite to change, we found all of our purchases were in our closet or arranged on the vanity for us to put away. We decided on swimwear, so we changed and headed down to the beach. Sue caused a stir, as her recently purchased bikini was not meant for a girl with her endowment. The skimpy top did its best to cover her, but failed to do anything but enhance the large and growing bosom of my pregnant wife.

We played in the water's edge, and ventured out far enough to have the waves knock us over. We went a little farther and tried to body surf a little. You have to jump with the wave so you stay on top of it as it carries you toward the shore. By the time we were very waterlogged, we had both successfully ridden waves from fairly far out all the way to the beach. We decided not to overdo the sun, so we went inside and showered before deciding to use the hotel's gym.

We used the treadmills and the weight machines for over an hour, then went back to our room to change for supper. After supper, we went to the hotel lounge where they had a band and a nice dance floor. We danced together for the first time since our wedding, enjoying the closeness we were sharing.

When we left the lounge, we stopped at the desk to see when our guests would be arriving. The clerk told us that their plane was due in about thirty minutes ago and the passengers should be arriving at the hotel within the hour. I asked about their rooms and was told they all were in suites similar to ours.

There was a lobby bar, so Sue and I went in. I had a martini, while Sue had her Diet Coke.

We were watching when three white limousines pulled up at the entryway. First out was Beth, followed by Ben. Both of them had big eyes at the treatment they were receiving. Next came Phil and Judy, smiling and luxuriating in the attention. Last was Abe and Alice, complete with his shit eating grin. He was the one to spot us as we watched the procession to the desk. He headed Alice over to us, and while Alice and Sue hugged, Abe shook my hand, "Thanks, Steve. This is a dream come true for Alice and me. Somehow, I knew you were going to be good luck for us."

"Go get signed in. You two must be worn out. Sue and I will meet you in the restaurant for breakfast, then we'll see what all has been planned for us."

Phil and Judy saw where Abe and Alice were and came over to us. We went through the same hugging and handshaking before sending them back to the desk to finish checking in.

We walked over to the desk area to wait so we could save Ben and Beth the trip to the bar. When Beth turned and saw Sue, she burst into tears and was holding Sue, saying how happy she was to see her baby. Ben turned to see what the commotion was, and he began shaking my hand like he was mixing a drink saying, "Thank you, thank you, thank you."

We finally got them settled down and sent them up to bed. Beth wanted to visit some more, but Sue told her they had a whole week to visit and sent them both off. Beth whispered into my ear, "Thank you for getting Ben and me a room together."

Sue and I went back to the bar and were just climbing onto our stools, when we saw him. It was Dewey, the guy who lived on a sailboat at Friday Harbor and who had planned our cruise and contacted John to fly and guide us.

"Fancy meeting you here, Dewey."

"I came to make sure you two were treated right. John told me how you had saved his life up there in the Yukon. He told me you two were going to go to Hawaii, so I had the hotel you were staying at call me the instant you wanted to fly out. I'm indebted to you, Steve. You saved my brother's life and then you two gave him your shares of the gold you all found. You both are special, and I'm going to show you a good time while you're here."

"Thanks, Dewey," I said, at a loss for words. I didn't know how he could have done all that, or who he was to be able to get it all done. "You know you don't have to do this. We can take care of everything."

"I'm gonna tell you one more time. Your money is worthless here. This is my hotel, and everyone here is going to treat you and yours like you're my son and daughter. Enjoy yourself, I'm going to enjoy it with you." Dewey leaned back, picked up his drink, and winked at me before saying, "I am going to insist that you come back through Friday Harbor on the way home, though. Some jerk left me a big bar tab, and I'm having trouble drinking it up."

Dewey, Sue, and I sat at the lobby bar until midnight, talking and laughing about life and how everything comes down to being at the right place at the right time.

Sue and I were up, showered, and in the restaurant by seven-thirty. The first to show was Dewey who ordered us a Bloody Mary to start our day. He said he knew he was going to have to watch my drinking habits; he thought I wasn't practicing enough.

Ben and Beth came in and were both served a Bloody Mary with their coffee. The waitress was waiting and immediately got coffee and Bloody Marys when Phil, Judy, Abe and Alice all showed up,. Sue had to settle for a Virgin Mary but she enjoyed it just as much.

I introduced Dewey to everyone and tried to give him an idea of who these folks were and what they meant to me. Dewey went into a spiel as to how I had saved his kid brother's life up in the Yukon, and then Sue and I had given away our big shares of the gold we had found.

"Dewey, don't be telling everybody about stuff like that or they'll never let us go back up there to visit."

Ben spoke up then, "I can tell you first hand how Steve saved my ass not long ago. Some guy was sent to kill me and Steve, but Steve got the best of him and he was carried out of my office on a coroner's stretcher. Then he was instrumental in busting a huge drug ring. You can't tell me much about him I wouldn't believe. He attracts trouble, but he is a people magnet that knows how to make a business sing."

Abe told Dewey, "I was forced into retirement and this kid found me and had me help rebuild some junk he bought at an auction. That was part of the beginning of his company and he is now one of the largest commercial power equipment dealers in the States. He's created a whole new life for me, and given Alice and me security for life."

Then it was Phil's turn. "This kid gets Abe to lure me into coming to work for him. I didn't know the kid didn't have any experience working a business, so I blundered on while the kid keeps feeding me leads that create business and more business by the day. Then all of sudden, I'm making more money than I've ever made in my life."

Judy interrupted him, "Steve and Sue take care of so many people and have a home that is open to dozens of friends every day. They have coffee and breakfast in the morning for twenty or so people, and have dinner with everyone in the evening. There might be thirty people having dinner together. Dewey, you just can't believe how special these two are."

"Stop! Cease! Enough!" "If you guys want to go somewhere and talk like this, fine, but enough already about Sue and me. This vacation is not about us, it's for you guys."

Dewey slapped me on the back and said, "Well, okay, but we have to go do some outdoor stuff so I can write some articles for the magazines. As long as I'm in Hawaii, I might as well make a living."

"Sure you do, Dewey," I said sarcastically, thinking about his owning the hotel. "Why not have the hotel go bring the outdoors into the lobby so we don't have to go look for it?"

"Damn good idea, Steve, why didn't I think of that?"

Sue took the women to the shops for a little while so Dewey could explain what we were going to do. First, we were going to take a plane he had available for a sightseeing tour around the islands. That should take most of the morning. Then, after lunch, he wanted all of us to take a tour up to the volcano to see the lush landscape from high up.

Tomorrow we would go to the naval memorial and tour the big island. Dewey had a busy schedule planned with snorkeling, dining, dancing, and a trip out to deep-sea fish on one of the hotel's boats.

I told Dewey that the three couples had always wanted to come to Hawaii, so it would be a good idea to have them give some input on what they had dreamed about doing when they came here. He thought for a few minutes, then said, "I'll have our lunch served in a private dining room. I'll let them know what I have available, then they can plan on some private outings."

When the ladies finally returned from shopping, Dewey herded us out to a small tour bus that took us to an old army airfield nearby. We boarded a small passenger plane and took off on a quick tour. We flew high to see the islands as a group, then low over areas where Dewey pointed out attractions and significant places.

Back at the hotel we were served lunch in a lavish dining room with serving girls wearing early Hawaiian apparel. They had the wrap skirts with multiple flower leis for tops. It was a little distracting, as you would watch as they moved, hoping to catch a glimpse of something that might peek out. But alas, they remained covered throughout.

When Dewey questioned the group, Phil immediately said he and Judy wanted to play golf a couple of times, but definitely wanted to go out to the beach and also wanted to go to the Arizona memorial. Abe said that Alice wanted to see as many native displays as they could, but they also wanted to see Don Ho perform and to go to a luau. Ben and Beth wanted to play golf too and they also wanted to go to a luau. They all thought that going deep sea fishing would be a great time.

When they were done, Dewey turned to Sue and me and asked, "And what would you two most like to do?"

Sue and I looked at each other, then Sue answered, "This trip is for these special people. Steve and I get to enjoy it with them."

"Isn't there any one thing the two of you would like to do now that you're in Hawaii?" Dewey almost pleaded.

Sue thought for a few seconds, then while looking at me said, "If we could, Steve and I would like to learn how to surf. I want to use one of those big surfboards and ride a wave back to the beach. I would love to ride inside one of those huge waves, but so far I haven't seen any really big waves."

"Consider it done. I have a friend that is a great surfer and he knows all of the areas where the great waves are. I'll go with you. I love to surf and it's been a while since I've gone."

Dewey spent some time discussing things with the folks, then said that we would leave for the memorial in a little while, so if any of us wanted to freshen up, we should meet back in the lobby in thirty minutes.

The afternoon tour of the naval memorial was somber, but interesting. You can see the sunken battleship in the clear water. As you stand on the walkway you realize you are actually in a cemetery; there are still hundreds of sailors entombed within the sunken hull of the ship. The memorial gives you pause. It's a warning for our country to be ready to defend itself for all time to come.

We arrived back at the hotel at about four-thirty. Dewey told us that we should meet back in the lobby at seven. A private luau was being held farther up the beach this evening, and we had permission to attend. He said to wear casual clothes. We would be sitting on the ground during the meal.

Sue and I wandered over to the lobby bar where I ordered a beer. Abe and Alice joined us, also having beer. Phil came over for a scotch and Judy joined Sue in having a Diet Coke. We had only been at the bar of a couple of minutes when Dewey came in carrying a handful of papers.

"Aha, trying to catch up on your drinking, kid? You two ladies are not a good influence, drinking that horrid Diet Coke in an adult libation establishment."

Judy defended herself and Sue, saying, "Sue is pregnant and I have to hold my booze consumption down because I can't hold my liquor very well. Two drinks and someone has to put me to bed most of the time. I have to ration myself so I can keep up with the crowd."

Dewey waved his hand as if he were the Pope absolving someone of their sins, "Good reasons, both of you. Congratulations, Sue and Steve. This is definitely a reason to celebrate."

Standing, Dewey hollered, "Innkeeper, fresh drinks all around to honor the prospective parents we have in our presence."

Judy decided to sample a Hawaiian mimosa to join in the celebration.

As we were sitting and chatting, Dewey was busily reading the papers he had brought in. A bellhop came in and found Dewey, giving him another handful.

We were just about ready to leave when Dewey asked Sue and me to stay for a minute.

After the others had left for their rooms, Dewey said, "You two have been busy these last few months. I see that Sue has been developing a strong internet business and has now even purchased a manufacturing plant. And Steve, what is this about you being on vacation, but starting a business that is going to do several hundred million in business the first year? I see that you are involved with NASCAR, but not racing. You are a provider of equipment. I'll bet that's an interesting story. Now the interesting part is that you two aren't in debt up to your nostrils. You seem to have been able to ride this whole thing by using cash flow. There is one thing I don't understand. What's this about purchasing a trailer park?"

"What are you doing, Dewey? Snooping on us? Why the interest?" I asked, a little perturbed. Sue and I had wanted to leave business at home.

"Not snooping, but remember I am a member of the press and therefore must pursue even the slightest hint of a story. I also like to invest in new companies and give them a boost to succeed. It looks like you two don't need any help, it looks like you've done quite well. I have to compliment you both, Sue comes from old money, but it appears she really has not used any of it except for this confusing trailer park purchase. I want to do something special for you two, but you're making it terribly difficult. Just what can I do?"

"Dewey, just be a friend. You've already done so much to help us gather these folks here, and have made their stay a dream come true. Sue and I are happiest when we are helping others succeed. Our success comes from that."

Dewey looked at the papers then back up, "Steve, you are a decorated Marine. You've given of yourself for your country, and from what I've read, you have defended your neighborhood, helped your sheriff's department when they needed help, and were instrumental in pointing the way to clean up a nasty drug situation. It just seems that someone, somewhere, should give something back to you."

"They have Dewey, they have." I said making a move to leave.

Sue said, "Dewey? Just be our friend and let's enjoy being together having a good time. You'll have to tell us about all the businesses you own. I suspect you own that hotel we were staying at in Anchorage, along with this one. I think Dewey, the hermit that lives on a sailboat, is probably a more interesting story than Steve and Sue. Just enjoy us, we'll enjoy you."

Dewey's eyes looked a little watery when he saluted us as we headed toward the elevators.

In the elevator I looked at Sue, "It must be really easy to find out everything there is to know about us. There is absolutely no privacy anywhere. It's probably a good thing we live in the trailer park. No one believes it, yet we have a lifestyle so rich in friends that I wouldn't trade it for anything."

"I know, honey, we make too many people curious about us. We are going to have to fly a little lower so we don't attract attention."

Sue and I spent the next hour in the hotel gym with Ben and Beth. They were surprised to find us using the weight machines when they came in to use the treadmill. We were finishing up our sets, so we waved goodbye. We would see them soon for the luau.

Sue and I enjoyed some playtime while showering and then we got ready to go. I enjoyed a martini at the lobby bar while Sue had a Virgin Mimosa. Dewey came in with a big smile, followed by Ben and Beth. We enjoyed some light conversation until the other two couples showed up.

We loaded up into the big van again and drove a couple miles up the beach, until we came upon what looked like a bunch of grass roofed shacks. Once past the primitive looking fence, beautifully tanned native Hawaiian girls in grass skirts greeted us. They wore only a real flower lei for a top. Several men were also present, wearing grass skirts but topless, displaying their deeply tanned chests.

We were escorted to a large area covered with grass mats to sit on. We were quickly handed ceramic bowls of some kind of drink that Dewey warned could be toxic if you drank too much. Special bowls were brought for Sue and Judy that Dewey said was a simple fruit punch.

There were several musicians playing simple instruments in the background, serenading us with Hawaiian folk songs, while we were served the beginning of the meal.

The meal was full of fruit, roast pig, several kinds of fish, a type of egg similar to what we call deviled egg, but a little spicy. We were served the "toxic" punch throughout the meal that seemed to be getting less potent as the meal continued. When we were finished, six of the ladies, who could even have been serving us, began doing a native dance. It wasn't just the hula that you see on TV all the time, but a kind of interpretive dance that included the hula hip movements at various times. The ladies ended their dance by doing the hula together, mesmerizing us with their gyrations.

Sue said to me, "Isn't that something. This whole evening we have been served and entertained by beautiful brown topless women, and not once was there a sexual thought in my mind. Sensuous, but not sexual, do you know what I mean?"

"You're right. These women are all beautiful. Their movements and the dancing were definitely sensuous, but not sexual. Let's see, eeny, meeny, miney, moe, which one would I like to catch by the toe?"

Sue smacked me on the shoulder, "Oh, you!"

Dewey made an announcement. "Tomorrow, we are going to Waikiki so we can go to Do Ho's restaurant. The man appears five nights a week at his restaurant, playing an organ and singing with his group. Did you know that one of his singers, a lady named Jackie, is "Tiny Bubbles?" His daughter, Hoku, sings with him as well. In the morning, those who wish to play golf have a tee time of eight o'clock, so you will have time to enjoy the beach in the afternoon. You others can spend the morning shopping, sightseeing, or just lazing on the beach. The key here, as Steve has directed, is to just enjoy yourselves."

We went back to the hotel lounge to dance and drink for a while before going to bed. I danced with all the ladies, as did the other men, including Dewey. As the evening wore on, a tall lady with a dark complexion and coal black hair became a companion of Dewey's. They appeared to know each other a little, but also seemed to click. It was good to see him have company.

Sue and I were up early. When we arrived at breakfast, there was Dewey with a big grin on his face. Next to him was the same tall, dark, lady from last night. She had that look, with her eyes half closed and a half grin. You know the "look," as if she was saying, "Bet you can guess what I've been up to." Dewey introduced Sheila to Sue and me and told her we were new and valuable friends of his. Dewey and Sheila had Bloody Marys, and I was served one almost immediately when we sat. The waitress asked Sue if she would like a Virgin Mary this morning.

Dewey asked me if Sheila could accompany the ladies in their shopping this morning while he went with the guys to play golf. Sue said, "Steve and I are going to work out in the gym, but I'm sure Sheila could go with Alice and Abe."

Sheila said, "Oh, please, I would be happy to go to the gym with you."

Having heard her accent many times in Alaska, I asked where in Canada she was from.

"You know how that I am from Canada?" Sheila asked questioning me.

Dewey was laughing and said softly to her, "Sheila, your beautiful French Canadian accent is easy to identify."

Sheila looked at us and said, "You really like my talk? You like my sound? You all are so very nice to say that."

The other folks began coming in with everyone, except Abe and Alice, dressed for golf. Ben was saying that Sue and I should take up golf, but Sue said there were other games she enjoyed more. When I asked Alice and Abe what their plans were this morning, Abe said they were going to take a helicopter ride to the volcano again, but this time they would also skirt the coast to see some of the beautiful cliffs along the shore.

Sue told Sheila she should change clothes and that we would meet her at the gym. Sheila asked Sue to go with her, so that she would be sure to find us. Sue went with Sheila, and I would meet them in our suite. Ten minutes later, Sheila showed up with a spandex exercise outfit that let you see every curve on her. She was well built, but nowhere as heavy as Sue is on top. Sue put on some shorts and a T-shirt and we went to the gym.

Sue and I started with the treadmill but we both only walked. Neither one of us can run worth a hoot. Sheila, however, began slow but progressed to a six mile an hour run that she modified with some incline as she went along. She quit at thirty minutes to cool down, while Sue and I walked at our three and half mile an hour pace for forty-five minutes.

Sue began using the machines and I began with free weights. Sheila was right there with me using lighter weights, but keeping pace with me. When she began doing presses, I spotted her, and when it was my turn she spotted for me. We lifted and used machines for almost an hour. All three of us were dripping wet. I suggested we shower then go out on the beach for a while. Once again, Sheila wanted Sue to accompany her to get her swimsuit. I showered and put on my trunks and was sitting at the sliding window when the girls came.

Sue said they were going to shower and would be out quickly. "Quickly" turned into nearly forty-five minutes. Sue had on her indecent bikini, and Sheila had on some cloth that covered only the vital spots. Note I did not say areas; spots. Between the two of them, I immediately had to use my towel to cover my interest. Sue now had a shit eating grin. I wondered what she was up to.

We grabbed our big bottle of tanning lotion and went downstairs. On the way through the lobby, a bellhop walked into a column, and one of the desk guys began choking. The two girls together were enough to melt the stone statue in the fountain.

We greased up then played in the water for a while, attempting to body surf again. We all did pretty well, but both Sue and Sheila had to pull up or pull down their tops each time they coasted to the shore or they would have been totally uncovered. I was enjoying the show. Several other men were sneaking peeks as well when their wives weren't watching.

We decided to just get some sun for a while so we greased up again. I put some oil on Sheila's and Sue's back and the back of their legs. I managed to cover both their exposed cheeks to keep them from burning as well. They insisted on oiling and massaging me. Both of them were a little careless, sliding their hands under the leg of my swimsuit. By the time they had me slicked up, I was really up.

We only sunned ourselves about a half-hour on each side, and decided we needed another shower, then we would get lunch. We did the escort duty to Sheila's room first, but all together this time, then we went up to our suite to get dressed. Sue told me to shower first, as I was always fast.

I hardly had time to turn on the water before Sue joined me in the shower. She said she was hotter than a firecracker and needed some help. I helped her out until we were joined by Sheila. She wanted to play too, but I said that perhaps Dewey wouldn't appreciate it, so I finished my shower and got out.

I dried off, put on shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, and was then treated to two tanned nymphs coming from the shower, showing me all that could be shown. It was enough that I had to make myself a martini at the bar in the suite. It took both girls forever to finally put on panties. They slid on shorts, but then stood in front of one another for a few minutes, teasing by lifting and jostling their boobs, comparing them. Sheila was fairly well endowed but she was probably ten to fifteen years older than Sue, so hers had a sexy sag to them. Sue's of course are like two party balloons with tantalizing nipples protruding. They finally covered the temptations with skimpy halters before we went down to lunch.

Everyone was back from their excursions and golf. None had showered or changed yet, but all were enjoying liquid libations in the bar/restaurant. We ate a hearty lunch, then agreed we would go into Waikiki early so we could look around before going to Don Ho's place for dinner and entertainment.

The others left to shower and change while Sue and Sheila went to the clothing store in the hotel to get some of the things Sue had ordered. I found it funny that Sue had to buy some of the clothing she manufactured in order to get clothes that fit. We hadn't thought about coming here so we hadn't packed much more than casual clothes. Sheila had picked up a dress too, so we all went up to the suite where I was once again treated to the teasing of two topless ladies. While they were putting on makeup and fixing each other's hair there was a knock on the door. When I went to the door it was Dewey. They girls didn't even flinch. Sheila said, "Dewey will come, please let him in."

I welcomed him in and fixed him a drink. We sat viewing the spectacle the two ladies were putting on for us. Dewey was as much at attention as I was as he was continuously having to re-arrange himself. His only comment was, "My God, Sheila is really well built, but oh my, Sue is awesome."

Sue heard that and turned to him and hefted them for him. "They're all me too. Wait till I have my son, these babies will really be big."

Dewey rolled his eyes and got up to fix himself another drink.

The girls began moving a little faster getting ready. I guess they had accomplished what they set out to do if it was to perk up the libido of two men. I think Dewey and I were "up" for anything at that moment.

We met downstairs in the lobby. The ten of us boarded the van again and headed off. We didn't arrive till around five but it was still too early to go eat. We walked around a little, looking into stores and such. Sue was constantly getting something for Hanna, or Betty, or Joan. She got something for every one of the women we knew. Judy was getting things for all her girls as well. I figured on going to a Harley dealership and buying a gross of T-shirts and shipping them back to the shop. All the guys would love that. I could mess with my friend Hap and send him a pile of T-shirts too. That would put a cork in him for a while.

Dewey had made reservations for the restaurant that were right in front of the low stage. The stage was arranged so that the organ Don Ho played was at a higher level than the stage. His backup singers would be at the customer level while he was featured higher up. We had food that was almost a repeat of the night before except there were more interesting fish dishes this night. There were vegetable fruit mixtures that were delicious too. The food was served with various wines chosen by Dewey, our host for the evening.

The performers were great. Jackie, the lady nicknamed "Tiny Bubbles," was a big lady, probably close to three hundred pounds. When she came on stage, Sue squealed because Jackie was wearing one of the new styles of limited manufacture dresses that had been shown in New York. Do Ho's daughter was a fox. Best of all, they were all great entertainers. We even heard Tiny Bubbles performed by the master.

At a break, Don Ho came to the table to say hi to Dewey. I thought Alice and Judy were going to have a stroke. They were swooning over the guy. Don Ho had a waitress bring two promotional photos and he signed them both, wishing each lady a happy time while we were there. That night was Alice's dream. I would have bet both ladies panties were wet.

We left to make room for more folks to eat and be entertained. At the hotel we once again enjoyed drinks and dancing in the bar/restaurant turned lounge. This night I danced with all the ladies, including Sheila, who was doing her best to rub all of her front against my front. Whew, what temptation. I'm sure Dewey was enjoying being stabbed by Sue's twin peaks.

Dewey said the tee time for tomorrow was the same and that Sue and I had an appointment with a surfing instructor. Sheila said she wanted to come with us, so Dewey said he would arrange for her to take lessons as well. Abe and Alice said they were going to sleep late and then enjoy the beach.

We headed our separate ways to enjoy our own private moments. Sue and I made love till we couldn't any longer before falling asleep entangled in the sheets.

Sue and I woke at our usual time, took pleasure in our shower, and dressed in our swimwear, with me wearing a shirt. Sue wore her "big girls" swimsuit separates under shorts and a T-shirt. We brought a couple of towels with us in case we needed them.

Breakfast was liquor laden as usual. Sheila joined Sue in drinking Virgin Bloody Marys. She said she had been drinking more than she was used to. Dewey said Sheila was going to have to go into training so she could keep up with him.

After breakfast, the golfers all left together after we were introduced to a tanned guy in his thirties. We went out to his four door pickup that had a rack in the back with six surf boards. The sign on the truck said, "Steve's Surfing School." It was a Steve meet Steve, Steve, Steve. He and I grinned at each other, amused at how it all sounded. He lightened the mood by saying, "Refer to me as Master Steve and to this guy as Grasshopper Steve."

We drove to the other side of the island where Steve said the waves had been great for more than a week. When we arrived it was easy to see what he meant. Some of the waves looked to be thirty feet tall. There were probably two dozen people on surfboards catching waves. It was pretty orderly as they took turns. Occasionally two people would catch the same wave but would head off in different directions.

Steve went through a description of what we would feel and how we should react. Since we were new to the sport, he had us put on slim life jackets. Sue's was a little difficult to fit but she was able to get it done. Steve dug a hole for the fin and put a board on the sand. He showed us how to get up on the board and how to stand. He said that at first we would take the small waves, to practice catching the swell and to practice standing up on a moving board. He double-checked with us again to make sure we knew how to swim, and that our life jackets were secure. The surprising thing was that Steve wore a life jacket as well, saying that in the event he had to help someone, the extra buoyancy would help.

We pushed our boards out till we were deep enough to climb on and paddle out a distance. We stayed away from the mainstream surfers but still had some huge swells that rode into a sandy beach.

We were probably two hundred yards from shore when Steve told us to watch him. He began paddling forward, then caught a swell. He was on the down slope when he pulled his legs under him and stood, just as he had demonstrated on the beach. Before he had gone far he jumped off, then paddled back to us.

He told me to try, so I began paddling before the wave swelled under me. As the board began tilting downward, I was able to get my feet under me and actually rode the wave all the way to the beach. That was fun. When I looked back, Sue was standing on her board riding a wave and Sheila was climbing up to stand on hers. We three immediately paddled back out to try it again. He said that this time we could all three take the next wave and he would join us. The next big swell took all four of us all the way to the beach. Steve said, "See, nothing to it."

"Now, Dewey said you wanted to surf in the pipe at least once. You know you're going to get trashed when it closes on you, right?"

"I'm going to try to stay in front of it, but if I get covered, it happens. I know that surfing under a huge wave is difficult."

"Not only difficult, it can be dangerous. You can break arms, legs, even necks. I just wanted to make sure you knew there was a risk. Do you want to practice on swells a little longer, or are you ready to try some big waves?"

Sue said, "I want to try some bigger waves, but I don't want to do anything fancy or too dangerous."

Sheila seconded that and said she wanted to surf with Sue. The four of us paddled out to the group waiting for big waves. Steve explained to the other surfers that we were newbies and were going to take large swells first, but would give way to the other surfers for the good waves. They nodded, knowing that all surfers had to start somewhere.

The three of us were able to catch three straight big swells that actually began breaking as they rolled into the beach. We immediately paddled back out to wait for another turn. The old time surfers directed us to some even bigger swells that we could ride together.

When I paddled back out, Steve asked me if I was ready for a big one.

"Why not? I really want to ride right down in one of those big ones. That has to be a really great feeling."

A nearby surfer said, "It is man, it really is. Every time you get in the tunnel it's like wow, what power. I usually get trashed, but I sometimes ride out of it."

Steve told me to watch him as he took a big wave. He was riding at the peak of the wave, then directed his board into the hollowed out area of the wave. He must have misjudged, as when the wave rolled in, Steve wasn't there. He and his board popped up about fifty feet from shore. He immediately began paddling back. The older surfer took a wave and rode it nicely, even diving into the curl riding out the other side. Steve said that's the way to do it.

Steve was watching the incoming waves, sending the girls on the big swells until he said to me, "See that hump? Take this one, it's a good one."

I began paddling, judging the speed of the huge swell. As it lifted me, I jumped up to stand on the board, riding the top as it broke. I could see down inside the curl, so I directed the board down to ride inside. I went inside alright, straight through as the wave collapsed on me. I think the water must have pushed me down twenty to thirty feet before I began rolling, then going up. I think the board and I shot out of the water five feet when we surfaced. Wow, what power.

I immediately began paddling back. The girls were getting worn out, paddling back out after riding the big swells. Steve asked me how it was and all I could do is grin. One of the other surfers said, "It's like a drug man, pure adrenaline. A sweet, sweet drug."

The next wave I took was not as big and when it broke, I rode down into the curl keeping the board tip out of the water. I actually rode within a small curl for a second before shooting out the end.

I kept this up for over an hour before I saw another huge hump as Steve called it. An older surfer hollered at me, "It's your turn, you want it?"

I was already paddling as fast as I could. As the swell lifted me, I jumped up to ride the wave as it broke. This time I was in front of it and dove right down inside a massive moving water tunnel. This was it, this was what I had always wanted to do. I kept my balance as the power of the wave increased then settled. I shot out the far end of the wave, almost a quarter mile from where the others were.

Slowly paddling back, I had to make up my mind whether I really wanted to try more, or to just leave the memory of that big one as the best. The adventure won out and I lined up again to wait. Steve congratulated me on riding a great wave all the way through saying, "It's addicting, isn't it?"

As Steve's turn came, a huge hump was coming. He yelled, "You take this one, I'll get the next. When you're done with this one, paddle in."

This one was even bigger than the last, but I was able to get right up on top of it for that split second before diving into the curl. I was able to keep from swamping and was able to feel the massive power of the water surrounding me as I shot out the end.

Thirty seconds later, Steve came roaring out of a tunnel following me.

Back on shore, Steve said the waves were getting too big for beginners. He said they were getting to the point they could be dangerous even for experienced surfers. We watched as surfer after surfer began coming to the beach, looking back at the giant waves, shaking their heads.

Sue, Sheila, and I thought the day had been successful. Sue said she took a couple of pictures of me surfing. She said she had one of me right on top of the breaking wave and one of me coming out of the curl. I'll treasure those.

Steve took us back to hotel where I stuffed some bills in his hand and told him that it was between us, not just from Dewey. He grinned and thanked Sue and me, making us promise to look him up when, not if, but when, we came back. Sue and I were laughing at that as we went into the hotel.

Sue showed me the pictures on the LCD screen. She had Sheila take a picture of her riding a giant swell that was breaking, so everyone was going to see my pregnant wife being a daredevil out on the waves.

The three of us procured Sheila's clothes, then we went to our suite and took a shower. I took mine first, joined by Sue, and after a few minutes, Sheila. I pinched some nipples but got out before I embarrassed myself. I was dressed in shorts and Hawaiian shirt when Dewey knocked on the door. Once again, we were treated to a show of our two nude nymphs as they were taking their time dressing. It was a serious enough show that Dewey and I had to have seconds from the in-room bar before they were done.

We ate lunch, then Dewey asked if we wanted to go fishing this afternoon and part of the evening, or all day tomorrow. Everyone seemed to want to just lay around by the hotel pool or to lay out on the beach for the rest of the day. I didn't care one way or another, so Sue and I put on swimsuits and went out to the beach. Beth and Ben came with us. Beth wore a pretty skimpy bikini, but it didn't show near what her daughter's suit showed. Sue and Beth were able to have a long talk. We stayed in the sun for over an hour, then decided we had had enough. We wandered over to the outdoor bar and joined the rest of our group.

We finally got the lowdown on how Sheila and Dewey got together. They met at the airport in Alaska. Dewey had stopped to see John and was getting ready to take off when he saw Sheila having trouble at the ticket counter. Someone had screwed up and there wasn't room on the flight for her. The airline didn't want to give her a first class seat even though it was their fault that she was without a seat. Apparently, Dewey had pull, or at least had money as Sue and I knew, but he forced the airline to put Sheila in first class with him. They had talked the entire trip and had become fast friends by the time they arrived in Hawaii. Dewey had her cancel her reservations and got her a room in his hotel. She still didn't know it was his hotel, but was happy to be spending her vacation with us, and especially with Dewey.

We didn't dress up for supper, but wore shorts and T-shirts or halters to dine at the hotel. We had normal people food, some big thick steaks for the men and some fancy chicken dishes for the ladies. We adjourned to the lounge for dancing and drinking, but lost Abe, Alice, Phil, and Judy right away. Ben and Beth stayed with us a while, long enough that I danced with Beth a couple of times and enjoyed her twins as much as Sue's. That family does have some headlights. Sue and I said we were going to call it night after they left and would see them in the morning to go fishing.

This was a real vacation. We lounged in our suite for a while, enjoying the ocean breeze into the room. We sat out on the little deck a while, then went to bed to make love until we were sated.
