ASSTR Standard Header System
Header Generation Form

The purpose of the following form is to assist authors in making use of the ASSTR Standard Header System. After filling out the form with the requested information, press the Generate Headers button to see the SHS-compliant headers for both ASCII text/MS Word docs and web (HTML) pages.

All of the headers below are optional; however, ASSTR recommends everyone use the author, title, and either the keywords or summary headers at a minimum. Using these headers will make the most use of the system, enabling readers to more easily locate your stories.

Click on any of the headers below to view the relevant section of the SHS Header FAQ pertaining to that header in a separate window.

Author:

The name of the author or authors who wrote the work.
Examples: John Smith, Jack and Judy Stevens, Jack 'the Ripper' Johnson

Title:

The title of the work.
Examples: Singing In the Rain - And more, Sex: Happy Times For All

Part:

If the work is divided into multiple files, use this header to specify which part of the work is contained in this file.
Examples: 1 of 2, Chapter 6, Part 2 of 7

Universe:

If the work is one story in a larger series, such as a Bill Morgan's 'Alison Clifford' saga or fan-fiction, use this header to specify the series to which the work belongs.
Examples: Alison Clifford, Full House

Summary:

Enter a short (200 characters or less) summary for the work. Summaries are used in various places on the ASSTR site to give readers an idea of what a story is about.
Example: A look into the life of Stacy Kenton during her high school years as a varsity cheerleader.

Keywords:

Keywords are a concise way to indicate what events or themes a story contains. Separate multiple story codes or keywords with a comma. For an explanation on how to use story codes, see Uther Pendragon's Story Codes for Authors FAQ.
Examples: mc, nc, mf, ff, growth; teen, pett, mast

Language:

For stories written in languages other than English, this header allows an author to specify in which language the work was written. This enables readers to more easily find stories written in a specific language.
Examples: German, French, Spanish, Japanese, etc.
