Commentary |
This story takes place in the north of
England. The author includes a short
glossary of terms that may be unfamiliar to
Americans. I found it very helpful. This is really two stories, not one. First, there is the story of how Ellie and Carl wind up sleeping together [Chapters 1-4]. Second, there is the story of how Ellie comes to realize that she is more than just another pretty face [Chapters 5 & 6]. I liked the first "story" better than I did the second one. It could have something to do with the fact that there is sex in the first "story" and only a mention of sex in the second "story". I think there is more to it than that. The first "story" seems to flow more smoothly. The second "story" seems rushed. |
