SUMMARY: While visiting his friends Perry and Jessica, Denny, age 42, ends up in a very compromising position with Diana, their fifteen-year-old daughter.

COMMENTARY: I really like the narration in this story. The author does a beautiful job conveying the pleasures, fears, and doubts that Denny experiences. He can't relax enough to enjoy the moment. Fear of discovery and his own sense of morals get in the way. Yet, it wouldn't be much of a story if he didn't enjoy himself to some degree and it is obvious that he does derive some pleasure from the night he spends in Diana's arms. Complex characters, like Denny, are so much more interesting than simple ones.
The other thing that stands out is the way the story begins and ends: with Denny praying to God for guidance. It wasn't clear to me until I had read the entire story what his problem was exactly. I figured that it had something to do with the Diana. As I read I tried to figure out what it was that happened that has Denny in such a state at the beginning of the story. Did they get caught by her parents? Did he get her pregnant? Was he recounting the story from a prison cell? I didn't figure it out, but that's okay. If I had been able to figure it out too easily then I probably wouldn't be recommending this story.
