Frequently Asked Questions about the Festival
Q. Who is in charge of this festival? A. I suppose me, Kelly Adams. You may remember me from my "Bedtime Stories with Kelly" series and/or my more recent "Walnut Grove" series. I'm also one of the moderators for assm.
Q. Why? And why you? A. After the success of the recent Summer Solstice Romance Festival, I mentioned to a few people that a lesbian story festival wound be pretty neat. They agreed, and so I took it upon myself to organize the festival. (Big thanks to the members of SEWG, particularly lovely and talented Katie McN, for their help and advice).
Q. Who was this Sappho person? A. As mentioned in the intro above, Sappho was a famous Greek lyric poet whose claim to fame was that most of her poetry centered on the theme of woman-love. She was also quite innovative in other aspects of her poetry, and was very famous in her day. you can read more about Sappho at http://www.sappho.com/poetry/historical/sappho.html or in any decent encyclopedia.
Q. How do you know that September 7 is Sappho's birthday? A. While it is true that there is no historical record of Sappho's birthdate, the poet herself came to me in a dream, proceded to apply some fantastic cunilingus, then, after my third orgasm, she whispered the date of her birthday in my ear. ;)
Q. I don't want to write a lesbian story or poem. Can I still participate in the festival? A. You can participate by reading stories and offering feedback to the writers.
Q. Isn't a lesbian-only festival discriminatory? A. Not at all. Anyone can write a lesbian-themed story or poem, no matter your sexual persuasion. If you've never written one before, try it--you just might find that you like it :)
Q. My story is mostly lesbian, but there is a short hetero sex scene. Is that okay? A. The festival is for erotica that is primarily lesbian. A story with lots of lesbian sex and a small bit of hetero content is probably okay, but a mainly hetero story that just happens to have a short lesbian bit is not keeping with the spirit of the festival. No one will be policing the content of the festival stories, so you'll be left to your own best judgment. (Also don't forget to code your story properly or otherwise warn readers if you include a bit of hetero sex).
