Full Moon

Written: February 8, 2003

Full Moon is the product of a correspondence with a bright young woman.  On the heels of a Yahoo Groups running story, in which different contributors wrote their character's perspectives to combine into a sprawling storyline, I had created a group of my own called Silken Web.  I would be incredibly surprised if anyone actually remembered it because it existed only for a few months.  The idea was that I moderated a Fantasy Island resort where clients requested a kinky fantasy, which the corporation called Silken Web would then fulfill.  The writing was to be back and forth, each contributor advancing the storyline from their own character's perspective.  I was very fortunate to have, as my first contributor, this wonderfully creative and inward-looking young woman, Violet.  I've written a few stories with her in mind, Violet (of course!), Violet Mist (not too creative with the title there, I know), and to some extent Red Sky.  Violet introduced me to P.J. Harvey, a different sensuality, and Paganism.  We corresponded for a few years and then, like many Net friendships, she simply slipped away.

Paganism, in many ways, stands as one of the arch-enemies of Christianity.  I won't go into a one-sided theological opinion piece - suffice to say, please respect the energy and serenity that went into this story without getting your dander up.  There is a ritual of cleansing in the Pagan world that begins with the feet and acknowledges the various parts of the body as wells of power or energy.  I could write a lengthy paper describing the background for the things that are done in Full Moon but I'm not good at paper-writing (primarily because I don't think it is fun in the least and if I'm not going to have fun, I'm likely not going to do it!)  If you are interested, the Net is as good a resource as any - I won't list any specific links to some of the fantastic sites that deal with this spirituality - a good Google search should work well.

This piece was one of the stories I wrote for Violet.  Being a switch like me, she gave me the assignment of writing something built around the cleansing ritual, with her in the dominant role and myself in the submissive.  Although written in the dreaded "me and you" narrative, I tried to capture the synergy between nature and sexual energy and the beauty that can exist inside our own bodies, and the charged energy of ritually submitting to your love.

Please send comments, criticism, or just good old praise to toran29@yahoo.com.  I request that you NOT send theological Pagan-bashing ideas.  You're better than that.
