And it only took me just over a week since I completed the second part too, which is fairly impressive for me at least. Though admittedly this part is a fair bit shorter then the other two were, so that was a contributing factor. In the time between the posting of this and when I'll eventually manage to post the first part of my third story, I could always use more feedback to serve as inspiration of a sort and to potentially speed up the pace at which I write. Those who care to can send me an e-mail at SyntheticDivine@aol.com to offer their opinions, but once more make sure to use "Dead People Aren't Toys" as the topic, or I might confuse it for spam and delete it. It is highly suggested that Parts 1 and 2 of this story be read before this one, to avoid confusion. Especially since there's no sex in this the third part, just the conclusion to the plot built by the first two, which possess the brunt of the sex. Although technically I suppose there is a very slightly sexual situation in this the third one, it could also be said that it's not really a sexual situation at all so, you can decide the semantics for yourself. Because the sex resides in the first and second parts, and the warnings on the perversities contained in the story are in the notes of the first part, there's no point for my repeating them here. I will also reveal at this point that the next three stories I'm going to be writing are already in planning. The next two will be "Fear The Void Below" and "Bible Black", and yes I borrowed the name for the second of those two from the hentai series by the same name, though the base similarities between the two will only be extremely slight, for the most part I just liked the name. The fifth story, which I haven't decided on a name for yet, will actually be a story that acts as a continuation of all four stories that came before. Carrying characters from all four stories, and beginning with the Leon and Max continuation I said might occur at the end of "The Cycle of Corruption". I figured those of you who've read all four stories by that point might enjoy that. That could still be a distance away though so for now we'll just concentrate on "Fear The Void Below" which I'll be starting work on soon. Until then, enjoy Part 3 of this story, which I present to you now. *** Dead People Aren't Toys: Part 3 Seth was halfway home when he sensed Thade's presence. He couldn't explain how he sensed it. He could just feel the ghost near him. It was kind of like the feeling of being watched, only amplified several times over. Seth nervously kept driving, worried that any second the blissful state was going to come over him, but it never did. After a minute or so though, a voice finally echoed in his head. 'So you met a freak.' The words flowed like thoughts through his head, and he knew quite well they didn't come from him. 'You had to know I'd find out the next time I looked into your mind, Seth. Do you really think it'll make a difference? Do you really think he can save you? Because he can't, I promise you that.' "So what he said was true then." Seth murmured to the open air, Thade's comments pretty much confirming it in his own mind. "About freaks. About the ritual. About everything. It's all true." There was a long pause, and then. 'Yeah, it's true.' The words echoed through his head. 'I'm going to become a god, Seth. And not Shawn, nor you, nor anyone else is going to stop that.' "A Shadow Mind... Is not a god." Seth said, though he wasn't entirely sure of it himself. Still, from what Shawn had said it seemed to be accurate. 'What is a god, if not a supremely powerful being?' The voice whispered in his head. 'Perhaps I won't be all- powerful, but I'll be as close as this world ever gets to a god.' "Even though you know you'll become hunted by all the other True Mind things? Shawn made it seem like you wouldn't have a very long life expectancy. It'd just be a question of how many people you'd manage to take with you." Seth stated. 'I'll survive, I'll find a way. I've worked too hard for this to let anything take it away from me. Besides, you should worry more about yourself right now.' The words echoed in his head. Again Seth felt the worry that any second Thade might take control, but just the same he kept his voice calm as he spoke. "Why?" There was a soft laugh in his head. 'Why Seth, my boy.. Once I've gotten what I want, what reason do you think I'll have to keep anyone else in the group alive?' the words carried a tinge of amusement as they passed through his mind. It was at that moment that something really weird happened. It was just as Seth was really focusing on Thade's words that he suddenly felt it. Like he was touching a second mind, in a way that was both similar and quite different from how Thade had touched Mandy's mind in his dream. He could see a thought that had been floating on the surface. An image. He only caught a glimpse of it for a split second but it was enough to make his blood run cold. Then almost as soon as he'd seen it he felt his touch on the other mind forcefully snap. It was like mentally being thrown backwards, and for a second he felt a surge of disorientation sweep through him, but just as quickly it was gone. He could however feel a sudden palpable rage exuding around him. 'STAY OUT OF MY HEAD!' the words pounded into his head so strongly that he actually winced, and just like that he suddenly felt Thade's presence vanish. The image he'd seen though, the thought that had been passing across Thade's mind.. He had to get to Mandy, and quickly. She was the only one who'd know where they needed to go. *** Mandy was sitting in the car next to him. Seth had just picked her up and they'd left the house a minute before. As it turned out, Jake's house wasn't all that far from theirs. It had only taken him a minute to convince her of the importance of their heading over to Jake's, even though he'd been unwilling to tell her why. "So you haven't spoken to him in days?" Seth asked his little sister as he pressed on the gas, determined to get there as quickly as possible. "No, not since just after we used the board. I called his house a few times, but I always got the answering machine. Why, Seth? What the hell is going on?" She asked for perhaps the half-dozenth time. "You'll find out when we get there." He told her yet again, not wanting to reveal to her what he'd seen. At least, not until he was sure it was actually true. "Did something happen to Jake? You have to tell me." she demanded. "I don't know." He told her. It was true enough until he was sure. "You have to know something. You wouldn't be doing this just out of the blue." She said, and he couldn't really refute her logic. "Let's just say I have a suspicion.." Seth said, but when she went to open her mouth again he cut her off. "And don't ask me what it is. We're only a couple minutes out, you can wait 'till we get there." She just gave him a look that he couldn't really read and fell into silence. It only took a couple minutes more before they were pulling into what Mandy confirmed to be Jake's driveway. "Stay here, I'll be back in a minute." He told her as he opened the door of his car and climbed out. "Fuck that." She responded vehemently as she exited the car on the other side. "There is no way you're making me wait in the car after you kept telling me I'd find out when we got here." Seth was about to say something sharp back but he could tell from the look on her face that it wouldn't do him any good. So with a deep breath he just turned and walked towards the front door of the house, Mandy hot on his heels. On reaching it, he just lifted his hand and delivered a few sharp knocks, strongly hoping someone would answer the door and lay his worries to rest. When about half a minute passed with no response, though, he grasped the doorknob and tried turning it. It was unlocked. Slowly he pushed the door open, and the stench that hit him at that moment made him have to swallow hard to avoid vomiting. "What's that smell?" Mandy asked from behind him, her voice barely more then a whisper. Glancing back, he saw her clenching her fingers over her nose to try and block it out. "Mandy, stay here." He told her, his voice firm this time. When she looked about to object, he went on. "Please, for once, just trust me. I promise you I'll tell you everything as soon as I get back. But whatever you do you cannot enter this house. Please. Just stay here, ok?" she hesitated for several seconds, but finally gave a short if reluctant nod. Slowly stepping inside the door, he turned left down the only available hallway, careful not to touch anything as he moved. The smell was nearly choking him with every step he took, but he did his best to bear it as much as he could. Passing through a kitchen, he stepped off through a doorway on the right side of the room and into a living room. It was here that he came face to face with the image he'd seen in Thade's mind, only it wasn't quite the same. The image in Thade's memory had come from after it had just happened, and it had been days at the very least since then. The stench of decay was even more overwhelming here, but Seth couldn't turn away from the sight before him. Two adult corpses sat right beside each other on the couch. Seth could only assume they'd been Jake's parents. From what he could see, it looked like they'd both been stabbed to death. But they'd have to have been dragged to the couch and positioned where they were, as Seth could not envision a situation where they'd have both wound up in those positions during or immediately after the stabbing itself. Besides, there were no large pools of congealed blood on or around the couch itself. Jake's body was hanging from a hook in the ceiling. Seth wasn't sure what the hook had originally been intended for, but a rope had been tied around it and the other end had been fixed around Jake's neck. A knife was laying on the floor beneath him, and it at least actually did have congealed blood on it. The bodies had been decomposing long enough to attract flies. And perhaps other things, but Seth wasn't inclined to move in for a closer look, the bodies were gruesome enough even from a distance. Already he was having to keep a firm grip on himself to suppress the urge to vomit that kept trying to surface. It was clear enough what had happened. Thade had taken control of Jake, forced him to kill his parents, and then forced him to kill himself. From the look of the bodies it might even have happened before Thade first took control of Karen, the one night. Gazing at Jake's body, Seth couldn't help but morbidly wonder if the blissful state had lasted even while he was suffocating. Slowly, Seth turned, once more careful not to touch anything as he walked out. He wasn't sure they could call the police just yet, and he didn't want to leave fingerprints on anything until they could. If the police got involved now, members of the group could wind up being closely watched for the next two or three days, and that could in and of itself ruin any chance they might have of stopping Thade. Passing through the open front door, Seth saw Mandy standing a few feet away, waiting for him. Carefully he grabbed the doorknob and drew the front door closed behind him, grasping Mandy by the shoulder and guiding her a few yards away to take several long deep breaths of the fresh air beyond. It was an unbelievable relief to clear of the smell of decay from his lungs, though there seemed to be a residual sort of after-smell in his head that he was having a hard time shaking. Mandy was just staring at him, waiting, so finally after several more breaths he turned his focus to her. "Mandy..." He started, then paused. He wasn't quite sure how to tell her. From the look in her eyes already he could see the fear, the worry. With everything she'd already had to deal with with Thade, she shouldn't have to go through something like this. Just the same, he couldn't bring himself to lie to her about it. "Jake... He's dead, Mandy.. I'm sorry." He said very softly. For several long seconds she just stared at him. He could see her trembling ever so slightly, and the tears beginning to form in her eyes. "No." She finally just whispered, shaking her head firmly, even as the tears began to spill down her cheeks. "I'm sorry..." Seth repeated, wrapping his arms around his sister and pulling her in tightly against him. "Thade did it, I'm sure of it.. Both Jake and his parents... It's not a pretty sight. That's why I didn't want you to see." He told her, his sister just pressing her face against his chest as she cried, not resisting his holding her. He wanted to tell her something comforting. He wanted to say that somehow Thade would pay for doing it, that he wouldn't get away with it, but he couldn't. He couldn't promise her anything of the sort. He couldn't tell her that they were all going to get through this without anyone else getting hurt, either. He did finally think of something he could say, though. "I don't think he suffered." He murmured softly. It wasn't much, but at least it was something. "I just thought he was mad." Mandy said in a choked voice, the tears still streaking her cheeks. "I just thought he didn't want to talk to me because of what happened, that he'd get over it after a little while. I never thought he might be... That Thade might have..." She just let out a choked sob, clinging to him as she pressed her face to his chest. "I know, I never thought of it either." Seth whispered, gently stroking his sister's back in a comforting manner. For a couple moments more she just cried, occasionally letting out a little sob but for the most part remaining silent in her grief. Finally though she pulled out of his arms, her face still showing a deep depression, but at least her tears had come to a stop. He waited for her to say something but she just stood there, staring at the ground. "Here." He murmured softly, gently taking her by the upper arm and guiding her over to the passenger side door of the car, opening it for her and helping her in before closing it behind her. Walking around to the driver's side, he slipped into the car himself. He'd just slid the key into the ignition when a surge of disorientation swept over him. For a second he could feel Thade, even though he didn't feel like he was anywhere near them. And then suddenly things went dark. *** Seth was in Karen's room, hovering near her bed. Once more he had to say hovering, because he neither made contact with the floor nor was he floating. Almost instantly he realized he had to be seeing through Thade's eyes again. Or, whatever it was Thade saw through, since he didn't really have eyes anymore. 'Seth. Just in time.' The voice whispered in his head. And it was only then that he actually realized what he was seeing. Sara was naked, tied to the bed, and gagged. Without even looking he could somehow tell from contact with Thade that Lily was also naked, gagged, and tied to the chair behind him, where Seth had first been on the night they'd used the ouija board. Karen however was fully clothed, kneeling on the bed next to Sara. Seth could feel Thade's fingers in her mind. This couldn't be though. He'd just been at the house to pick up Mandy maybe ten minutes before. He didn't think Thade could've managed all this in less time then that unless.. Lily and Sara had already been in Karen's room when he'd picked Mandy up. 'Precisely.' Thade's words echoed in his mind, and there was a soft laugh. It was then that he noticed Karen's stereo was on. A CD was actually playing this time, he recognized it as one of Karen's that he'd heard her play before. It was the Deftones, set to the song "MX". Seth could feel Thade's amusement. 'Good music to die by, don't you think?' Karen's right hand was lightly stroking Sara's bare stomach, but her left hand was closed around the handle of a kitchen knife. He could see the fear in Sara's eyes, and he could hear muffled sounds coming from behind the gag. She was obviously trying to say something to her friend, but Karen wasn't listening. Thade wouldn't let her listen. Karen's right hand slid down between Sara's thighs, her fingers lightly playing over the lips of the girl's pussy. The muffled noises from behind the gag became louder and more insistent as the clothed girl pressed a finger into the bound one's exposed cunt, but Karen just ignored her. Carefully sliding her finger back and forth for a couple short strokes inside the older girl's pussy and then drawing it smoothly back out, Karen brought the finger up and very lightly drew it along the edge of the blade. Then, with a smile, she began to lean in. At that instant Seth felt his eyes snap open. *** "Seth? Seth!" A voice was calling to him as he came to, his head was against the steering wheel and there was a hand on his shoulder, shaking him. Slowly lifting himself, he glanced over to find Mandy staring at him. "You.. You must've passed out." She said softly as she watched him. "For a second I thought you were.. I thought.." She said, her voice quavering. She looked ready to cry again. "I'm sorry." He told her, almost impulsively. He didn't want to see her break down again, but at the moment they didn't really have time to deal with it, there were more pressing matters at hand. "Mandy, was Karen home when I got to the house to get you?" he asked his little sister as he grabbed the keys, still in the ignition, and started the car. "Yeah. Lily and Sara got there a little ago and they were all up in her room.." Mandy said, worry seemingly etched into her features. "Why?" She said, the quavering note once more back. "Don't worry, nothing's happened yet, I don't think. But we need to get back there, fast." He told the girl as he kicked the car into gear and slammed on the gas. It only took a few minutes to get back to the house, and almost instantly he was out of the car, rushing towards the front door. He could hear Mandy in pursuit, but he didn't wait for her, instead just flinging the door open and charging up the stairs that waited just inside. Karen's room was near the front of the second floor hall, so when he reached the top of the stairs he only had to take a few more steps to reach her door, which was already standing open. The sight inside nearly drove him to his knees. Very slowly he took a few steps inside the room, and faintly he heard Mandy arrive behind him, heard her gasp. In the chair, Lily's throat had been cut. Her chest was covered in blood, though the very top of it was obscured by her head hanging forward. It made it tough to see the wound itself, but it was still visible if you looked from the right angle. On the bed, several long deep cuts had been slashed across Sara's chest and stomach before the knife had been buried into her chest. Seth felt his stomach churn.. It had only been a few minutes, but they were both dead. Both dead. Seth could feel himself starting to lose it. He wanted to throw up, to scream, to beat his fists against a wall until they were bloody, to tear something apart, anything to get what he was seeing out of his head. He couldn't handle this. Not this. Just then he felt him. Thade. He'd just started to pinpoint the source of the feeling when he heard the gunshot. Immediately he spun towards the sound, but even as he was turning a second shot rang out, and a third. Seth could see Karen standing in the doorway, the gun that had been at Lily's house resting in her hands. And then he noticed the red that was suddenly blossoming over the front of Mandy's shirt. Mandy just looked down at it, and then back up at him. She seemed to try to say something, she staggered forward a step, but just like that she was suddenly collapsing. He lunged forward just in time to catch her in his arms. Horrified, he stared down into her eyes, watched his sister die. It only took a few seconds before she was completely still. And suddenly he couldn't think, he could barely breathe. It was like a steel band was being tightened around his chest. He just couldn't stop staring at her eyes, which were wide open even in death. Thade's presence suddenly vanished, but it didn't penetrate, neither did the sudden sounds of Karen vomiting just outside the room. He suddenly found himself clutching Mandy's body against him, rocking slowly back and forth. The squeezing feeling in his chest only seemed to grow tighter, and still he couldn't think. He couldn't have said how much time passed before Karen suddenly stumbled up and knelt beside him, wiping her mouth with the back of one hand, anguish in her eyes. He didn't even really notice her until she reached out and started to pull Mandy away from him. Then he looked at her, stared, even as he let her draw Mandy's body out of his arms and into hers. She started crying as she held her little sister, and that was when pain suddenly rose up in him, and thought came back. But he no longer wanted to punch anything, no longer wanted to rip into anything. It was like all the life had been taken out of him. All the fight. He just sat there, staring at them, drowning in the pain that felt ready to consume him. Over the next couple minutes he just sat, unable to look away. A couple times Karen's tears started to slow, but each time she took one look at Mandy's body and just broke into sobs again. He could feel tears of his own building behind his eyes, but he couldn't shed them, not yet. Because something had occured to him. "We have to get out of here, now." He whispered, taking one last look at Mandy's body even though it hurt like hell before grabbing Karen by the shoulders and trying to pull her away. She just made a wordless noise of grief and seemed to hold onto her sister's body even harder. "Karen, if he was willing to kill this many of us off at once, it must be because he's almost ready to take what he wants. It means he no longer had any use for them, or for any of the rest of us who can't give him what he wants." Seth told her, not having time to explain everything Shawn had told him. "If we don't get someplace safe, he could come back any minute to kill one or both of us." He didn't mention the fact that he didn't know of any place safe, the only hope he could come up with at the moment was for them to head over to Shawn's and pray that he'd managed to come up with something. The possibility of Shawn killing them to keep Thade away didn't matter much anymore. If they didn't get help soon Thade was going to kill them all anyways, he'd shown that much. "We have to go now. Please." He said as he once more tried to pull his sister backwards, a bit more firmly this time. Slowly she let Mandy's body slide from between her arms, tears still rolling down her cheeks. Grabbing firm hold of her, Seth guided her out of the room as quickly as he could, though they had to sidestep around a pool of her vomit before starting down the steps. "We have to call Julian. He needs to go with us, we can pick him up on the way." Seth said as they neared the bottom. "Wait..." Karen suddenly managed in a choked voice, grabbing his arm with one hand. "While... While he was still controlling me, Thade made me call Julian, just after you and Mandy left.. He should already be on his way over.. In fact, he should be here by now..." She said, the last bit spoken in a near-whisper. They looked at each other for a few seconds, then they heard it. A sudden very loud crash accompanied by the sound of splintering metal. Almost as if in answer to their words. "Julian." Seth said softly, before bursting into motion. He'd only gotten a couple steps toward the door though when Thade struck. This time Seth could feel Thade's fingers in his head, unlike the times before, and it was like five thin icepicks being driven straight into his brain. The next thing he knew he was on the ground. He could hear himself screaming, but he wasn't conciously aware of doing it. He could see Karen writhing on the floor not far from him. The feelings in his head, it was a sensation beyond pain. Like having a dentist's drill slowly working it's way into his skull. He could feel his body jerking, and his mind couldn't seem to focus on anything but the sensation in his head. The feeling went on and on for what seemed like an eternity, but was probably only thirty seconds, maybe even less. Finally it was just suddenly gone, leaving him collapsed on the floor, gasping. It actually took him a little while before he could manage to start climbing to his feet. While the fingers were gone from his mind, there was a lingering sort of phantom after-feel, like the feeling had been so weird that he couldn't entirely get rid of it. "What the hell was that?" Karen asked in an unsteady tone. He would've said Thade had been trying for a real possession, except that he wasn't possessed, and it had happened to Karen to. He couldn't really think of any other explanation for it. All of a sudden the world around him seemed to take on a very faint grey tinge. It was like he could see it and he couldn't see it, like it was faintly outlining the world, but was only visible on the very border of his vision and he had to strive to pinpoint what it was. He was just starting to try and figure out why he was seeing it when the front door opened. Julian stepped in, wearing a worried look. With the tiniest smile of relief, Karen suddenly moved to hug the boy. Seth felt it just as the boy smiled back at Karen. Thade. It was radiating more strongly from Julian's body then he'd ever felt it. He'd just opened his mouth to shout a warning to her, when the boy suddenly moved. The motion was too fast for Seth to catch but what he did see was Julian's, or should he now say Thade's, fist suddenly erupting out of his sister's back. It was covered in her blood. Thade lifted his arm, and his sister was lifted with it, impaled on the forearm itself. Her eyes were wide and her mouth was open, but no words escaped her, just these horrible sounds that rocked Seth to the core. As an indescribable surge of rage built inside him, Seth just ran at him. He didn't care if he died, anymore. As soon as he started to move Thade's head shifted towards him, and the boy suddenly flung his arm to the side in an incredibly quick motion. Karen's body went flying into a nearby wall, so hard that she actually crashed through and out the other side, leaving a hole in the wall. Seth knew deep down that it had to have taken a hell of a lot of force to drive Karen's body so cleanly through that hard a surface, and the force of the impact alone probably would've been enough to kill her. But this only made his rage burn all the hotter. As he charged the last couple steps Thade simply stood there, watching him. He started to swing his fist towards the boy's head, as hard as he could, but once more Thade moved. This time, like the first, it was too fast for him to follow. One second his fist was halfway to making contact, the next he was flying through the air, passing through a doorway to crash to the ground halfway across the living room adjacent to the entrance. He could see Thade through the doorway, still standing in the entrance, but then in the next second the boy was suddenly beside him, staring down at him. Seth started to get back up to strike at him again when he suddenly felt... Something wrapping around his arms and legs, holding him down. Quickly glancing from side to side, Seth was astonished to discover what looked like.. Shadows, clearly extending themselves from the ground to grip his limbs in place, and they felt quite tangible. He tried pulling with all his might, but the shadowy appendages held him firmly to the ground, as hard and unbending as steel. Slowly Thade dropped to one knee beside him, looking down at his face. There wasn't much light, but Seth could still see something that shocked him. Before Thade possessed him Julian's eyes had always been a dark color. Dark brown maybe, Seth had never really studied them closely enough to be sure. Now though, they had become blue. A deep, clear blue. And Seth was almost certain that it wasn't the result of contacts. "I've finally done it Seth. I have what I want." Thade breathed the words down at him. "Go to hell." Seth spat the words in as venomous a tone as he could manage. He was no longer trying to struggle against the shadows, he'd realized there was no point, but his rage hadn't lessened any. "Afraid I can't do that. There are much bigger things in store for me, Seth. Much bigger. And much bigger things for you as well. You're going to serve me, Seth. The forming of the touch in you showed all the potential I needed to see. In only a short period of time I can make you a freak in truth. Just being around me long enough should be enough to deepen the touch in you. And once you're a freak, I can give you more power then you could ever have dreamed you might possess. I'll be able to amplify the power of any freak that serves me, but the link between us will allow me to magnify yours so much more so then the others. I'll be able to make you strong enough to serve as my right hand." Thade murmured softly. This was actually enough to draw a laught out of Seth, dire as his situation was at the moment. "I'd sooner die first, and you know it. It doesn't matter what you offer me. The moment you killed Mandy and Karen, you ensured that I would never serve you. Never." "You don't know how wrong you are." Thade told him, almost conversationally. "I knew you'd be resistant, Seth. But all I need is time. You see, through that link, I'll be able to replay your sister's deaths for you over and over again in your mind. With your feelings at seeing them die as fresh as if it were the first time all over again. And I'll do it again, and again, until you'll be the one begging to be sent to some kind of hell just to get away from it. "And physical pain... Well, you couldn't begin to imagine the kind of pain I can inflict with but the smallest brush of a fingertip against your skin, now. Though trust me, you'll soon know it all too well." At this point Thade paused, tilting his head in until his face was only a few inches away from Seth's. "I'm going to break you, Seth." Thade told him calmly, coldly. "Physically, mentally, and emotionally. I'm going to break you over and over again until there's nothing left of you but the things I want there." Thade continued, his blue eyes carrying the same cold intensity he'd seen in the eyes of the boy in his dream days before. "And in time, I promise you.. I give you my word on it.. You will be mine. In body..." Thade told him, before once more he finally smiled. A cold smile. "And mind." END (And so ends the third and final part of the story. I'm going to take a short break before starting in on "Fear The Void Below" but I'm pretty sure I'll have the first part of it posted at a much quicker pace then the first part of this story was posted in relation to "The Cycle of Corruption", so hopefully you readers won't have to wait too long. The only question now is what I'll wind up writing after the third, fourth, and fifth stories are complete. But I have a few ideas in mind.
