First, let me say that this is a true story and that it happened when I was
15.  Here's how it happened:

    I grew up as the third child in a family of four children. My parents
divorced when I was 7 and most of the time we stayed with my mom.  I would
live with my dad in the summers when I was in high school because a lot of
my friends lived in his neighborhood, which was on the other side of the
