Epilogue
Arthur
had tremendous fun with Eloise and Mona. The TV special when he snuffed
them was regularly shown in programs of snuff highlights, even coming
third in a ‘top ten most imaginative uses of a kitchen implement’ show.
Alice’s
body was bought back at auction by her mother. She used it to put on
the display she’d secretly always wanted to, for the private enjoyment
of her husband.
Madeline, after a decade of having to watch
others perform on stage, became, the following year, the only person to
snuff on stage who wasn’t competing. She went out in a spectacular
finale act with the cheers of the audience ringing in her ears.
This
story is a fantasy, set in another place, with only the slightest
passing nod to our reality as it’s glimpsed on a distant horizon. If
this isn’t immediately apparent to you, I strongly suggest you seek
urgent psychiatric care.
